I wish they had a set booster box. draft box isn't worth it if you don't draft and those packs are curated for draft and not for opening those reprints. Collector boosters are more expensive than double master 2, so its a bit pricey. The set of cards included might be for everyone but the products are not quite there yet
This is what M30 should've been. Not trying to peddle expensive proxies to players with the appeal of being 'collectible" but instead a celebration of the complete history of magic at an affordable price to get into the hands of players. I wish that WotC can see the success of this product and combined with the community coming together into one voice, return to making a game first rather than a product.
Could you imagine if those worthless M30 proxies were just added art cards in this set. People would probably collect them and use them as, I don’t know, proxies. It would be cool to have a friendly game with like 16 moxes in a deck in between draft games. That would have be ridiculous and fun.
@@zeinerperez5812 I would agree fully, like if they added them as bonus cards that you could get in the token slot. Limit it to the more iconic ones of the M30 but imagine you draft and get a proxy time vault in the token slot. I would have been super happy and do it again.

Can you imagine if they did this exact set and they just change name to dominaria remastered magic 30th anniversary and never released the actual 30th anniversary thing. There would have been literally no drama, no hate, no mass Exodus, just genuine love from the community
I mean, most of the player base just whines because they act like they are being held at gunpoint to buy every single product that comes out. When you can literally just proxy everything on makeplayingcards and have custom art or whatever you want. I have an entire cube of proxies that cost me less than $150 with sleeves and inner sleeves and deck box included. I guess maybe $175 if you count the reusable draft pack containers. I have just as much fun with it as I would if it were all real cards. The players need to stop looking for reasons to be angry.

They get mad at expensive sets and the fact that FoW isn't a $5 card.. Then WOTC uses their whining as an excuse to decimate the market with constant reprints and high print runs.
The only way WotC could mess up this release is to have an abnormally low print run like they did with Time Spiral Remastered, and considering how much hype this product has right now, it would be absolutely insane of them to NOT print a ton of this set. That is definitely going to be what happens, no doubt in my mind.

Domineria Remastered should have gotten all the hype and focus that Magic 30th got, with WotC reaching out to everyone to promote it. This is the love letter to the game that we wanted.
Makes you wonder what happened for this to not be the centerpiece of the 30 year anniversary celebrations.... imagine them making this a year-long print run with drafts and sealed events going on multiple times over the year in all the big and small locations, LGSs, conventions and tournaments. It would have significantly upgraded what was one of the worst years for Magic...

There are a lot of stuff coming out from now until next fall that would have been great things to put under the 30th anniversary banner. Returning to magic's original plane, returning to magic's original story, a reprint set compiling some of the greatest sets of the past, a culmination of a storyline a decade in the making, and a new type of product never seen before, that will supposedly change a fundamental thing about both the game and the story, all while the story is fighting the most classic villains. So many things celebrating the game's past. And the one thing called the 30th anniversary is the single most hated product in the entire game.

The only reason MTG has a market for special treatments is because of the collector market.. and the only reason that has value is because "special" treatments aren't printed into the dirt. The bean counters at WOTC would love an excuse to sell our collections back to us.. and this is exactly the justification they'll use. Think before you write.
You missed that when you make a set that pulls from such a wide breadth of Magic's history, you are not making an awesome limited environment anymore, you're making an awesome Cube environment!
I just use custom proxies for my entire cube. I don't feel the need to do otherwise. If someone gets mad at me at a casual EDH game for playing a proxied Bloom Tender, I don't care.
@@Toringar There's just something cool about "my collection vs yours," especially when the table agrees on power level to avoid feeling like you lost because someone else paid to win. I don't make a fuss over proxies when I see them, but I do feel some degree of disappointment.
@@Toringar Everyone at my card shop is accepting of proxies and counterfeits. It's dependent on who you're playing the game with - some people are stingy because of how much money they've spent on MTG

I said it before on the magic subreddit and I'll say it again: This is an out-of-the-box MTGO vintage cube experience without the reserve list cards. I wish they would put out more "remastered" sets like this. I for one can't wait to draft this set. I bought two boxes to draft with friends.

