    I have a 3mm x 6mm posterocentral protrusion in the t6-t7 in thoracic spine,no sequestration or significant spinal cord damage, I had a CT scan, should I have a MRI to be sure, I was in so much pain, heaps of nerve pain, my left side is more effected, my whole left shoulder went stiff and had burning pain down left side of spine from shoulder down upper back is that normal for that area? I am having improvements but mainly a tight compression feeling in the area, I constantly feel it, I'm going on 3 months, how serious is a protrusion in that area? Can I live pain free one day? Can disc protrusions cause arthritis or other problems later in life?

    The other day when I was going for a kettlebell swing, I experienced what felt like a "slip" in my lower back. That's the best way I can described it. But I can't seem to find any other descriptions like that or any definitive explanation for such a phenomenon. Prior to this, for a couple of days, I was experiencing tinnitus and what I would describe as a stiffness that kept me slightly hunched over even when walking around. I thought I was just sore or had been sitting in a chair too long and was getting tight hip flexors. What are your thoughts, please?

    Great explanation! Is there a way to reignite the inflammatory cascade? I recently reaggrevated my disc, mri from 4 weeks ago showed a 7mm extrusion. I was making significant improvements, but now it is weak again, but the pain has subsided.

    • @DrJoshJagoda
      @DrJoshJagoda  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. You can re-ignite the cascade in many ways. Stress, food, loss of sleep, re-injury, etc. 7mm is a decent size so please take your time on the healing process and unfortunately, there are flare-ups. You can definitely stay active but plan on a good 12 weeks of consistent exercises that are geared towards rehab of this injury.

    Great video! A few questions if I may? I have 3 buldging discs at L3/L4/L5 but my MRI doesn't say Protrusion or Extrusion. Do you know why I don't see those words on the report? My daughter is in the hospital with 3 Protrusions in the lower spine. Same areas as me as a matter of fact. She says her hip and leg are numb and she was complaining of a lot of abdominal pain when she was admitted. Protruding Discs can cause abdominal pain? Why?
    Is her problem inherited from me?
    Last question please. I also have Severe Spinal Stenosis at L5/S1, Bilateral Pars Defect at L5/S1, and Grade 2 Spondylolisthesis. What type of surgery would be done to correct all that? Wouldn't this be considered an emergency surgery? I also had an ACDC Double Cervical Fusion in May 2019, for Cervical Myelopathy. I wear a back brace and now a wrist brace. :(
    Thank You in advance for your answers.

    • @DrJoshJagoda
      @DrJoshJagoda  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It may just be terminology that was not used on from the MRI report. This is not usually an inherited or genetic problem as far as I understand. Protruding discs can cause referral pain and the hips/psoas may have some pain that can feel like abdominal pain. I would seek further internal medicine for the abdominal pain.

    I have a chiropractor and an orthopedic doctor. After analyzing my MRI, you'd think the answers and treatment options would be similar. However, they contradict each other. One says it's a mere tiny bulge and that heat, therapy, and a cortisone shot if needed would help. I was diagnosed with muscle spasms.
    The chiropractor says it's a full protrusion that I need to ice and incorporate back strengthening exercises.
    I'm a dancer and I can't dance or exercise at all without a tight waist band which limits my mobility.
    The injury happened in June or July so it's progressively worsened over the period of 4 months.
    Any tips and advice would help 💜
    (L5-S1 achey pain on left side and feels worse after experimental treatments such as lowering my lower body repeatedly while turning and others I'm not sure the name of. My lower spine is also rotated so the spinus process curves. Nothing seems to help all that much)
    Thank you and sorry for the novel haha

    Hey I have a L1-l2 8mm extrusion I’m only 27 n I am pretty active I run 21 miles a week 7 miles Friday through Sunday, chiropractor said my situation was serious that I’ll need surgery in the future I don’t feel anything crazy I had my moments with back pain but I always managed to handle it I’m only seeing this chiropractor due to my lawyer having me connect with him, should I be worried about my disc?

    • @DrJoshJagoda
      @DrJoshJagoda  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      8 mm is a fairly large extrusion but everyone responds differently to pain. I have a few patients right now... 1 with a 7mm and decent pain but can tolerate the exercise, and one with a 3mm and has a lot of pain.
      I would make sure you are doing a lot of rehab and strengthening first including lumbar traction, and hip traction. Personally, I am not a large fan of adjusting the spine with a lot of force, especially with this injury. I would be focused on your current rehab rather than "worried." I hope this helps a little.

    I have extrusion 6mm l5s1 , I wasn’t aware of that from the beginning as I used to suffer from lower back pain for years but 3 months ago I started to have muscle contractions in my right leg. Until I’ve done mri in January I found about disc extrusion and started physiotherapy . But today I took my steroid injection epidural and my interventional radiologist who gave me steroid told me that your disc might resolve by it’s own and I can give it a chance but I have to swim and keep doing physiotherapy . Unfortunately all other neurosurgeons told me it has been 3 months already and you should go for a surgery.Maybe I will wait for another 3 months on physiotherapy and see.

    • @DrJoshJagoda
      @DrJoshJagoda  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that. Good question! True stenosis is typically when the spinal canal is smaller due to bone growth. Things like arthritis but in the center of the "Tube." Extrusion on the other hand is when a disc ruptures out and can cause compression to the nerve. In time, many of the cells can eat away the extrusion and there can be reduced symptoms. In the mean time, you will need to try and do pain relief exercises and rehab. Make sure you look into our back pain guide as this can help!

    I have a question, Does the disc in the Extrusion condition after recovery get back the same as before? Will the disc loss of the nucleus be regenerated? or will the entire disc be flat? and if the circumstances that caused the herniation continued will cause more progressive issues such as disc degeneration or thinning the next time? Like, we only have one chance for our bodies to deal with this trauma, and the next time is going to be harder to deal with-ish?

    • @DrJoshJagoda
      @DrJoshJagoda  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question. Each person is different but we typically see some loss of heigh following the recovery. Just because you have this now, does not mean it will be harder to deal with other issues later but based on the info I know of, it can be.
