Wow! Thanks for posting this video. In the summer of 1971, I spent a week in a beach cabin along this beach. It was across the road from the cemetery and my cousin and I walked along the beach several times. I was almost 13 years old then and distinctly recall a man surfing at the mouth of the Elwah River. Thanks for posting this video, it definitely brought back fond memories!
Sea-level rise. Seen the same at Cordova Bay north of Victoria, for the last 15 years, Sand beach carved away at high tide and deposited in offshore bars.
King tides have really been doing their work this year. I live in Ocean Park, WA and the waves have been breaking just off shore at 20 to 25 feet. Not a good idea to be walking so close to the water when sneaker waves are around. It's too dangerous.
Absolutely wonderful little adventure, it's so gorgeous out there, and man do I adore weather and flooding like that! One of my absolute favorite things. Being able to watch, observe and learn from nature as she takes her course and reclaims herself, healing, restoring and repairing, teaching us what she wants and needs, which is almost always never the same as we do in our "help" and interventions in the name of "Environmentslism" and "Conservation". It shows us that we are the ones out to help ourselves and protect our things, property and lives, not earth, nature, etc like we claim. From floods to fires, when we allow nature and the earth to do these things on her own, and do not intervene, prevent or control it, we always find it is to heal, repair and correct a imbalance. Rid a disease. Etc. When we do intervene, prevent and slow these things, mitigate, etc, we always find the problems worsen, and her efforts to burn and flood worsen. More frequent, more intense, wore widespread. We have the most unique, magical landscapes and ecosystems here in the Northwest! Such diversity and intense beauty that it often truly feels like it cannot be real. No matter how often we get out in it, take it in, and appreciate it, it still manages to be taking it for granted. I'm a Oregonian, but Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, BC, NWT, Yukon and Alaska are all wicked gorgeous, magical and all thenselves are unique. To grow to see the differences immediately is a level of deep enamored appreciation for our beautiful landscapes and scenery that is simply too powerful to put into words. But I am glad I have that ability. Floods, King Tides, Erosion, Burns.... All of it is a beautiful, natural sequence that always brings incredible change and wonderful healing to the land. The changes should be loved and appreciated with deep gratitude, and excitement to explore the changes and learn from it all. Happy 2025 to you all! Sky is adorable, her free spirit and expressive personality are adorable and contagious!
The dog looks like a Malemute. We had the same issue. They can not be trained for anything but pulling a sled like a horse. She was good natured though.

Thanks for sharing your memories! The mouth of the Elwha River is a special place.
I live in Port Angeles. It's been awhile since I've been out there, I'm definitely going to have to check it out. Thanks for sharing❤
Me too! I've not been out there since before the dams came down.
Pretty woods, beautiful dog, wow - big changes on the shoreline there. . .
Glad I came across your fun day out. Sure miss the upper left edge

I'm thinking that surfers would love king tides because the waves would be bigger, and the chance of surfing a "pipeline" would be greater.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughtful perspective on nature's restorative power. Thanks for the kind words about Skye! Happy New Year to you too!
That beast has enough fur for 2 dogs
The Hoh river washed out part of Upper Hoh Road. It's closed indefinitely.

Heard the man say "elkhound"; a Norwegian breed.
Well before it turned into sand at a beach it was a coastal mountain.
😮😊😮😊
The only constant is change……
DO NOT let your dog drink that water.
