  • BAN RAK THAI | Welcome to Thailand's village of Ban Rak Thai, a place that looks more like it's located in the mountains of China, than northern Thailand. Nestled in the backcountry of Mae Hong Son province, Ban Rak Thai is a hidden-gem and is influenced by the late generations of Chinese exiles who called this village home. Ban Rak Thai is home to tea plantations, tea shops and a man-made lake making it a great choice for a unique cultural trip in Thailand. In this video we share with you our experience visiting Ban Rak Thai and our thoughts on driving the Mae Hong Son Loop.

    I like those little floating boats🛥️ on the lake🌊. They almost seem like Thailand's version of the Venezian gondolas🚣. From the aerial perspective,those winding roads🛣️ seem quite epic. Anyway,a great programme, guys. See you in your next upload!

      Yes I can totally see that about he boats!!! Gorgeous and very romantic! Glad you enjoyed the aerial shots, I feel as though we captured 1% of the drive though, there were so many times we were just mesmerised by the landscape that we forgot to pull over and get the shots!!

    There will be fog in the evening and early morning. It is very romantic to take a boat and take photo.

    What a lovely place to visit for a day and take a boat trip. I would enjoy viewing the different selection of teas on sale, and tasting them, being a tea Jenny! ❤

      Haha best part about it. You can even do tea tastings at all the different plantations. Thanks Tracy 🙏🏼❤️

    I have plans to go there in January. One blog said the town is closed to foreigners due to the Myanmar War. Did you experience any closures while traveling there? Thank you!

    • @cjexplores
      @cjexplores  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No we didn't experience any closures. It was only afterwards that we heard about this. But it's been about 5-6 weeks since we were there. Check with your embassy or Thai travel authorities if there are any advisories if you're concerned 🙏

    The early history of Santikhiri village centers on the opium trade in the Golden Triangle, in which people from the 93rd Division, the "Lost Army" of the Republic of China, were involved. After the Chinese Civil War ended in 1949, some Kuomintang forces refused to surrender, including the 93rd Division, led by General Tuan. Xiwen 93rd Division fights out of Yunnan Province in southwestern China. and soldiers lived nomadicly in the Burmese forests before taking refuge in Mae Salong. In exchange for their refuge, 93rd Division soldiers helped fight communist infiltration on the Thai border since 1982. The Thai government responded by granting citizenship to Kuomintang soldiers and their families.
