@@chandlerainsley haha I just finished and I really enjoyed it too! I can't believe you read it and did the vlog all in one night! I know it says the book is 485 pages but it felt SO LONG
That shit is what pissed me off the most as I was reading. I was like wow omg PD is doing something really good with a character!!! I get that Jake is not supposed to be a good guy but I feel punked.
Literally the only problem i had with this book was kaleb LOL. I mean, i love damon so you know I'm good with the bad guys but he was just.....not written well imo. He came in late, interacted with the heroine least, and when he did he acted like a neanderthal man child which i didn't appreciate. The heroine even says he acts like a child or an animal in her head several times and i felt they really had zero connection. Her connection with jake and Noah was much more there and even though they obviously weren't the one's she meant to be with, BUT then i should be rooting for her to be with the main guy and i never was. I still enjoyed the book but it definitely wasn't her best for me. Weakest hero she's ever written.
you're not wrong, i was thinking this morning and i really wish she would have given us one more meaningful scene between kaleb and tiernan BEFORE they separated. that's all i needed to believe their relationship honestly but it was just missing that extra piece
@@chandlerainsley also, the bits where she reads his notes in the books -- such a weird way to "communicate" and kind of nonsensical? mixed feelings about the fact that he's writing in these books but she doesn't think he's actually reading most of them... and don't even get me started on how weird and unnecessary the whole villain plotline was. the book didn't really need it at all. i've never felt so weird about a book, especially because, while being good, it was deeply unsettling!
I was wondering what it would be like it they had made this into a series 🤔 maybe it would make it too stretched out but I think it would make the "bed hopping" less alienating 🙈. Would've loved an extra moment with Kaleb and also maybe a chapter and about him trying to speak again whilst they were seperated? I feel like this could've been an amazing series with more substance to the male leads (like with punk 57).
"what in the caucasian fuck?!" SKSKSKDK that was me throughout the whole book. I was itching to watch your review, but I wanted to read without spoilers and I have MANY regrets. like I knew it wouldn't be a p douglas book if it didn't push our buttons a little, but I should've taken the warnings on twitter more seriously lol to me this book is five stars for tiernan's character development, the beautiful writing and how atmospheric this book felt. but I have MANY issues in regards to kaleb to enjoy it fully. and I saw many ppl comparing him to damon from devil's night but honestly??? kaleb WISHES he had what damon has bye ✌
I just finished this book and a have so many mixed feelings. I liked it but I wished there were more chapters from Kaleb POV because I had a hard time seeing the connection between him and Tiernan since we couldn't see his thoughts or hear him communicate at all !!!!
I honestly loved this book. It was a hard read with things that seemed so wrong and twisted and things that are not acceptable by the society. But in a way, it felt right and justified and so deep! She slept with all of them because of different and justified reasons. Tiernan was lonely and longing for love and affection, just like Jake! He lost the love of his life at an early age just like Tiernan lost the love of her parents. They were hurting in the same way and maybe that’s why they felt attracted towards each other. Now, Noah was a boy who was always present in a place physically but never mentally. He knew that he did not belong there but always covered his emotions with a mask just like Tiernan. She always had this feeling that she did not belong with her parents or the fame or money or just people. Like Noah, she covered her emotions and did not let anyone in. She felt attracted to Noah because they were alike and yet different in many ways. Moving on to Kaleb, even though they did not have a lot of conversations, I feel that it was not needed only. They spoke more through their actions and eyes. Both of them were similar in so many ways! Both hated people, both preferred staying alone and both were punishing themselves. Kaleb became mute because he wanted to punish the world for what had happened with him and Tiernan did not talk much because she never had anyone to talk to and was punishing the world by not having any hobbies or aim or just interest in anything. But in a way, both of them were just hurting themselves in order to punish the world. Even tho Kaleb was mean and aggressive with her, she fell in love with him because they understood each other’s pain. She chose Kaleb because he was the one who understood her and showed affection without saying anything. I think that was the most powerful thing in the book because love doesn’t really require words, it just happens! It’s a dark book but with so much beauty and depth.
I loved this one for a lot of the reasons you brought up. The emotional growth was well done. I also had to put it down during those questionable consent moments, take a walk, and come back to it. Ultimately though, I find it really easy to enjoy Penelope Douglas precisely b/c of the emotional journeys of her characters. And sometimes mutual moments over 80s movies are also good.
this is exactly how I felt while reading this book!!. I enjoy your videos so much!!! even tho some of the things that happened did shock me a little I love books that make me feel and that after I'm done I think about them and have me feeling all sorts of ways.
I’m gonna be the creep in the comments and say I wanted her to stay with all of them like a reverse polygamy brother-husband situation where she literally marries all of them. Seriously though I loved the book just as much as Birthday Girl.
