Its what you make of it. You dont have to pick the very easiest way up the clough like you did, you can take the more challenging lines. I enjoy it everytime I go up there. Yes it may not be hard but its still fun and you can certainly enjoy some scrambling if you follow the river bed

@@jameslincoln1 Thanks for your comment James, i do agree with you mate (partially). It is clearly visible i am following river bed and the only reason i am using hands (few places only) is because of wet and slimy slabs. The only two places that “may” require hands is waterfall area (not the way i chose) and the chimney (rated grade 2). Come on James , i am sure u know where i am coming from. I know plenty of hill walkers will enjoy this trail but when i ve read description about it i was expecting 1-2 graded scrambling. This route has nothing to do with scrambling (apart from 1 place, ok - possibly 2). How can u compare it to other trails rated same grade 2 such as Pinnacle Ridge (just an example mate)? What about Crib Goch grade 1 or The Knife Edge on Blencathra, grade 1. Crowden Clough is a walk across the park mate and even though beautiful scenery is should not be misled for a scrambling trail. This is my humble opinion only because my expectations were much higher due to obvious route description.

@noexpirydate5208 I understand your point, seen as the peak has no mountains, unfortunately there is nothing that compares to the Welsh routes. However Crowden is the mildest of them all. Saying that I take visiting freinds up there for the first taste of scrambling, especially if they are scared of heights and exposure. And when I do I make it interesting for myself, but to do that you have to get wet and go direct up pretty much all the water. Particularly at the short section. Loads more fun if you go direct up the waterfall. These routes are also more fun/challenging in worse conditions. Try wild boar clough the day after heavy rain. Completely different prospect to doing it bone dry. But unfortunately if your after exposure it just isn't there to be had on scrambling routes in the peak

Stanage edge is a great place for a long walk with a mild challenge or two, or to practice rope skills. You looked disappointed 😂
The music reminds me of the PC game Unreal 1. Good times 😎

Ha ha ha you know me well (i was very disappointed mate). I was hoping for continuous scrambling (1-2) from the beginning (pretty much) - similar to Tryfan, Crib Goch, Striding Edge, etc. I love being outdoors and happy to "tick another box" but this was boring as hell (this was a dog walk route). Stanage wall you refer to (different climbing spots) is a fantastic training facility to practice rope work, climbing skills, etc ( i ve been there before) so from climbing perspective - nothing to regret. Having said that - no more Crowden Clough for me. Thanks for the comment.

@@noexpirydate5208 The trouble is the hills/cloughs in the Peak are just not high enough to give more than a few metres scrambling. Having said that, I will probably do this one this weekend. Every time I've been up before I've gone up the steep left side path just for alpine training so gaining as much height as I can in 1 day carrying a pack. I usually do a double loop i.e. up & down Kinder twice, there are quite a few choices.

@@duncanbeard9460 hello mate, fully agree. Even though I knew few climbing spots in Peaks from my previous visits I was wondering what grade 2 or 1 looks like over there- knowing there are just hills in the area. Excluding climbing walls along 5 km Stanage Wall … I was expecting continuous scrambling features on this trail (more, less) according to its grade. Clearly this is not possible over there. Anyway, no matter if this trail met expectations or not I still enjoyed being out , doing something new and ticking another box. Lesson learnt.