These sets like time spiral remastered are so good for new players too. They get to experience a set they weren't around for in a more modern context, which can help parse old cards. Im really excited to draft with friends for a night full of comments like, "WHAT IS THIS CARD????" From players who started in like kaldheim
Yep, I'm prepared to feel very old next week, when I draft this with a bunch of college kids who were newborns when I was having fun with Onslaught block. It'll still be fun though.
I agree that this is a love letter to Magic players. I love this set, and this is reminiscent of Masters 25. This should have been the 30th anniversary set. WotC literally had a template for a successful anniversary edition, and they already had it designed. The fact that they threw the M30 nonsense at us, and then immediately turned around and rushed the spoilers for this set over two days is a clear indication of how out of touch WotC is with their customers.
This is the first box of Magic I've bought since high school, I think that should speak volumes as otherwise, I've only bought singles since, or for specifically playing standard draft events or prereleases whenever I can find time for it nowadays.
I am so pleasantly surprised by what the professor had to say about this set! I love commander, standard, and draft, and can see the value of these cards in each of those formats. I cannot wait to have fun with the Magic community in the greater Seattle area with this set!
My LGS is one of the oldest in the country, around 23 years. His order has been cut every time in the last few years. For dominaria remastered, not only was his order filled; his order allocation was doubled. Distributor stated stores aren’t purchasing it or stopped selling magic products. We’re in a for rough ride for magic. Impeccable video professor, I ordered six boxes.
Dont worry the other half will prob be in a secret lair soon to compliment the 5 they did already. Granted they will be overpriced in that but it might drive the regular versions down
I've been playing Magic since I was 11, that was in 1993. Unfortunately, the first "expensive" editions didn't really come out in Germany and as a child I wouldn't have known what the real value was in these sets. However, I grew up with the game. It has always fascinated me and after sometimes years of inactivity, I have always become an active player. This set looks so much like the Magic idea that's been forming in my head over the years just looking through it that I absolutely love it. Thanks for the positive video!
It does feel like a shame this is coming out as negativity towards MTG has risen to all time highs, our WPN sold out of DMU and almost every other set before incredibly quickly but have seen very slow orders of DMR. We're pricing it at $195 and Amazon is at $210...and we still noticed slower sales and people opting to pre-order from Amazon. This is so confusing. First CB fully printed outside of the US (better quality foils) stuffed full of staples like Force of Will, Vampiric Tutor, etc...and the demand is so weak. Hoping this is an isolated case with us and not representative of the MTG market as a whole (albeit prices seem to be dropping across the board)
Speaking completely anecdotally, the entire 30th debacle just made me go cold turkey on MTG spending for the time being. Which is a real shame, because this product actually looks pretty great, but I just can't justify buying more product after that series of events. At least not for awhile.
Amazon has pre orders at $180 right now, and I got my pre order back in august for $163 a piece. Given this is a fixed print run, I will admit I bought it as an investment :)
I started playing about 10 years ago, and was taught by players with pavement-scratched power nine and Elder Dragon Highlander decks. I'd see all the hits from this set within arms reach but beyond my means at the time. Now I finally get the chance to experience these classics for myself as I live next to a WPN Premium store and will be drafting this set tomorrow. To me, this is what a celebration of magic looks like. This is a real 30th anniversary gift. I hope as many players as possible, new and old, get a chance to play with this set.
I completely agree with you Prof. Unfortunately, the love letter was written after the siege on LGSs. hopefully this is a steppingstone for wizards to heal the relations with us players and the LGS experience. I'm all about holding individuals accountable through the lens of humanity and I think you are to ;) love ya Prof! You are always using your expertise for good and giving a voice to those who don't.
I'll be real, I just assumed this was going to be a release exactly like TSR so I never looked further into it. Hearing that the price per pack (when buying a box) is a super reasonable ~$5 makes me much more excited for it. I may buy a box or draft for the first time in a long time!

This definitely feels like the set that M30 should have been. And scrolling through the comments, this opinion seems to be shared. I hope the two releases send very clear messages to WotC about the kinds of products the community wants.
If they would print stuff like this like twice a year, it would be a hell of a lot more affordable to both draft and just buy singles. I like the cardpool because it offers very nice reprints for multiple formats and added again, it can be drafted with. My one and only issue so far is the price since it does not add any new cards or mechanics. To me it feels like wotc upped the price because they simply see big dollar signs at a lot of the single cards. There is less design involved apart from new art than a regular set. I do hope there will at least be plenty of supply.
It always amazes me that when they came out we thought they were garbage as they were only one use. I got so many added in to trades as chaff to try and sweeten the pot.

