This is currently our struggle. I pulled my kids out in april and although i know i should deschool approx 1 month for each year they were in PS , i started academics very slowly and the push back was instant. I now know i didnt deschool enough ( in my case 3 months) . You're videos are always so helpful, thank you.

You're welcome! And I would definitely de-school a little longer. Then consider re-introducing learning at natural points during the day (like reading at bedtime) or pick a topic that interests them

Mine just wanna play games and have fun so they see school as competing with time for that.

Sometimes it's something they have to learn. We have a saying, "every day we work and play." And I remind them that they determine how long the "work" time is.

    Hi There ,
Another great video! I was dealing with this issue today so this video is right on time for me.
Quick question… Do you have a video up on how homeschoolers in Ontario get high school credits/ diplomas.
I’m teaching preschool and elementary now. But, I’m curious about the high school years and doing a little research here and there.
I saw on a website that children need to graduate from public school or online school in order to get a high school diploma.
Not sure what to think about that.
Any video’s or websites recommendations is well appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't have any videos about that presently, but to get an official high school diploma you must complete all the courses required through an accredited school, wether in person or distance. Many parents choosing this option go with ILC or TVO for their kids. It's basically the same classes as your local high school just paper versions.
If you're not keen on a diploma, some kids take other programs and then just go to post-secondary as mature students at 19 or they take 6 grade 12 classes from an accredited school program. Beyond that some take the GED (which is currently being discontinued in May 2024, but I highly suspect it will come back in another form within the next year or so)

This was a great question. Thanks for answering. I’m new to homeschool. What does ILC and TVO stand for?

Maybe he just needs a different kind of artistic or creative outlet.
