It was a tough call, seemed more exciting to put foods into either ‘really good’ or just ‘ok’ categories. But in reality many of the foods in those categories could’ve easily been in an in between category!

Heat it to 200 degrees, let it cold a little and eat it with hard whipped cream and sylt/jam.
(High quality orange marmelade is also good, instead of jam, but not to much!)

Hjortronsylt (cloudberry jam) is way above God tier. WAY above!
Vrigstad ostkaka tycker jag är mycket godare än Frödinge ostkaka.
Ostkaka och smörgåstårta är de två sakerna jag har saknat till galenskap efter att jag blev fast utanför Sverige. Och must! Vanligtvis gäller det lussekatter också, men jag tog mig samman i julas och bakade egna tills jag blev nöjd med resultatet.
Hey, you forgot about Kroppkakor and Palt, now that is typical (southeastern for kroppkakor and northen for palt) swedish food. One of them (kroppkakor) should really be in here. Also, where is the blodpudding?
Blodpudding is English tho it's what they call black pudding however having it with lingon is definitely Swedish 😁

Knackebrod is a traditional food some of us from Sverige were raised on and should be in an AMAZING category because there are variations and different ways to eat it. We associate our Swedish heritage with that as much as the Swedish Meatballs.😀

As a Swede living in an other country for 8 years, some things I miss - tunnbröd, leverpastej, Marabou (different flavours), julmust, Marianne, Geisha, prinskorv, sockerdricka, Kebab/Gyrospizza, Kebab/Gyros tallrik, Bearnaise sås, Falukorv, Semlor (might bake some this year), Biskvi (I make these sometimes, a real hit with the family!), rån, västerbotten ost...
That's all I can think of at this moment, l bake Lussekatter myself every Christmas so can't really say I miss it.

Have you ever had "pyttipanna"? And when I lived in Sweden long ago, I was told that to eat sur strömming, go to a restaurant with a whole room dedicated to it...take your friends, sit in the room NEXT to that room, have a few schnapps, then they open the door to the room, you drink more schnapps, and THEN you can tolerate going into the dedicated room and eat it!

Sometimes you can find Dutch salt liquorice at the international food section at Woolworths. The ones in a roll are not bad, soft, chewy and very salty.
I know it's not the same as Swedish liquorice but better than nothing!

FYI: the horse meatballs wasn't IKEA, it was Findus
The meatballs ikea sold contained horsemeat in them without ikea knowing about it as well. This was done because horsemeat was cheaper for the producer to buy giving a higher profit, atleast until this fact was uncovered. It was also found in Findus lasagna and other products
Actually their is a Swedish sausage with real horse meat in Dalarna, it is called Gustafskorv. It is a really good type of sausage though.

Mate, rågbröd is not danish. It’s very typical for all the Nordic countries and i guess Russia. There is a specific kind of rågbröd called danskt rågbröd though, that is very compact. 🙂

Yes, there are similar types of bread in other countries. Usually around the Baltic Sea (Denmark, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, and parts of Russia). Rye is a grain fitted for the temperature zone, have a good yield, can handle some occasional flooding, some frost, and can grow on poorer soils. You can bake with it, but it requires more skill than wheat.
The best danish rågbröd is bought at a small, private bakery in Halmstad, Sweden.

Surströmming is not supposed to be eaten directly from the can, but cooked. The stuff that's in the can is something you are supposed to throw away.

There is a christmas bread we always buy called Vörtbröd (with raisins usually) that shit's so good. Its very gingerbreaddy and looks kinda like rye bread but its not

Sweden does have its own version of cheesecake, småländsk ostkaka, and it's one of the most delicious things in the world. There's a brand called Frödinge Ostkaka that you can get in most grocery stores, you gotta buy it.
Cheesecake is a totally different thing though.
Ostkaka is basically made of färskost ("keso"), inte vanlig hårdost eller smältost.

