This was a clip of an hour and a half documentary. This pilot that was actually flying the mission was a Gypsy...hoooya (VF-32 Gypsy Swordsmen). I love the Gypsies.
I know a handful of people who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and they would all agree that civilians do not want to get caught in the crossfire, they run away from a firefight, as far as possible, hell they even know a fight is imminent when they see civvies fleeing. And when your in the cockpit, it boils down to whether you want to help your men or avoid collateral damage. Judging by the reaction from the guys in the firefight, he made the right call
@MyArmalite1 Incorrect. All American fighter aircraft have an onboard 20mm Vulcan Cannon mounted in the fuselage. The US Air Force made a grave mistake in Vietnam, stripping F4s of their guns, and paid the price as Migs shot down F4s in close range where IR and semi radar guided missiles were unreliable. The US Navy retained guns on their fighters during 'Nam and their KD ratio was much higher than the AF. Guns are vital for fur ball engagements at 3000ft or closer.
You got that exactly backwards. I flew Navy F-4s in the '70s - USAF F-4s had guns, we didn't. We had a gun pod we could hang on the centerline and it was worthless, so we never carried it. Our kill ratio was much higher than the AF's, but it was Sidewinders and, to an extent, Sparrows. Training was the difference.
@MyArmalite1 No problems mate. FYI, look up "The Last Gunfighter" in the History Channel's "Dogfights" series. Lessons learnt from 'Nam were quickly translated to improvements in fighter aircraft, including the readoption of guns by the USAF. Hell, the USAF's most potent CAS aircraft (A-10 Warthog) has a gun larger and heavier than the VW Beetle!
@chrismaster7 - I contacted the people who made the movie. They said there is no available sound track of the song and that they had no plans of releasing one. The band is White Pony (if I remember) and the only make music for these types of movies now. Sorry :(
No, i couldnt find it also...but you can record the song with goldwave . You can download it for free. It weird but Pale3 are doing only very limited and exclusive publications for movies and stuff. Ive checked out their website but theres nothing to download there also..
For the munition they fired after the gun run, he says its an air to ground missile, does he mean bomb or did the later tomcats carry mavericks or something?
@swmccrary Fighter aircraft guns are calibrated to 6 MRAD at 1000m or 6 MRAD at 3330ft. This translates to a maximum spread of 6 meters. For a gun firing 3200 RPM thats pretty accurate. As for being in an urban environment. This is war. If you in the wrong place at the wrong time then sad for you but you're going to get it. I'm not being gungho about this, its a simple statement of fact. War will always have collateral damage.
@CuteFunnyVideo Why don't you do a quick Google search on two things: 1. The top five places the US actually gets its oil from 2. The evaluated cost of oil per barrel when accounting military spending to "get" said oil.
@kAmi9teen8y5 yes i completely agree with you, the american education system is bad. and i don't think you've quite noticed the "help other countries" part.
All I can think of is, what if this was in my city? This is an urban environment, there could be a family of a family with children in one of those buildings. I'm not condemning the pilot or ground forces...its just something to think about. I don't imagine machine gun fire from a fighter jet is the most accurate thing ever.
The political situation that led to this happening is terrible. Both sides obviously think they are right or they wouldn't pull the trigger. It's a shame young adults on either side end up dead, death is always a tragedy. War is terrible. That aside, I am happy for those kids that had a metal bird in the sky like this watching out for them and helping them in their moment of terror.
more awesome reddit comment: "Then on top of it, their bombs gotta land somewhere, and regularly we would have a very tense situation where mobs of villagers would surround our tiny patrol base pissed that the bombs landed on homes and bazaars in the sector that we (the infantry) were responsible for, and of course we have to answer to them when the pilots are many kilometers away dry and comfy in their hooches with internet and phones not giving a fuck."
Good to see the old cats getting some before retirement.
SPEED AND ANGELS is an excellent DVD !!!! Must watch. Bought it as soon as it came out.

This dude better have bought DEMO a giant beer after that shit.
What a good job done! Well done.
Woody sent me here. I am glad he did because this is a great video.
Shame we had to retire those planes.
Amazing concentration on his part.
@swmccrary Jets don't use machine guns. They use laser guided Air to Surface missiles. Very accurate. 20 mm cannons are used against other aircraft.
@ferdiflap Also could not find the song anywhere. You can record it? Where? The full song or just the teasingly short clip from this video?

@Sup3rF1uid I stand corrected. I appreciate that, always good to learn knew things.
Darkstar, Judy, Judy. I'm going in for guns. Good job, Sir.
"And there wasn't any more gunfire that came from that building that day."
Hell no, there wasn't.

Good job boys in a bad situation.
the song is "Let the Base" by Propaganda
That's some intense shit.

@pandaman434 Can you elaborate a little bit? None of what you just posted makes sense.
Holy cow man, that's intense
all the kids playing shooters should watch this.
intense stuff
when do they get to the volleyball scene?
For the munition they fired after the gun run, he says its an air to ground missile, does he mean bomb or did the later tomcats carry mavericks or something?

@jeh6421 what an insightful contribution. Let me guess, American? Just do a little reading, you will understand why I feel the way I do.

Ive given up on this song. If anyone have link or whatever, please send!
@kAmi9teen8y5 What else would he mean? He didn't want to fire on his fellow soldiers.
to clarify, that was a great comment from reddit.
@meflyhigh 99 times out of a hundred is a higher frequency than 9 out of 10 (or, to a better scale, 90 times out of 100)
@PhobicPyro I don't recall my comment. Mind telling me what you thought was so offensive with it?
@CuteFunnyVideo Why don't you do a quick Google search on two things:

@pacorod It isn't, that mission was in 2004.

Everywhere from Pale3

@swmccrary Yes but it the lives saved in this case were worth the risk.