Absolutely elated to hear about all the good things regarding this set. Lots of cards I want, but I'm tight on money. Might just grab a box to draft and trade for whatever else I need.
My only problem with the set is the Mythics. A large amount of the desired cards are at Mythic rarity. Sure, buying a box is cheaper than a Master's set, but still you only get 3-5 of the mythic cards in it. Hopefully it will be printed enough to make the price stay low, and availability to remain, so pulling the cards will be possible. :/
Glad that you're happy, Professor. Unfortunately, as cool as this set looks, I won't be buying it (nor any MTG product) until Wizards/Hasbro has demonstrated that it actually cares about both the game and the players. Sure, this is a good start, but I'm still feeling the huge slap in the face that was Magic 30 and I refuse to slip into the 'Cycle of Abuse' again.
As an on/off player since 2003 when I was like 9 years old I hadn't even looked at the setlist because burnout - but I'm now keener than I have been for a set release solely based on your enthusiasm/excitement for the nostalgia, value, and shared experience of sets that I feel has been missing in recent years. Cheers prof; it's refreshing to see a glimpse of that energy of old set releases once again. :)
To bad wizards did so much bad before this. They pissed off so many people and then banned them from different social media for calling them greedy. Sadly it's going to take a lot more than just this set to get players back.

As someone who is in an on-and-off relationship with MTG the last couple of years I can safety say that new interesting sets will attract me more even if they have no value. And after the 30th debacle, if they want to bring people back a set fully made from reprints won't cut it. Although it does seem very enticing for people who didn't quit. But, I suspect the value of all MTG cards is going to flop in the near 3~ months. When the market will fully feel how many players have stopped paying for overpriced cardboard

Alas, this is a love letter that’s coming way too late for me. I stopped playing a while ago, tired - disgusted? - with the state of the game, and this is not going to bring me back in. I hesitate to say I’m done with Magic forever, after all, I have paused many times before. But this time around, I don’t have that small voice nagging me that this is my favorite game. Dominaria Remastered might be a great set, but I’d say it hardly makes up for the mess of these past two years. I wish to those who will buy it a great experience, but I can’t get myself to care.
Having played both DMR draft and sealed, I can confirm it is an phenomenal draft experience and a masterfully designed set. My commander decks are full of good stuff from those limited events.

Bought 4 packs- didnt get exactly what i wanted but definitely got some cool pulls. 75$ markup on draft box at my lgs, (250$) bad but not unexpected. I choose not to engage with a product at this price for a sealed crack-a-pack experience however i dont mind buying a few packs here and there. I will pick up a few more, not concerned with value so much as i am with playability in formats i enjoy casually. Old borders are beautiful. New art is always welcome. Again, Thank you for not making a basher video.

I could have listened to this for another 20 mins! I was able to get a box from a friend at a good price. We will have a little home brewed constructed game. I love to make memories with a set, and i save a few packs from it. Someday, I'll crack some memories. 😊
Just got back from a draft of this at my LGS and I had an awesome time!! I didn't open any of the crazy mythic reprints but I did get Pashalik Mons and got to storm out with goblins and Grapeshots. I usually don't go for the remastered sets but I might just have to do this one again!

I remember back when the set was announced and Force of Will was shown in the first preview, I just started laughing and told my friend I wasn’t even bothering to get excited about it. There was zero doubt in my mind that I would be completely priced out of getting to experience this set. So glad to be proven wrong.
This set is incredible!. A real 30 th aniversary gift. Foreign languaje players/collectors are happy by the oportunity to acces to Master like powered cards,this time yes, in Spanish for example. Very grateful to Wizards for keeping players from other places in mind.

I've been so disconnected from MTG lately due to product overload that I had no idea that this wasn't literally the Dominaria set Remastered.
I said it before on the magic subreddit and I'll say it again: This is an out-of-the-box MTGO vintage cube experience without the reserve list cards. I wish they would put out more "remastered" sets like this. I for one can't wait to draft this set. I bought two boxes to draft with friends.
Or you can just proxy a vintage cube and put whatever reserved list cards you want in it.
The power isn't Vintage Cube level, but the nostalgia factor of seeing old familiar cards is very nice.

