On my 18th birthday I got to see Opeth live. The show was sold out and my Mom went to the venue during sound check earlier in the day and tried to get my albums signed. Martin Mendez and Peter Lindgren asked if we were coming to the show and obviously we weren't because it was sold out. Later that day my Mom blows me away with the best news. They put us on the guest list. I was at the show and Opeth gave me the best gift to commemorate my transition into adulthood. It was incredible. During the show, they were about to play the last song of the set and there was a moment of complete silence between the songs and I screamed out 'Demon Of The Fall', to which the crowd gave a thunderous bellow of approval. They played the last song and stepped off stage for a few minutes. The crowd, without any rest cried out for an encore. The crowd was beginning to show signs of fatigue when finally they came back on stage. Low and behold; my night was complete as they finished the show with 'Demon Of The Fall'. After that, I spent over an hour on their tour bus talking with Peter and Martin. It was a perfect birthday. That was 17 years ago.
I highly recommend the track "When" from this Opeth album. This album is a concept album with each song flowing into the next. "When" is a little longer and more progressive. Would make for an awesome reaction. Thx!
Just one second, and I was left with nothing. Her fragrance still pulsating through damp air. That day came to an end. And she had lost in me, her CREDENCE....

It's a mind blowing ride and I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. Your fans are recommending the best of Opeth and it's just fantastic! When I first was introduced to this band it really ruined a lot of other bands for me for a long long time.
Yeah I agree with that last line lol. Also it’s very easy to recommend great Opeth songs because they are a great band. Especially since almost everything they have done is from Opeth’s prime yrs from MAYH-Ghost Reveries with their best lineup
People listen the music and it’s unbelievable.. people genuinely need to sit and listen Mikael’s voice at he’s peak there’s been nobody better he’s brutal gutteral then drop into a smooth melodic is mind blowing man! Great reaction!
Closure. Wreath. By the pain I see in others. Moonlapse Vertigo. Beneath the Mire. The Garroter. Sorceress. Burden. In mist she was standing. Silhouette.
In 2007, the first time I ever saw Opeth live here in Perth, Australia, the power for the lights in the venue went out for a good 10 minutes just before the encore which was this song - Mikael and co were on stage with working amps and shit, they asked, should we continue anyway? We all screamed YEAH!!! They did! They played *Demon of the Fall* in complete darkness!!! It was so good!!!! 0:39 - that is backwards, so reverse that into and it is a live version of this song's intro!
Opeth was still finding their sound in their first 3 albums, but they still turned out some great tracks. I'd highly recommend checking out The Twilight is My Robe off their first album, Orchid
It sounds as though your implying MorningRise and Orchid are not in their own right masterpieces. I suggest you re-listen to those albums; that sound was a world in itself.
@@XTyrannicalX oh, they're great albums for sure, but outside of a few tracks, they don't hit as hard for me as Blackwater Park-Watershed. To be fair, that has more to do with the mixing than the music itself, they're still good albums and I prefer them to any of the post-Heritage stuff, with the possible exception of Sorceress. Come to think of it, mixing is also the main thing that pulls Sorceress down, so I am being kind of a hypocrite on that one.
Opeth is probably my favourite band (if you put a gun to my head and forced me to choose one) and yeah, I agree with this assessment. Still Life is when Opeth really found their sound and produced a true masterpiece, it's close to perfection from beginning to end. The previous albums are all excellent in their own right but they aren't quite on the same level.