So this book isn't for me, and I knew that from the description, but this video is one of the best reading vlogs I've ever seen. I just loved seeing your reactions to various scenes! (Although it's killing me that I don't know who she ends up with so I'm going in search of spoilers now.)
I like romances where they are separated for a few months at the end too. I think it can work really well and make for a more convincing happy ending. I usually only see that in f/f romances, it would be nice to see it more in m/f.
This book was.....wow.....just wow. I kinda read along with the vlog and would read and then stop when you would get to the place where I was.....at one point I was further ahead and I was like, "omg, Chan, aren't you gonna be surprised," and then I'd see your expression when you would get to that point and I would laugh!!!! I think we had a lot of the same ideas as to how things were going to go... ..and boy oh boy I was off, lol! This one was definitely lots of fun!
Just a follow up .....this was my first Penelope Douglas book and I just now finished Punk 57 and I LOVED IT!!! What is going on!!!! I read fantasy and thrillers and occasional smut, but I am REALLY LOVING her work!!! Birthday Girl is next!!!!!
This was my first book of author . I really liked how she developed character and relationship btw the them . And loved the steamy scenes . And I liked who she ends up with loved the book.
Watching your channel has made me give romance a chance. I used to HATE romance but after watching your videos for the past month I've read Her Royal Highness, Red White and Royal Blue, The Bride Test, and With the Fire on High. Some of these aren't SUPER romancy but it's a lot more than my usual. Usually when I hear that a book has a lot of romance I don't pick it up.
Around 10:42: your "why the fuck not" when talking about Noah and Tiernan sleeping together made me laugh soooo much :) because the more I read, the more often I thought exactly that because it just got steamier and steamier 😂
tysm for voicing some of my feelings towards this book i was lowkey struggling with pinpointing how i felt on some things but you said it all perfectly!! 💕
"what in the Caucasian fuck" haha man you seriously crack me up, you are the reason why I read so many different books now and I honestly love these type of videos and now I have to check out this book!
I really tried to get into this book. I just couldn’t get past the like step uncle part and I know they were never family. I personally think if they were like her parents old friends or something that would be fine.
I don't even read smutty romances, but you are so well-spoken that I have to watch. Maybe I start reading them hahahahah. If you have any short smutty book recommendations, please let me know. XOXO 💞💞💞
I have so many mixed feelings about this book. I absolutely loved the plot and storyline and I liked how she was able to find a sense of family in the boys BUT I was literally disgusted with the relationship she has with Jake because he is literally as old as her dad AND she wasn’t even 17 when they.... you know. I also feel like there was so much more potential to Kaleb and I hated how the assault on the main character was romanticized. That’s it, thank you for coming to my Ted talk
Omg! 10:53, when describing relationship between Noah and Tiernan you said: “I actually think they’re going to have sex, cause I get the f*** not”. Last 6 words pretty much sum up my reaction to most of things happening in the book! Excellent video! So glad I picked it up from your recommendations! Thank you for all the work you put into your videos!
Watching this review after reading. And the beginning is so sweet...but knowing what's coming up next... it's some anither level of review experience 😂
I finished this and I needed reactions to some scenes so i came here, not disappointed 😂 pd is a new author for me so my brain is feeling some kinda shock
SPOILERS: . . . . . Great review! I had a lot of the same feelings when reading, but the only other issue I had was the way Kaleb's muteness was treated? I totally understood Tiernan's need for him to communicate with her, but there's more ways to communicate than to verbally speak. At the same time I also realize he made the decision to start speaking again on his own, but it felt weird/uncomfy to me.
I felt exactly the same way and it really hindered my enjoyment. Kaleb's muteness clearly results from trauma so even thought he is physically able to speak it's not like he can just start speaking??
Omg it’s almost 3am and I have to be up at 6 ugh watching this makes me wanna download the book now! But I have homework due this weekend ugh discussions discussions
I read some of the scenes you had funny reactions to and I am not disappointed 😂 I loved experiencing this book with you! I loved Birthday Girl and this was a super fun video.
LOL, your review made me laugh! There's a lot to like about this book. I loved the first half of it- it was so atmospherical, I love Tiernan's arrival at the peak, and how she adjusts to their lives- up until 65% of the book and then it all goes to hell. My biggest issue with this book was that I didn't like who she picked.Their relationship didn't make sense to me, which is a first for a PD book. To be honest, I didn't like any of them for her. She needed them to grow up, but I almost wish she would've stayed single in the end.
I thought I was fucked up. But the fact that people accept Kaleb and him sexual abusing/assaulting, degrading, and bullying her...blows my fucking mind.
I waited to watch your video until I finished reading, and it was so entertaining to watch you react knowing what was coming. Definitely loved Punk57 more than this--it has its issues. But I'm excited to read some more P. Doug!

Honestly, this book sounds rough so I THOROUGHLY enjoyed getting to "read it with you." And you didnt really spoil too much...like I could still go read the book but yeah really enjoyed this format! Please do again!!!
