As a semi-normal person on VRchat, I can say that almost all the normal people stay in private worlds so that we don't have to interact with weird people.
I am normal but I go to publics. I try to avoid weird people tho. I find it kinda sickening that furry worlds are more popular than Star wars or Minecraft.
I went to a public karaoke lobby today for the first time ever and i was super nervous and having stage fright but they were all super nice and comforting to me!!! shoutouts to those people, especially the like 5 people who perfectly sung a bruno mars song

The reason everything seems shit at first glance is because the devs added a feature called "Groups" which allow you to like, join private groups with friends or like-minded people who won't shout slurs or be 10 years old or both. It raises the bar for entry into like, the actually enjoyable experience VRChat is known for and makes it really hard for people to enjoy it like it used to be.

ToN has basically been my home on that game since it came out. And sometime I find cool people wandering organism, tho it’s been more quite. I need to find more popular publics. Before then on quest was the VRBall world because I got good and kids thought I cheated lol. Point is, yea only go to the black cat to people watch.
As a VRchat player, if you find a group of friends who all have VR before you play, and just don't interact with the people on the game. If you do go into public worlds, you have to find niche worlds that have like 5 or 10 people, and sometimes they're chill (not usually though)
One day I just hopped on for fun, and after 3 random servers that were, well, something else, I found one that actually had normal people just vibing. Turns out it was a group of friends who perfectly filled a lobby, and I had joined right after one of them had gotten off for the evening.
The issue with being new is that all of the normal people are in private lobbies, and you need to find one of them in a public, then join a group just to be able to get in.
I found going to small worlds with 5-10 people is best for me, while there is still some loud people, there are also sane people who want to have sane conversations. I recommend Emerald vally, or Grapple island.
You usually want to friend people who are normal when playing those games they usually have groups you can join or you want to stick with one group like I am

Hi VRChat player here For context, there is no context, you went to a hyper popular world and was met with the colorful people of today. If you want a twinge of normalcy, look for a small community to hangout with. I go with the hazbin hotel/Helluva boss groups myself but in order to fully enjoy VRC, you kinda have to embrace the chaos abit.

Hey there! Ever since groups were added, I’d highly recommend checking out some group instances which are moderated. Moderated group instances make it so that kids and trolls are a lot less likely and you get to hang out with actual cool people
As someone with +2000 hours or so on VRChat, most "normal" people, including me, choose to stay in private worlds with friends and such. Public lobbies are straight hell, and the only time I ever go to them is when I have absolutely no one to play with.
You meet the normal people who play it outside of VRC and then you hang out with them when they do play it, there’s also some pretty cool worlds to explore especially if you got PCVR
As one of the player's of VR chat, yeah its chaotic bullshit, just wait until you try the games on that shit, I'm a frequenter of a few games, but the murder mystery ones are the definition of trust no one, I've seen people who out their friends as the murderer, people play with their siblings and cheat their way to finding the murderer that way, some people use oversized avatars to peak other rooms, basically the most under handed tactics you can possibly use that would not be possible anywhere else
Go to places like Midnight Bar, Sunset Bar for moderated instances, Get Lost Forest for goofy, military esque stuff, or any Group instance. Groups usually have specific audiences that are easy to figure out.
I find some normal people in VR chat, you just need to be in the right worlds at the right time. The popular sword art online world called "Project Aincrad" is fun and has lots of cool people. Just don't play on Christmas because of babies getting VR headsets.
Basically if you start with one friend that has played or does play get on with them then meet friends through them and or go to multiple different worlds with them, makes the whole process a lot easier

The club scene is actually lit, I was able to get my friend group into one with a live dj set and it was genuinely insane