I’d disagree with that. They have plenty more “best songs” to do. When, April Ethereal, Godhead’s Lament, Moonlapse Vertigo, White Cluster, The Funeral Portrait, Face of Melinda, Harvest, Burden, Windowpane, Dirge for November, Closure etc.
This song is the part of the story where the ghost, the main character, is abandoned by his lover and becomes an angry vengeful spirit. I think they nailed that vibe with this one.
its probaby my favourite for a number of reasons, the Opening Vocals are ridiculous. then theres such good breakdowns between the lighter and heavier sections that also switch up the rhythm
MAYH, the album that got me into Opeth sooo many years ago. Funny how I still remember where it was and who played it for me, I tend to have a very lousy memory. After getting this album myself so I really could listen to it, Opeth quickly became my favourite band and still remain in the top spot.
Considering My Arms, Your Hearse was still very early for Opeth, Demons of the Fall remains a fan favourite, and for good reason. It showcased the switch ups between growl and clean singing to perfection, and it had such a murky, dirty atmosphere to it. Even then they were doing things that other metal bands just weren't doing. It was like they were handed the book of how to write music, promptly threw it out of the nearest window, fucked off to live in a dark forest, surviving on hallucinogenic mushrooms and peyote dreams before coming back to a studio with a nonchalant "we have something to show you".

Though I would also recommend Frozen Lakes on Mars, Celestial Violence, and The Barren Lands. Contaminate Me by Leprous (ft. Ihsahn) is also fucking incendiary, you two would love it.
For the angelic side of Mikael’s voice, check out “Benighted” off their 1999 masterpiece album, Still Life (my favorite Opeth album). His voice in this song is silky smooth.

Speaking of the tone on Mikael's voice. He told in an interview once that he had a cold during the recording sessions. That resulted in a very, IMO, satisfying, deep growl on the entire album. My Arms, Your Hearse is one of their best efforts, for sure.
Yeah but the first verse vocals are a lot of layers to create the demon kinda voice. Still a badass performance by one of the best death metal vocalists imo.
You did it finally! This is a must, you had to do this! What about the amen corner from the same record? Actually, maybe it's time for soft opeth. Go for "to bid you farewell". This was the first opeth album I ever heard. I remember getting done with band practice (bass in a metal band) and thinking, there's no reason to play anymore, this everything I've ever wanted to hear and I didn't even know I wanted it.
If you have played or written music you can tell where things are going to go even with the musical geniuses that are tool you can learn their tendencies, opeth write in such a way that multiple directions would work equally that is the genius. The calibre of composition is astounding to the extent of being unpredictable no matter if you have a strong understanding of music, that is why many musicians love them, they can surprise even those who have studied songwriting.
This was so good. Now it's time for Porcupine Tree. Time flies live will blow you away. I also think the time is ripe for Steven Wilson. Try Luminol live in Mexico 😉
Haha I think Dylan was expecting some blasting riff again after that acoustic outro. It continues to the intro of Credence, another good track by opeth

Actually, maybe it's time for soft opeth. Go for "to bid you farewell". For me is like metallica's "fade to black", one of those song so beautifully sad that leave you full of emptiness. Probably my favourite
Hell yeaz!! Keep up the great reactions🤘
Yeah the tone and atmosphere is very unique! I don’t think you have done any reaction of this album yet. I would highly recommend you try “When” next if you want to hear more from that record
Imagine this album if it had the production of blackwater park...also, *Meshuggah- Dancers to a Discordant System* please :) NO ONE has reacted to it yet
That is their most different song! Apart from *i*. I have requested both of these on many reactors over the years and none have played them...yet!
@@Defensive_Wounds Drew fortune has done many Meshuggah reactions including Dancers.
@@mickej84 Oh shit, I forgot about that! Thanks for the reminder! I did comment on that video when it was new thanking him and expressing how long I had tried to get someone to check that song out!
More Opeth soon I hope. Anything will do, but I'd like to see "Moon Above, Sun Below".
Hope you guys do Burden and eventually Wreath as well. 🤞🤘
This was the first opeth album I ever heard. I remember getting done with band practice (bass in a metal band) and thinking, there's no reason to play anymore, this everything I've ever wanted to hear and I didn't even know I wanted it.
Lotus Eater next, for sure!
Amazing track. First time I heard it I must admit.. You should def try Burden by Opeth, it is something different but still beautifull..
Haha I think Dylan was expecting some blasting riff again after that acoustic outro. It continues to the intro of Credence, another good track by opeth
To Bid You Farewell PLEASE GUYS
Vektor recharging the void
Still so much to blow u away...keep the seatbelts for When
