    Getting closer to finishing that goal! It's tough making the choice to abandon your plans, but it's better to be cautious and come back later!

    I was out on that range the same weekend as you. I remember seeing your car in the lot with your ADK Woods Walker bumper sticker and thought, "cool! Maybe I'll see those guys!". It was not to be. As you were trekking up Seymour, I was doing Seward from the Calkins Brook side. Like yourself, it's going to take me 3 trips to complete that range (Donaldson and Emmons are still on my to-do list). Thanks for the video, as always.

    I think it always rains in the Sewards. Great job, Seymour is out there. Did you camp near the Caulkins Brook junction?

    • @JayMorrisonOutdoors
      @JayMorrisonOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup -- we camped at a little quasi-hidden spot down the trail a bit (not the super obvious spot with the iron rings). Same place we stayed last September when we did Donaldson and Emmons --- it's quiet, comfortable, and close to the brook.

    Man the Seward range is so gnarly, great video! I can't wait to get out into the Adirondacks, living in Western MA is getting dull with the hikes.

    Obviously it's been a very rainy summer in the North Country so far, more so that usual to me.
    We certainly haven't been out as much as we've wanted to this summer due to the weather but not much you can do except embrace the suck.
    That said, we'll be out on the trail nice and early tomorrow near Saranac Lake.
    It'll be nice to escape the upper 90s and insane humidity we've had this week.

      Definitely an interesting year (weather-wise) - for sure! Good luck and enjoy your adventures!

    The Sewards nearly killed me. It was raining when I was there too. It’s the natural state it seems like lol. It’s also where I first saw the purple velvet mushrooms. So groovy lol
    Great job in such crappy weather. I hope it was hot out with all that rain.

    • @JayMorrisonOutdoors
      @JayMorrisonOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seems like the Sewards were a bit worse than the Santanoni for most folks, but before I had gone out there, nobody was saying it ... like it was a secret ;) Beautiful area, and a few awesome views, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to finishing that range finally!

    Your Seward Range trip(s) are very similar to mine. I hated that range the most. When I was working on them we unfortunately broke them up into 3 trips: Seymour, Donaldson and Emmons (had to cut short because of an injury) and then Seward. Better to be smart than sorry, good call in coming back another day.

    • @JayMorrisonOutdoors
      @JayMorrisonOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely not a favorite range of mine ... but I think mostly because it takes so long to get out to the trailhead, so if you do have to go back out, it's a lot of driving ... oh well ... the end is in sight!

    • @Snitchols
      @Snitchols 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JayMorrisonOutdoors It definitely was the trail head that I least liked getting to. When we did Seymour, we had nasty weather as well. High winds, sleet and snow.

    Weather has been……little bit nuts this summer….rain, heat advisory, severe storm warnings, rain then heat advisory again 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

      Yea, but at least Mother Nature decided that September 1st meant Fall, so I'm happy about that ;)

    Awesome video as always! Congrats on 37/46! Recently completed Colden (15/46) during that weeklong storm a couple weeks back. Backpacked into Marcy Dam as it was down pouring, thunder and lightning and set up camp. Went against my better judgment and stayed overnight, woke up and summited Colden, then packed up camp and got the hell out of there. The thunder, lightning and rain above me the first night sleeping at the dam was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced (not in a good way). Stay well brother! Happy trails.

      Yea --- sometimes the weather comes in fast and hard, and the only thing you can do is either hunker down, or pack up and bail. It's always a balancing act trying to decide which path to take!
      Thanks for watching!

  • @cjscarborough83

    That’s can be a tough one. I camped overnight to do the whole range and long story short, when it did rain, it poured. Congrats on getting one more. I’m surprised the summit sign is gone, it was there two winters ago. Rooting for you!

    I was smiling all the way through this video! I've done the Seward's twice and got soaked each time. We never had a view of anything but the trees in front of us. Even got caught in a whiteout once coming down the Calkins Brook herd path in early September. Had to sit for a half hour till it blew over. Talk about being cold! :-) Great video as always!

      Hah! Yea -- it's an interesting range, to be sure! Thankfully, I think Mark and I figured out our schedules to still be able to complete our 46er journey this year! Thanks for watching!