These sets like time spiral remastered are so good for new players too. They get to experience a set they weren't around for in a more modern context, which can help parse old cards. Im really excited to draft with friends for a night full of comments like, "WHAT IS THIS CARD????" From players who started in like kaldheim
Yep, I'm prepared to feel very old next week, when I draft this with a bunch of college kids who were newborns when I was having fun with Onslaught block. It'll still be fun though.

I agree that this is a love letter to Magic players. I love this set, and this is reminiscent of Masters 25. This should have been the 30th anniversary set. WotC literally had a template for a successful anniversary edition, and they already had it designed. The fact that they threw the M30 nonsense at us, and then immediately turned around and rushed the spoilers for this set over two days is a clear indication of how out of touch WotC is with their customers.

This is the first box of Magic I've bought since high school, I think that should speak volumes as otherwise, I've only bought singles since, or for specifically playing standard draft events or prereleases whenever I can find time for it nowadays.

I am so pleasantly surprised by what the professor had to say about this set! I love commander, standard, and draft, and can see the value of these cards in each of those formats. I cannot wait to have fun with the Magic community in the greater Seattle area with this set!

My LGS is one of the oldest in the country, around 23 years.
His order has been cut every time in the last few years.
For dominaria remastered, not only was his order filled; his order allocation was doubled.
Distributor stated stores aren’t purchasing it or stopped selling magic products.
We’re in a for rough ride for magic.

I've been playing Magic since I was 11, that was in 1993. Unfortunately, the first "expensive" editions didn't really come out in Germany and as a child I wouldn't have known what the real value was in these sets. However, I grew up with the game. It has always fascinated me and after sometimes years of inactivity, I have always become an active player.
This set looks so much like the Magic idea that's been forming in my head over the years just looking through it that I absolutely love it.

It does feel like a shame this is coming out as negativity towards MTG has risen to all time highs, our WPN sold out of DMU and almost every other set before incredibly quickly but have seen very slow orders of DMR. We're pricing it at $195 and Amazon is at $210...and we still noticed slower sales and people opting to pre-order from Amazon. This is so confusing.
First CB fully printed outside of the US (better quality foils) stuffed full of staples like Force of Will, Vampiric Tutor, etc...and the demand is so weak. Hoping this is an isolated case with us and not representative of the MTG market as a whole (albeit prices seem to be dropping across the board)
Speaking completely anecdotally, the entire 30th debacle just made me go cold turkey on MTG spending for the time being. Which is a real shame, because this product actually looks pretty great, but I just can't justify buying more product after that series of events. At least not for awhile.
Amazon has pre orders at $180 right now, and I got my pre order back in august for $163 a piece. Given this is a fixed print run, I will admit I bought it as an investment :)
Backlash from 30th. I don't think its anecdotal. Before this video I had no interest in buying into this set. Now I'm genuinely excited to draft it.

I started playing about 10 years ago, and was taught by players with pavement-scratched power nine and Elder Dragon Highlander decks.
I'd see all the hits from this set within arms reach but beyond my means at the time. Now I finally get the chance to experience these classics for myself as I live next to a WPN Premium store and will be drafting this set tomorrow.
To me, this is what a celebration of magic looks like. This is a real 30th anniversary gift. I hope as many players as possible, new and old, get a chance to play with this set.

I completely agree with you Prof. Unfortunately, the love letter was written after the siege on LGSs. hopefully this is a steppingstone for wizards to heal the relations with us players and the LGS experience. I'm all about holding individuals accountable through the lens of humanity and I think you are to ;) love ya Prof! You are always using your expertise for good and giving a voice to those who don't.
I'll be real, I just assumed this was going to be a release exactly like TSR so I never looked further into it. Hearing that the price per pack (when buying a box) is a super reasonable ~$5 makes me much more excited for it. I may buy a box or draft for the first time in a long time!

This definitely feels like the set that M30 should have been. And scrolling through the comments, this opinion seems to be shared. I hope the two releases send very clear messages to WotC about the kinds of products the community wants.

