I really wish I didn’t live 8 hours away from the Adirondacks. If I lived up there, I would spend all of my time out there exploring. Thank you for the breathtaking video
Awesome video, again. I completed my 46 on Allen 8/04. Went back with couple friends working on theirs about a year later. Both times we stayed back in two nights. Very spiritual spending the night in the Dack’s...
P.S. the short section from the 2nd Brother (Big Slide) to the first ladder has some of the best and fascinating flora I've ever witnessed (I'm a landscape architect).
Cool video! The funny thing is I had been studying possible routes to Allen when the notification for this video popped up. Good stuff, thanks, Jonathon! I can't wait to see your video for the bushwacking to Redfield.
Hey, despite what you said, that looked like a cinematic intro to me, with epic views at the beginning and the end. Great fall colors, too. Awesome job!
Great video. We went the same way you did in early August. We crossed the Opalescent right across from where Dudley Brook enters the Opalescent - was easier to cross there. Was hoping you'd include a shot of the little beaver pond at the end of the hunting camp gravel road and atv trail - must've been beautiful with all the colors. That beaver pond also marks the beginning of the short "whack" on a faint old trail to the main Allen herd path. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!
The Allen to Redfield buschwack I’m sooo looking forward to! It’s been a hike I’ve wanted to do for a while just due it being one of the most difficult in the whole park some say. Can’t wait! Headed to Lake Placid in 3 days maybe I’ll bump into you who knows!?
Jonathan Zaharek Stopped in late afternoon on Saturday, figured you weren’t on duty but worth a shot as I was driving by. One of your coworkers I spoke to seemed to get a kick out of a TH-cam fan stopping in haha.
Great video. Husband and friends are hiking this tomorrow (Aug 2020) so good tips, review of what to expect and clairification of the different trails. Hope it is not as wet as when you went.
Leslie, I Did the Santanonis last week and want to do Allen next week Found a 2020 GPS route on Peakbagger but I don't think he incorporated these new roads. I'm not much for bushwhacking while solo, so I think I'll take the regular route. I'm told the Opalescent bridge is out again so I'll bring water shoes and my microspikes. I hope you had a great hike, would be interested to hear your trip report - especially if you do this new road route.
@@RDJim My son and husband with friends did Allen and it was much better than expected. The stream crossing was fine, they found a path and could keep their shoes on (although they brought light water shoes). They did not need microspikes at the top on 8/8/20 and had a great view. They all remarked it was LONG but very pleasant on the old logging roads and just the last 1.5 miles were straight up. There were 11 other groups that signed in BEFORE they did at 7am but the trail was not crowded for them
Discovered your videos today while sequestered in Salt Lake City. I've only climbed 15 peaks (2 twice). Your videos cut to the chase - no silly intro/introductions. Clear and concise. Sometimes, I'd see a rock wall, dam, or other possible historical objects. I.e. - the dam-like structure on the opalescent??? Pointing out what they are would be GREAT! Otherwise a fun video WITH your phone app, ingenious. What camera do you use? Also-From googling, all I can find is that 'red slime' is an algae that is not uncommon. It is actually a bacteria cyanobacteria. Thanks!
Hey Jonathan Its rowan and I go to the adirondack mountains and I hiked cascade and porter mountain you can meat us at KOA in wilmington NY at the play ground in the summer you can meat us in any year if you want. Nice videos
@@JonathanZaharek hey Jonathan - is the trail you used on AllTrails? I cant seem to locate it - just the standard hike up and the Allen via McIntyre East one. Allen will be my 46th so I would love to follow the same trek you did!
In my experience, Allen Mountain is easier in the winter. One aspect of the hike that the video doesn't capture in detail is the mud. Never hiked a mountain with so much mud and it takes its toll. But in the winter all that is frozen and you fly over it. Also, the steep part at the end is easier because most people have brought spikes/traction with them.

Those beautiful fall colors really stand out, especially the views of the lakes. Thanks Jonathan!

I hiked Allen last Monday I went from the East River Trailhead to Allen to the ADK Lodge

When people talk about the limited views on Allen, its relative to the views on some of the other high peaks. Still not bad but there a better views.

Just did Allen a couple weeks ago! Awesome video man

Hey man, what app are you using for the trail map?

Hey Jonathan. I'm good friends with Mollie and she and I hike together all the time. I'm just curious as to what app you use while you hike.
All Trails!

Anyone know the song at 7:00?
Any plans to do MT Washington?
Maybe this winter!
I'm soo pumped to start hiking in the whites. I'm gonna do the sketchy Huntington ravine trail to get to the Washington summit.

I wonder if this video was helpful in the search for Leo
