    Thank you.
    My chuck was not coming off, so I chucked up a small impact wrench, put it on reverse, pulled the trigger and the chuck was off.

    You forgot to mention that the Allen screw is reverse thread. Therefore you have to turn it clockwise to loosen it.

    This worked for me... thank you I didn't want to throw out the old drill motor. They don't make them like they used to. It took just two wacks to the Allen wrench with a hammer.

    Thank you for explaining this.
    Just to be sure, does 'Return that screw to the center'
    mean that you tighten the chuck on the allen wrench, and give it a sharp whack in the opposite direction?

    • @bricago2302

      Derek Hodges, I’m referring to the part where you tighten the chuck around the Allen wrench, then whack it with a mallet. I wasn’t paying attention and had chucked up the long end of the wrench, leaving the short end as a small target and not much leverage.

    • @frazzledgrey
      @frazzledgrey 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most of the Milwaukee Drills have a Hexagonal shaft between the case and the Chuck! You should be able to use (maybe adapt by Filing) a Bicycle Wheel Bearing Cone Wrench to hold the output shaft while you drive off the Chuck! If the Chuck is crap, use a Big Vise grips or a Pipe wrench should aggressively grip the old Chuck!

    Your removing a chuck that still is operational. How about doing one that’s non operational then add in a striped Allen head center bolt! Why because usually people don’t need to remove perfectly good chucks that are operational, like yours are. I’m in the repair business and know your just acting out something you’ve see done! In the real world of repair the work is never staged and what comes in for repair is far from your little act.

    He didn't do counterclockwise to remove the screw, that is critical step. Wasting time to watch it

      The center screw is reverse thread so you turn it clockwise to remove. He only went counter clockwise to get the allen wrench to drop into the screw head and then he turned it clockwise to remove it! (0:33)

  • @muhash50
    @muhash50 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not very intelligent. You never told us to reverse turn the small screw in the center. And your hand covered the view many times. Or put wd40 to loosen the chuck.

  • @frazzledgrey
    @frazzledgrey 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I found this lacking in details! You Talked about locating a alen Screw inside the chuck, but you didn't say anything about which direction to turn the screw for removal! From what I can see in the Video, the alen screw was already loose, and then when you went to remove the screw, turning it in the typical direction to remove the screw, you tightened it. Then it seems to me that you loosened the center screw 'clockwise' to remove it!? Yes? You then Clamped the large alen key into the chuck, and then hit it with a ? Hammer/Mallet? Making a 'How To' Video is all about Details!!
    At least you did do some Talking! Many people don't talk!! And try to get away with various types of music! That's an automatic Thumbs down! DETAILS! My questions: Was the screw in with Lock-Tight? What Kind of Wrench/Key ( Perhaps a imperial 3/16 Alen Key?) The direction to remove the Screw is a Really good Detail! Another good detail is while the Chuck is off, that's a perfect Time to open the gear-box and update the grease! Usually by the time the chuck is worn out, the grease has turned into a Wax like substance which has been completely whipped off into the furthest crevices of the inner housing! Time for new Lube, after a good wash in Solvent! D

      The center locking screw is reverse thread, turn clockwise to remove.
