  • The windiest hunt Tasman's ever been on took him to a small block in Canterbury, bugger all animals around but we still manage to secure some tasty venison for the freezer.
    Cheers for watching and drop us a like or comment to help to channel out 😁.

    Awesome vid Tasman, you’re a born natural. Not only would I have been scared shitless being out there on my lonesome, but that wind would’ve made my knees buckle!

    Excellent! I've just been watching a clip of some heroic American with a pack baseweight of 14 kg for his manicured track. Double what he usually carries. Not sure of what he would make of the merits of your 2 kg mincer. At least you went slightly ultra-lightweight with no spoon. I've saved on weight by leaving my boot inner soles behind, and another time my burner, while still lugging the gas bottle on a five-day trip. Bet you found your spoon in your pack when you got home. Cheers.

      Hilarious 😂 I'm sure I'll go ultralight one day, but the mincers only 1kg so it'll be coming along for a good few years yet 😂. Ah good thinking, gotta save weight where possible! Haha priceless I've left my innersoles behind too, and funny story, I forgot to take a lighter last time I came to this spot, so I had gas and a cooker but no way to light it 😂 sad, cold noodles and no meat 😭

    Good effort Tasman. There's a big deer farm across the river that would have lots of roaring stags.

    That was a great video Tasman. You looked different, but I have no idea how or why I thought that. Impressive shooting skills given it seems like ages since you've gone hunting. Very brave leaving the tent in that wind, and then "sleeping" through it.

    • @NZWildAdventures
      @NZWildAdventures  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Paul! Hm must've been the wind blowing by face out of proportion 😂. Yes it actually had been far too long, hardly a single hunt all summer! The campsite was great actually, pretty sheltered in that little spot, comparatively anyway 😆

    Good effort and impressive shooting in that wind. I've been up there recently and didn't see much sign either. Guess that's the catch 22 of putting videos on TH-cam - it's pretty easy to work out the spots these days and see where the animals are, so other people go in there. The same has happened to a few other people I know who've posted hunting videos with panoramic views. Good luck for your roar trip - looking forward to seeing that one!

    • @NZWildAdventures
      @NZWildAdventures  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! Makes it quite a bit harder to hold true 😂. Yes I guess that's definitely one drawback, I do tend to try conceal the background a bit when there's higher animal number so people don't flock there 😆, but not so concerned when I don't see much. It's also a smaller block so would be subject to animal movements at different times of year, would be interesting to check it out in the winter.
      Didn't have great luck during the roar, was hoping for a bit of good footage but the only stags I found were just across the river on private 😂 oh well, plenty of winter left 😂

    • @spoonheadmusic
      @spoonheadmusic 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NZWildAdventures I think you're right. The animals do move around those areas a bit - summer heat vs cold winters.
      I guess it's a balance of making inspiring videos, which you do an awesome job of, versus concealing your good spots that are easy hunts close to home. Those deeper more difficult spots will always see less people. Anything that involves lots of crawling through matagouri puts people off I've found 🤣 probably why I usually hunt solo as I don't want to submit friends to that kind of experience haha!
      Shame about the stags being on private land, that's often the way on a lot of river valleys in the South Island and I've experience that a few times. Sometimes making a few hind calls can bring them out of the spot they've claimed, but sometimes they're just too smart!
      Yip still plenty more adventures to be had through the winter! Cheers 🏕🦌
