    This is secretly the most important video you've made. All the motor skills studies point to the requirement of a kinesthetic sensation of the desired motion to perform most reliably. I love how you developed the battering ram analogy because even for a new player, it tricks your brain into performing the correct motor skill for the perfect golf shot!

      Right on Tristan!! Which studies have influenced you the most and which ones have you enjoyed reading the most?

      David Lee's paper is quite comprehensive dx.doi.org/10.1123/ijgs.2014-0004. Very cool that such important research is being written by a fellow Canadian!

      I dig this guy! Especially his doorpost analogy. This video is revolutionary also. The two pendulums of the golf swing in perspective!

    Amazing I don t play golf but pétanque. I use all your technique and it s work. All the sensation change. The shoot is so easy when i use the gravity and equilibre. Thx for you and Edouard montaz for your explication 😁

    is Shawn coming down via hozzle and rotation squaring though impact? I cant get that to work swinging to target tho. Youd never square the face up.

      well i have to say that the recommended video answers my question perfectly. thank you. amazing to see a golf video just speak in plain English. I can see by your own dynamic angles in your own swing that you understand the swing so im going to give it a go. Im a bit shocked by the grip solution but im going to try it. Many thanks.

    When taking non-full swings without the full whip or velocity of the club I have a hard time getting that natural release of my trail hand. Especially if I just try to hit the driver 250 yards as a drill, ending up with some serious slice on slower swings but pretty good power fade on full swings. How to make sure your hand releases or turns over without the help of gravity?

    Shawn, you recently noticed in our San Antonio session my lead wrist would cup rather than rotate, which prevented my trail hand from turning over in the release. What causes this lead wrist to cup? And what are good drills to make it turn over instead? I have been working on this recently and when I get the lead hand to properly release rather than cup, it feels my trail arm goes much "straighter" into the follow through and my follow through feels more "left" than before. One mental issue I have with this is that when I try to get this "turn over" release, sometimes I feel like the club face is going to be too closed at impact and the ball will go too far to the left. Thanks!

      @golflessons  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Vuk!
      Will be doing a video with a new training aid for that; in the meantime, you remember the ping pong back hand top spin release right? And important that YOU LET THE CLUB RELEASE YOU! Feel the sword release a few times with both hands; then feel both hands on the grip and do a couple baseball swings and feel that baseball snap. Shawn

    I've realized that the main problem with people having a good golf swing is there is an epidemic fundamental misunderstanding of how it should feel to swing the golf club. I know I had it for years. The lightbulb just went on fairly recently for me. The club swings you and the lag just happens if you let it. That ends up sounding cryptic and mystical to people, but it is the literal truth.

  • @johnrenock4835
    @johnrenock4835 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Shawn. Whenever I make a more aggressive swing, I make great contact but create too much left spin on the ball. Every shot becomes a hook. It feels like my hands are rotating over at the ball, not after . Any thoughts?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep tabs on your strain level!! 1-confirm that your focus stayed on the direction you wanted to start the ball and did not default to the ball; 2-strain of 3/10 to get a velocity of 7/10

    love your video you break it down so a kindergarten could understand. I just can't understand why I can hit my 3w- down fade and draw on command thanks to your video of working the ball. Shawn no matter what I do I can hit the driver. should I just use 3w and never you a driver?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keep going with the 3 wood and have a blast with it off the tee and keep creating shots; have you tried different drivers to see which model suits you best? Or are you bent on making it happen with yours? I have seen it so many times where a club was just not the right fit and there was nothing wrong with the player!

    • @kmaloy2278
      @kmaloy2278 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a slazenger raw distance wood set 9.5, 15, and 20 degree. I've tried many drivers, at Dick's using their monitor and it is always a straight slice. When playing for the slice I get it on fairway. Only on wide fairways. I've recorded myself and it looks like I doing a perfect in to out swing but it always a straight slice.? I know I need to go to a PGA professional for guidance. Just don't know if the 3w works and gets me in a great position for attacking the green why fix the driver? Thanks for you videos you break it down so simple .

    @lesmurray2000 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    You make mention of the hands naturally rolling over post-impact as a natural function of releasing the bat/club/raquet to the target. I would like to add that if you don't allow your hands to pass your shoulders in rotation, then you will gain stability of the club head through impact. How do you do this? By increasing your torso rotational velocity beyond the strike. This will keep force on the club head and not allowing it to roll over. The best at this were Ben Hogan in golf and Ted Williams in baseball. The best at their craft in history.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Les, this release is well POST IMPACT! The mantra here at wisdom in golf is to deliver an action to a target which requires you to do exactly what you said and this WITHOUT HAVING TO THINK ABOUT THE BODY PARTS. Ted Williams and Ben Hogan were masters at finding targets and that target focus is what allowed them to achieve those positions that the industry gets hypnotized by. The key is what was the root focus that brought it all together! See "dynamic vs static shawn clement" part 1-2 and "Hogan's Real Secret shawn clement" as starters...

    I get this conceptually, been a fan for a long time, but there is enough slow motion video out there in all these sports to show that the best players don't release like this. Maybe it's taking a toll on their joints but it is making them proficient at what they're doing.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Sean! Yes, of course! And what shot shape and what lie were these players having to contend with at the time? This is the FIRST THING people need to see. However, of you are going to be able to get THROUGH THE BALL, you need to understand what the feel if going to be like on the other side of the ball. The ball-grass-ground vs high fade and or low draw changes the flavour of the release, absolutely!

    Different players have different follow through positions . For e.g Rory and bubba finish their swings very differently. Bubba has higher hands a bit like you while Rory is more rounded. Is Rory's swing more manipulated ? I am curious to know why players have different finish positions

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, Rory is constantly tweaking and manipulating positions while Bubba is a free wheel! Rory's swing at age 9 had way more freedom and the fear mongers got to him and convinced him to nip and tuck away at his freedom that the brain would have very naturally streamlined...

      Bad cricketers throw/hit the toe end of the bat at the ball, good batsman control/use the handle, tho it used to be more of a tailend charlies uninhibited six over the bowler but now a good 20/20 batsman is closer to a golf swing as theyre going for 6s not 4s

    It looks like to me you're rotating around the center of weight (weight of you plus and your tool) in baseball and hockey. In golf swing, you're moving up and down. I'm talking about the main force you're using. I think that you are using different kinds of acceleration mechanism between golf swing and baseball or hockey. How do you think about that?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The EXACT SAME ONES APPLY! See "hammer throwing" in the Olympics; baseball hitting; walking and swinging the club through grass or balls (see walk to a better swing shawn clement") as well as tossing horse shoes; see "horse shoes and lassos shawn clement"

    Bonsoir Shawn
    it's not the same thing beetween ping-pong , baseBall, hockey, and golf because in golf the Ball is static and in other sport the Ball move...so the eyes and the brain see the mouvement and the speed of the ball ..and it's very différent .
    have a Nice Day

      This is what the golf industry is trying to brainwash you into thinking Bruno and they did a great job!! Golf-Fencing-using and axe-baseball-tenis serve and Ping Pong serve is the same for sure!! Your brain makes lets the ball make you static; MY TARGET AND THE FLIGHT OF THE BALL TO THE TARGET MAKES MY BRAIN DYNAMIC!!

      Hello Bruno..... Trust when I tell you, Shawn is on the money with these analogies. I was lucky to have a lesson with Shawn in Orlando this past weekend. When you learn the correct feel of perpetual motion, then these releases make so much sense. Especially the left hand ping pong release for me at least...