If they would print stuff like this like twice a year, it would be a hell of a lot more affordable to both draft and just buy singles.
I like the cardpool because it offers very nice reprints for multiple formats and added again, it can be drafted with.
My one and only issue so far is the price since it does not add any new cards or mechanics. To me it feels like wotc upped the price because they simply see big dollar signs at a lot of the single cards. There is less design involved apart from new art than a regular set. I do hope there will at least be plenty of supply.

It always amazes me that when they came out we thought they were garbage as they were only one use. I got so many added in to trades as chaff to try and sweeten the pot.

If you want a card then order proxies off of makeplayingcards. They are like .50 a card and you can make them completely custom.

My only problem with the set is the Mythics. A large amount of the desired cards are at Mythic rarity. Sure, buying a box is cheaper than a Master's set, but still you only get 3-5 of the mythic cards in it. Hopefully it will be printed enough to make the price stay low, and availability to remain, so pulling the cards will be possible. :/

If I had a local game store to play at or an active friends group to play with, this would be THE set to play!
Glad that you're happy, Professor. Unfortunately, as cool as this set looks, I won't be buying it (nor any MTG product) until Wizards/Hasbro has demonstrated that it actually cares about both the game and the players. Sure, this is a good start, but I'm still feeling the huge slap in the face that was Magic 30 and I refuse to slip into the 'Cycle of Abuse' again.
As an on/off player since 2003 when I was like 9 years old I hadn't even looked at the setlist because burnout - but I'm now keener than I have been for a set release solely based on your enthusiasm/excitement for the nostalgia, value, and shared experience of sets that I feel has been missing in recent years.

To bad wizards did so much bad before this. They pissed off so many people and then banned them from different social media for calling them greedy. Sadly it's going to take a lot more than just this set to get players back.

As someone who is in an on-and-off relationship with MTG the last couple of years I can safety say that new interesting sets will attract me more even if they have no value.
And after the 30th debacle, if they want to bring people back a set fully made from reprints won't cut it.
Although it does seem very enticing for people who didn't quit.
But, I suspect the value of all MTG cards is going to flop in the near 3~ months.

Alas, this is a love letter that’s coming way too late for me. I stopped playing a while ago, tired - disgusted? - with the state of the game, and this is not going to bring me back in. I hesitate to say I’m done with Magic forever, after all, I have paused many times before. But this time around, I don’t have that small voice nagging me that this is my favorite game.
Dominaria Remastered might be a great set, but I’d say it hardly makes up for the mess of these past two years. I wish to those who will buy it a great experience, but I can’t get myself to care.
As a new player that started magic one week back, it sounds like doom & gloom with videos from last year. Glad that it looks good going forward.
Having played both DMR draft and sealed, I can confirm it is an phenomenal draft experience and a masterfully designed set. My commander decks are full of good stuff from those limited events.

Thank you for the positivity. I played a prerelease draft and it was fun. Bought 4 packs- didnt get exactly what i wanted but definitely got some cool pulls. 75$ markup on draft box at my lgs, (250$) bad but not unexpected. I choose not to engage with a product at this price for a sealed crack-a-pack experience however i dont mind buying a few packs here and there.
I will pick up a few more, not concerned with value so much as i am with playability in formats i enjoy casually.

I 100% agree with this and so glad to see a set that makes the Prof happy! Watched some of the openings on this set. Great looking cards, and the packs have hit after hit. This will be the 1st set I will buy sealed for draft since Kamigawa. I know I can't be the only one...

Just got back from a draft of this at my LGS and I had an awesome time!! I didn't open any of the crazy mythic reprints but I did get Pashalik Mons and got to storm out with goblins and Grapeshots. I usually don't go for the remastered sets but I might just have to do this one again!
7:32 I've won many games with Commet Storm in my mono-red Daretti commander deck. And when it's not a win-con, it's a decent versatile kill spell.
This seems like an exciting set. I already pre-ordered boxes from my LGS, and I plan to open them on camera and keep everything that I pull.

I remember back when the set was announced and Force of Will was shown in the first preview, I just started laughing and told my friend I wasn’t even bothering to get excited about it. This set is incredible!. A real 30 th aniversary gift. Foreign languaje players/collectors are happy by the oportunity to acces to Master like powered cards,this time yes, in Spanish for example. Very grateful to Wizards for keeping players from other places in mind.
