As a Swiss I am getting a bit sentimental about this and the fact that in all of Eurovision history this language was heard only once!

I thought this was dull and boring in 1989. But l was only 12. It has grown over the years and now l see that its quite classy. Well performed.

C"est Fantastique/ Merveilleux!. I loved this song at the 89 Contest and prayed that it would win. I love Romanish since it is a minority Language and I always try to support minoritiy languages - they are vital to global culture. I love Switzerland and the diversity of lingusitic ability four official languages is how it should be in many countries. The group was superb all good looking, gelling well together, beautifully attired a real credit to Switzerland. This is one of all time great entries along with the fabulous Lys Assia of 1956.

I wish Switzerland could come back with a song in Romanish or what the English word for this wonderful language is.
Back in 1972 Ireland sang in Irish
In 1996 France sang in Bretanic
I wish that countries could «dare» to sing in languages of their own. Eurovision is about to turn out to be a Eurovision British Song Contest.
Give a like if you agree.

Well, not British, most singers have (or least try to) an American accent.

Norway did also sing in a local dialect both in 1989 and in 1993. Both from the county of Rogaland in the South western part of Norway. Britt Synnøve Johansen 1989 from Karmøy and Silje Vige from Jørpeland in 1993.

I have no idea what they sing about. Even online translators did not hear of Rumantsch. But I always remember this song as it is so special due to this language.
And like someone commented: This is what ESC is about. It's not about everybody singing a random EDM song in English with tons of effects and an eye-hurting live performance. It's about bringing together all the cultural diffrences to combine them to one Europe.
Switzerland has Rumantsch, France has Bretonian, Germany has Sorbian. I believe the competition would be much better if minorities and special languages would play a much bigger role.

@@FannomacritaireSuomi You have some faulty logic. So Romansh should be the only official one, yet Portuguese (and European at that) should be the official one of Brazil, but not the indigenous languages? Also, the original three cantons of future Switzerland were German-speaking, the Romansh ones joined later, as well as the French- and Italian-speaking ones, so I don't think anyone brought anything to Switzerland - sure, Romansh loss a lot of its power, but it was when the cantons were already joined in a one state.
