    Shout-out to Nelson for his honesty and modesty. With his altered health and 3 little kids at home, Nelson can still teach us for free with very clear explanation even after a remarkable blunder. Hopefully this channel would get gold play button in the next couple of years

      Exactly my thoughts, Nelson, You're a star, in sooo many ways, not the least pleasant and mild mannered, many of the other chesstubers are definitely brilliant as well, but I can't sit and enjoy more than one or two videos, then I'm up to over both ears with their form-factor, whereas I think my record with You are something like 5 hours, and still not tired of listening and learning, just have to go to bed or something....

    Even with losing the rook you managed to pull off a good comeback and not get discouraged. You even managed to make your own mistake it into a teaching lesson. That shows that you're more focused on improving in the game for yourself and helping others To me that you don't have an inflated ego Nelson you have my upmost respect! I continue to learn a lot from you. Well done!

  • @mrjoe5292
    @mrjoe5292 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    What can we learn from this game? Don't make blunders.
    And don't give up just because you're down material.
    Like you said, happens to all of us. I nearly beat Stockfish level 6 on lichess earlier but got too excited about a passed pawn and missed an obvious move that lead to a draw.

    How to lose?
    1) gambit ALL your pawns and head for an endgame.
    2) fall victim to the Scholar’s Mate.
    3) don’t develop your pieces; just keep moving one of your knights back-and-forth.
    4) start a timed game, then go make dinner. 😆
    5) pretend to be the Martin bot, and just make bad moves.

    The interesting thing about this position is that Stockfish actually still gives only a ~0.5 advantage to black after blundering the rook, which means it's most likely a drawn position with perfect play.
    After the next moves, with the black king to d6, it's an even position, and after black plays king to e5, white is winning, despite still being down a rook if they play Re1+.

  • @TheMg49

    Always instructive to watch your games and listen to your running commentary. Most games I lose are because of blunders, sometimes in clearly winning positions. Your rating and regular playing strength is master level. My regular playing strength is a few hundred points below that. So, even though you might play too fast and miss something once in a while, I'm learning a lot from your videos. Thanks. Thumbs up. Subscribed.

    Plot twist: it was a sacrifice for checkmate in 40

  • @stevek2340
    @stevek2340 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, I know the feeling of losing a major piece and wondering if I should continue. Recently, I let my opponent knight-fork my king and queen. But, decided to play on. Long story short, I ended up invading their 2nd rank with both rooks, and kept checking his kings. Eventually, he moved his king to the A-file, which allowed me to X-ray attack his king/queen. (I must admit I was initially unaware of that blunder.) At that point I was very short on time and figured they'd try to prolong the game, but resigned instead. (For the record, my ELO is only 826.)
    Nelson, kudos to you for your your self-critique and for continuing to play and gutting out the win. I hope your health continues to improve!

      i tried to play risky by intentionally blundering my rook. it helped get my knight to the middle of the board and eventually forking the king, queen and the rook. After that, the opponent blundered the rook XD

    At 3:14, seems Qc4+ followed by Qxc7 [which is again a check if the King doesn't move on the previous turn] wins you another pawn and creates an isolated pawn for black on the d file, future target.