We have made leverpostej since the Middle Ages in Denmark, and is usually battling with another Danish favorite (spegepølse) to be the most popular topping. We usually leave the fish for you.
Knäckebröd so has a good taste, the rye really makes it great.
Two other Swedish breads I think should be in a list like this are spiced soft Tunnbröd and thin hard Tunnbröd. Also as spreads, Ägg och Kaviar, Gravlax med Hovmästarsås. But traditional Swedish foods that might be worth mentioning are Isterband, Palt, Kroppkakor, Fläsklägg med Rotmos, Ärtsoppa och Pannkakor, Korngrynskaka med Fläsk, Kåldolmar, Biff med Lök, Ostkaka (≠ Cheesecake), etc.

I like to crumble knäckebröd into smaller pieces into a bowl and pour fil or naturell yoghurt over.
When I was a kid in school we used to eat knäckebröd with butter and grillkrydda, when we didn't like the food.

IKEA's meatballs are trash tier compared to homemade ones. People have got to stop saying that IKEA's are excellent because then those who haven't tasted any other kind will think that's as good as it gets.
You missed some:
Gravlax is entirely nordic and mainly Swedish. You missed Swedish caviar, the shitty but good kind. Isterband is an excellent Swedish sausage. Wallenbergare is great and common but I suppose that falls too close to meatballs..THE CRUMP PIE is the best kind of pie. Apparently that's a Swedish thing and everyone else is just missing out. The Swedish cheesecake is shit, don't try it. Spettekaka is really boring, don't try it. But both of those are also traditional Swedish dishes from southern Sweden. AND WAFFLES! Those are pretty excellent.

haha, "I know about the wars". Swedish rågbröd(rye bread) is different from Danish rågbröd. Danish rågbröd is much closer to german rye bread. Same goes for leverpastej. Difference between swedish and danish.
Nobody puts Ketchup on Sill, that's a waste of Ketchup you need for your macaroni. Ketchup for the macaroni, mustard for the falukorv, and they don't mix.
Leverpastej is kinda a mix really It's done in both Sweden and Denmark, the danes do this really awesome dish "Lun leverpostej" where they heat it up until it's warm (I think 150 degrees C in the oven), then serve it on rye bread with fried mushrooms and bacon on top. It's god tier, they really nailed that one, danskjävlar.
Not ketchup, but there is tomatsill.
Banana Curry Pizza and Liqourice is easily on the God Tier. There is alot of people that LOVE it. You can trash the fish and toast skagen. There is so much better fish and bread here in Sweden. Sometimes I don't know what you are talking about by the way. Falukorv and Sandwich cake is something that almost every Swede love/like because it is high quality food. And then it depends on the brand of the Falukorv of course. Sandwich cake should be home made and customized for your liking at an event such as a celebration. If you are making a sandwich cake and failing it is only because of YOU! But if you are invited to eat someones sandwich cake you might not like it. Anyway sandwich cake can definitely be awesome! If you don't like sandwich cake at all you probably shouldn't even discuss food.

Also, I believe the horse meat thing was at Max Hamburgers (Stefan be like 😱😱😱), but It might also have been an IKEA thing. Ps. You can still buy horse meat as cold cuts(pålägg), funnily enough, it's called Hamburgerkött and is made from smoked horse meat.
Definitely was Ikea, and they removed the meatballs from 26 countries, including sweden. I believe there is no longer horse meat in them as they wouldn't be allowed to be sold again if there was. Whether horse meat has been found at Max I'm not sure about, but if that's the case I believe it must've been after I moved from sweden as I haven't heard about it, and I do love Max burgers. 😩 (also 100% agree about the Smörgåstårta)

That winebröd that you show there would make the Danish people cry.... thats a swedish Winerbröd. In Denmark they eat it with Chocolate in the middle not vanilla custard.

It is ready-made Swedish home cooking. Some of what I wrote is eaten in different ways depending on where in Sweden you live.

Horse meat on knäckebröd, it is sometimes called hamburger meat, it is rather yummy but nothing you would miss if it disappears.
Yes, with some horse raddish paste on it as well, very nice.
