It caught me right the hell off guard. I feel like this is in a similar vain to when Matt Rose’s community accidentally(?) got him to say yuri in a video as well.
Fandom has engineers who work specifically to improve the site's SEO (Search Engine Optimization), i.e. chqnge aspects of the site to make Google's indexing bots think that the site is superior and should be placed higher in searches. They've even made it so anonymous users can't access certain pages on wikis, because those pages looked "bad" to the Google bots. So, Fandom truly does care more about pageviews than the usability of the site, if that wasn't obvious already.
That and it is perfectly useable for most people just looking for some info on an item or skill. No need to seek out a different website because it might have better ui or less ads
on top of what everyone else is saying, they also directly copy from non-fandom wikis because google suppresses similar results and it'll suppress the less popular site (which is the non-fandom one) they really are scum
"Incoming links" "SEO" Both of those answers ignore the reality. Fandom makes money via Google AdSense. Google prioritises websites with Google Ads on them. This is not a new thing, it's been known for years. Additionally, Google tends to enter into agreements with informational websites to promote them to the top result, a good example of this is Google's relationship with Quora. It would not be a stretch to assume that Google and Fandom likely have one such arrangement as well.
this happened with the rain world fandom wiki before and fandom admins stepped in and replaced the Informative Jokes with outdated information and even some AI-generated text. Absolute ass of a website.
The thing is that vandalizing the fandom wiki CAN actually be a very good thing. Fandom doesn’t let you delete wikis or link to new ones, but I’ve seen at least one circumstance where we purposely ruined the old fandom one, and it got to the point where fandom deleted it themselves.
A big issue I feel stem from this is people not just vandalising the Minecraft Fandom Wiki but going and randomly fucking up _other_ Wikis that *don't have* non-Fandom equivalents
This has been happening with the Undertale Yellow wiki as well. I didn't know they had moved until i went back to a page i had recently edited and multiple paragraphs were replaced with like three words and a sad face. Entire new pages have been made for nonsense characters. Absolutely ridiculous lmaoo
i tried to check how to duplicate a smithing template and one of these goobers on the fandom wiki claimed it required a nether star, which i was a little confused about before i realized where i was
we need to stop completely vandalizing the entire page and instead make tiny edits that would be time consuming for the few remaining mods to fact check until the wiki is full of slightly wrong information
No, subtle misinformation is one of the worst forms of vandalism. I'd rather people put donkeys on pages and links to the Weird Gloop Minecraft Wiki, even swear words, than subtle misinformation. If you want to put a link to the Weird Gloop wiki, use "." instead of ".", as otherwise the link will be blocked by a spam filter. Now, I do not condone adding the link to pages to vandalise them. I wish to raise awareness of this workaround so that the link can be legitimately used in talk pages, user pages/profiles and the article Minecraft Wiki (website). I also see adding the link as a lesser evil compared to adding subtle misinformation to a page.
Every fandom that has migrated their wiki to a non-Fandom service always has that one phase where everyone just turns the Fandom wiki into a vandalised hellhole. It's happened with Calamity Mod already, and the effects are in equal parts ridiculous and something that could actually be in the game.
@@Dreamheart101 Probably because the old wiki is basically useless, so they just decide to have some fun with it. Also, they probably want to dissuade people from using Fandom so they make the old wiki look unappealing.
I think we will eventually see an influx of communities that don't do that because their fandom counterparts were essencially dead on arrival and too small and unorganized to even vandalize.(Like, the german Xenoblade fandom Wiki is sad. People are still actively editing for it, but barely any progress is being made and the frontpage looks like we were still in 2018. And it is actually one of the better looking ones of these "dead wikis", a lot have like 40 pages max.)
very sad... if I go to the fandom wiki but not from Google search it will not give them anything right? Will it even be a problem to them due to my adblocker making them get nothing?
as of rightnow things are still being vandalized the block of copper page says "rawr" as well as saying "can be mined only with a chainmail pickaxe or better. "
the best way to vandalize is to replace articles by "go see the new official community wiki" or something like that because it doesn't confuse people who don't know better
@@Dreamheart101 Genocide. Jokes aside, what they do is far worse. List of sins Game search engines to make them the top result, will force Fandom wikis to stay on Fandom if they attempt migration, have 9001 ads on every single page (many of which are intrusive), will change other people's wikis with no warning just to push an agenda or advertisement (see the McDonalds wiki Grimace incident) and overall be a disgrace to wikis and the internet as a whole.
@@olivercharles2930 the people who did the work now work on the new wiki and for the most part support the vandalism, fandom on the other hand shoves ads in the users face, edits pages with no prior warning (deleting user made content), does stupid shit like putting AI generated "facts" into their pages (that were blatantly wrong) and overall only cares about money