I literally loved this book so so much and it made me so emotional and yes it’s definitely has it’s problems with some things that some people should take into consideration before looking to read this and same with the sex scenes since they are... very... graphic... but other than that it was something I enjoyed and loved so much especially the... MAIN relationship in it that definitely made my heart hurt in a good way💖 :) definitely will be re reading!
Great video! I was LOVING the book until 75% mark... then, I lost steam and it was a struggle to get through last 25%. The chapter that changed to 3rd person narrator at 75% ruined it all for me and to me, there was no redemption for that character after that.
this is my first time looking at your video review and I'm officially subscribing after " I'm straying further and further from Gods light tonight, help" lmao
I saw this video, heard you mention it was like twilight, stop the video to read the book, so i could enjoy the video even more, and now im back to watch the whole video. "what in the caucusing fuck" 😂
I also had twilight feels at the biggining and at the scene of her meeting kaleb (what the fuuuck btw) I kidd you not I thought IS HE A VAMPIRE the whole blood thing threw me off lmao
I read this along with the vlog. Giving breaks to hear your thoughts. This definitely brought up a lot of emotions out of me. I feel the author could have toned down the dub con.
I totally agree with you assessment on the tone of her Standalones being all different. “What in the Caucasian fuck” 😂😂 I gave it 4 1/2 stars. I pretty well agree with your review.
started reading it while babysitting (didn’t sleep) 😂 and holy shit emotiooons and I didn’t know how to feel towards 60%-99% I am currently re-reading again cause it was a lot to process. Kind of wish nothing would have happened with Jake...it feels unnecessary (especially how it just ended so abruptly with them ) Very into Noah and Kaleb tho 😨😂 like wow why is this turning me on 👀
Hey Chandler, I have a recommendation for you, this book is heavy so heres a light romance, that I enjoyed, but it definitely has a "smut" factor ;) it's called: Well Met by Jen DeLuca. I would love to see a review :)

MAIN relationship in it that definitely made my heart hurt in a good way💖 :) definitely will be re reading!
All your reactions were precisely how I reacted. I just know I have to subscribe and watch your other videos.
Justice for uncle jake!!! I loved them togetherrrr
Great video! I was LOVING the book until 75% mark... then, I lost steam and it was a struggle to get through last 25%. The chapter that changed to 3rd person narrator at 75% ruined it all for me and to me, there was no redemption for that character after that.
Watched the whole jam and still wanna read it. 👀💁🏽♀️
Im in the middle of watching the video and i just have to comment that you’re really pretty 💖
haha thank you
i wanna be you when i grow up
this is my first time looking at your video review and I'm officially subscribing after " I'm straying further and further from Gods light tonight, help" lmao
Lol this has now been in my watch later for over a year and I finally read the book last night so here I am 😂
I couldn't finish the book fast enough just to watch your vlog about it and I'm dying from laughter xD
You are me reading this. Word to word!😭
“That’s really special” 😂
I loved this. I'm really excited for more videos like this
I saw this video, heard you mention it was like twilight, stop the video to read the book, so i could enjoy the video even more, and now im back to watch the whole video. "what in the caucusing fuck" 😂
I also had twilight feels at the biggining and at the scene of her meeting kaleb (what the fuuuck btw) I kidd you not I thought IS HE A VAMPIRE the whole blood thing threw me off lmao
She said, “what in the Caucasian fuck!?” and I died! 😂🤣☠️
I read this along with the vlog. Giving breaks to hear your thoughts. This definitely brought up a lot of emotions out of me. I feel the author could have toned down the dub con.
yeah i agree, i felt a lot of the violence and stuff was unnecessary. i prefer a sweeter hero if he's going to be quiet/brooding
you make me wanna read smutty books lol
i feel like u were born to. accept ur destiny
I was trying so hard to not watch this video bc I want to read the book but I CAVED. This was so good.
Still reading the book tho.
When I tell you I need this book, bruh I need it
I was laughing this whole video omg
I totally agree with you assessment on the tone of her Standalones being all different. “What in the Caucasian fuck” 😂😂
I gave it 4 1/2 stars. I pretty well agree with your review.
started reading it while babysitting (didn’t sleep) 😂 and holy shit emotiooons and I didn’t know how to feel towards 60%-99% I am currently re-reading again cause it was a lot to process. Kind of wish nothing would have happened with Jake...it feels unnecessary (especially how it just ended so abruptly with them )
Very into Noah and Kaleb tho 😨😂 like wow why is this turning me on 👀
I really like this book
Hey Chandler, I have a recommendation for you, this book is heavy so heres a light romance, that I enjoyed, but it definitely has a "smut" factor ;) it's called: Well Met by Jen DeLuca. I would love to see a review :)
Its 2024 and i read this 2 months ago and im still hungover this book 😭
