    We are continuing to fill the cardboard dollhouse with furniture! Today let's focus on the bedroom ;) A bed, a vanity and a rug with free patterns below in the description! Thank you Paula for creating the digital versions of the patterns!!!

    Love the quirkiness of your designs. I worry about using recyclable plastic though, it disintegrates and shatters. It has been my experience to find shares of it in the bottom of my crafting drawers!

      I think it might be OK once it's made into something. They mostly degrade due to exposure to light, or if they are composted. Sealed inside a fabric cover, or well coated in paint, they should keep OK.

      Bentley House Minis , buy plastic that is archival quality. I bought some from a scrapbooking store that was for running through a printer. One piece actually has a design on it but is quite thick for miniatures. Look for glue that comes in a green and white bottle. Archival and very strong. Yes always look for material which is archival.

      @@BentleyHouseMinis I'm putting this comment here because I want you to see it. About those pineapples, if they are pineapples, that is a symbol of hospitality. However, something I learned rather recently, is that an upside down pineapple is some kind of sign of a swinger, like a way of advertising to others of similar persuasion. How are we all supposed to know these things, honestly??
      I wonder if you could use mosquito netting for the drapes and plain sheers and lace curtains? Seems like it's less stiff than other laces. My daughter used to have a netting over her bed, but it was hung from the ceiling and had a sort of a hoop that it spread out from.

    Omg! This is changing my life! Joint compound and glue.....wow. I am so into this cardboard recycle concept. The plastic bags are awesome, I used some white ones to make sheer like curtains in the bathroom. They also make pretty believable shower curtains! I have used quilted paper towels for pill and mattress covers. Mod Pog (?) helps it keep its shape . Looks a lot more comfortable than it is lol, but it works and looks like quilted fabric. You are an inspiration,

    Fabrics for miniature work: I hoard used fabric in solids and small prints, etc. because used fabric is usually slightly worn and much softer, thus it is easier to drape, etc. Silk neck ties are great for curtains/drapes - usually small patterns and the fabric is cut on the bias so it drapes and gathers wonderfully. Blanket binding and light-weight, wide ribbon are great - no need to hem the sides if the width is right. I have also hoarded the linings from old handbags and clothing, lace trimmings, braid and embroidery from used items and so much more..........................
    PS for a mattress that will not be dressed, old jersey knit fabric (t-shirt) works nicely because it will stretch, etc.

    The pasta box gave me such an idea! I would love to see you use tiny pasta shapes in your magical house somehow. The bow ties seem appropriate, but also orzo or little rice shapes could be good. Maybe lentils? I would especially love to see alphabet noodles used to make a saying wafting across a wall or something. They would look so amazing with your drybrushing techniques to highlight them!

    These pieces of furniture are wonderful. I really like the contrast of the gold embellishments with the brown "wood" furniture. The gold helps coordinate the fabrics you used into the color scheme. One little tip I learned from my husband--when making a mirror use a black paint pen/marker to go around the edge of the frame before putting it in place. This will help hide the edge of the mirror in the reflection. He learned this the hard way with his first medicine cabinet project. When it was finished, we could see the cut edge of the mirror in the reflection. I can't wait to see what you do next with this project!

    As promised here is a new video. I must say the cardboard dollhouse got lots of mileage, I wasn't sure when you started but this is actually lots of fun. I hope you enjoy making this as well or that would be a bummer. It seems like it though so good work as usual.
    I wondered about the rug at the start and I could have never guessed it was made from a plastic bag. I suspected when you started to use them for the project though. ;-) Now I forgot you made the inhabitant of the house, have to go back and watch that now.

    Ara, who would ever think that a plastic bag would make such a cute rug!!! Fabulous! I'm really loving this project because of all the recyclables that you are using. Sparks of creativity flying all over the place! (I do love all your projects too...I wouldn't want any of the others to feel left out! LOL!)

    Details.....an old fashioned hand held "brass" candle holder with a single waxy dripped candle, placed on the offset vanity on a tiny dresser top doily. Also, the bed curtains, the top of the 'crown' could have had a puffy topknot of lace, more crown like, as the point of these curtains is to keep bugs out, so not left open at the top, yeah? I like your plastic bag rag rug idea very much.

    11:23 Just FYI our H-E-B has a large metal bin for those type of bags to be recycled. It’s the only form of recycling we have here.

    This series is so much fun - and so creative ! You have such cool ideas for working with cardboard, I can’t wait to start my own project soon :) I think you could probably crochet with the plastic bag by cutting it into one long strand by kind of zig-zagging rather than cutting strips off, if that makes sense - I bet that could make for some cool wicker-looking objects with a bit of paint !!

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great idea with the cutting and crochet! I will have to see if I can convince my master-crocheter sister to make something!!