Donkey is a fictional character created by William Steig and adapted by DreamWorks Animation for the Shrek franchise. He is voiced primarily by Eddie Murphy. Donkey is an anthropomorphic donkey and his appearance is modeled after a miniature donkey named Perry.[1] He is depicted with grey fur, brown eyes, and a black mane. In the franchise, he is the sidekick and best friend of Shrek, husband to Dragon, and father to a litter of Dronkeys (Dragon-Donkeys). As the series' comic relief character, Donkey is well-regarded by critics for his wit, wisdom, and humor.

It caught me right the hell off guard. I feel like this is in a similar vain to when Matt Rose’s community accidentally(?) got him to say yuri in a video as well.

It's sad that search engines still seem to put fandom above official wikis
Why is that surprising? The fandom wiki has been the official wiki for a decade. It has tons of incoming links from reputable sites.
No need to seek out a different website because it might have better ui or less ads
on top of what everyone else is saying, they also directly copy from non-fandom wikis because google suppresses similar results and it'll suppress the less popular site (which is the non-fandom one)
they really are scum
"Incoming links"
"SEO"
Both of those answers ignore the reality.
The fandom wiki isn't a dumpster fire, it's a whole wildfire
The thing is that vandalizing the fandom wiki CAN actually be a very good thing. Fandom doesn’t let you delete wikis or link to new ones, but I’ve seen at least one circumstance where we purposely ruined the old fandom one, and it got to the point where fandom deleted it themselves.
A big issue I feel stem from this is people not just vandalising the Minecraft Fandom Wiki but going and randomly fucking up _other_ Wikis that *don't have* non-Fandom equivalents
Fandom be now like:
To sprint press "Alt" and "f4"
It's the bing for minecraft wiki
This has been happening with the Undertale Yellow wiki as well. I didn't know they had moved until i went back to a page i had recently edited and multiple paragraphs were replaced with like three words and a sad face. Entire new pages have been made for nonsense characters. Absolutely ridiculous lmaoo
i tried to check how to duplicate a smithing template and one of these goobers on the fandom wiki claimed it required a nether star, which i was a little confused about before i realized where i was
I find it hilarious that the nice person saying "don't fight :(" was changed to the mcdonalds menu.
Someone should replace all the block textures on the wiki with their oldest textures, and only their oldest textures. That would be funny.
Even better - find random pages, check their history, look for useful changes and revert them
@@akeem2983 That'd be especially evil for enchantments and potions. I'd love to see that.
we need to stop completely vandalizing the entire page and instead make tiny edits that would be time consuming for the few remaining mods to fact check until the wiki is full of slightly wrong information
But that would confuse actual people that want to actually learn about the game. I think mass griefing is the answer
Change all the hyperlinks on the fandom to direct towards the better Minecraft wiki
@@vencedor1774 shouldnt we be working to get the fandom wiki discontinued entirely so they have to switch to the proper wiki?
@@everettw.9610 People have tried that. It always gets redacted, unfortunately.
As the operator of the independent Doom Wiki: Fandom has been a dumpster fire since at least 2011 when it was still called Wikia. 👍

Every fandom that has migrated their wiki to a non-Fandom service always has that one phase where everyone just turns the Fandom wiki into a vandalised hellhole. It's happened with Calamity Mod already, and the effects are in equal parts ridiculous and something that could actually be in the game.
May I ask why people do it?
And here we see Chaotic Good and Lawful Good in their natural habitat.

@@Dreamheart101 Genocide.
Jokes aside, what they do is far worse.
List of sins
Game search engines to make them the top result, will force Fandom wikis to stay on Fandom if they attempt migration, have 9001 ads on every single page (many of which are intrusive), will change other people's wikis with no warning just to push an agenda or advertisement (see the McDonalds wiki Grimace incident) and overall be a disgrace to wikis and the internet as a whole.

I agree that advertising the new wiki is more ideal, but those are easier for fandom mods to spot and vandalism is much funnier
