Congratulations and welcome to the world of matrimony! I'm so excited for you too! My husband and I also got married at the courthouse with a couple of friends as witnesses. The day after we got married, we celebrated with a board game day with several of our friends. It was the way to go for us rather than having a huge ceremony. All the very best to you!

My collection is loaded with IP games, but I've definitely become more discerning over the past year with which ones I add, even if I absolutely love the IP. Congratulations again for getting married 😍 Here is a fun story that happend yesterday: While it was easter I was meeting some friends. I was wearing the yellow "Mondays with TinkerThemer"-T-shirt. They gave me a strange look. So I asked them if they don't like the shirt. They thought it was a rabbit on the shirt and therefore completely exaggerated, since in Germany it's a rabbit that brings the easter eggs 🤣 they never even thougt of a kangaroo 🤣such ignorant folks 🤣

The 'more strategic play' options seem helpful, but I'm backing for a nice light puzzle game more for solo or 4+ players. Also love Cat Lady, but Dog Lover looked great so I've recently ordered it too!
What an awesome new opening sentence to your videos. Congrats yet again. I literally just ordered Floririferous a couple of days ago. It looks so pretty and i cant wait to play it. Birds of a feather looks great and i def want to learn more about it. Dog lover will also need to be researched as my daughter is the biggest dog lover of all time, and investing in a dog themed game is way more appealing to me than investing in a real dog. Also thanks for answering my 2 questions. I know exactly what u mean about eating your favourites and favourite places when visiting the states. In the months leading up to our trips back to usa, my husband and i spend hours discussing all the places and specific items we want to visit and try. We def miss the variety and multitudes of options available over there compared to here in Australia.

You asked about our favourite IP i generally don’t like IP’s it reminds me of big companies going with shoes in to our beloved hobby like Marvel or something like that, or a ton of Star Wars or other, it all belong to a big companies and has to be everywhere i don’t like it. I usually prefer unique worlds starting something new and not build in a big corporate moneymaking business. I have one exception i love Battlestar Galactica board game, it’s super hard to get it now it’s out of print and no longer IP available, but the game is spectacular - i love it and hidden traitor reflecting what is in the series - like how you can suddenly in middle of the game become a bad guy.. (sleeping cylon) its so so good. I highly recommend- i know now after so many years they finally were able to make similar game - put all mechanics from BSG and move it in to different world - but again they made Unfathomable set in Cthulhu word and this is another IP what is everywhere and I really don’t like. I’m lucky to have my old copy of BSG.

Thanks for answering my question, it was a bit hard indeed, and I cannot think of an answer myself as boardgames recently is doing a very good job at broadening their theme ! Survivor would be a fun idea, but usually implementation of TV show or series are not great as they rely heavily on fan service... About fruits theme Maggie, I read somewhere that the new Uwe Rosenberg, apparently called Atiwa, will be about farming and attracting bat fruits to create a prosperous community. Not sure anything can top that theme ! Have a wonderful weeek !

Bit late to the party here ... my 12 year old has recently got into board games and I'm following in his footsteps and exploring what's out there. Just discovering the obvious ones - Catan and expansions, Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, Colt Express (the kids love that one!) .... Hoping to go further and look at Azul, Fjords, possibly Scythe (I'm reassured by your video that it's not too warlike - not my thing at all) and Honey Buzz (we keep bees so the theme appeals :-)). My biggest delight, though. has been the abstracts, Hive and Onitama in particular - fast and friendly and they fit easily on the kitchen table before dinner or between other things. Am also tempted to look at Mariposa, Evolution and similar. There's such a lot out there - it's all a bit overwhelming (in a good way :-) ) . I think we'll be exploring nature and history themed games and other 'abstracts' (Shobu and Elements look cool ...!)

As for replies to this episode, I have the game for you both. Fruit for Maggie + Rondel for Amy = Finca. Not heavy as far as rules or gameplay go, but Finca can be a real Thinca. Choosing your moves to maximize fruit collection is not easy. When it comes to IP, my favorite fantasy books are Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. The out-of-print and hard to find Discworld: Ankh-Morpork is my IP game of choice. A good game that becomes great with all the beloved characters on the cards.
I like the idea of a jam making game. You have to acquire all the proper resources for your jam, but be careful...you don't want an imbalance in the recipe or it will turn out too sugary or acidic. The game will have a bag building push your luck element and if you go too far, you end up blowing up your entire supply. The name of the game: Jam Packed.😆 We really enjoy Floriferous. I agree that it's a great game for people who are not heavy gamers because it's easy to teach, plays quickly, and you get to build your own little garden, in a way. Very relaxing. Love the art in this one. One small note: I don't think the "don't say San Fran thing" is an American thing, it's a San Fran 😂thing. I lived in SF twice and know that the Bay Area locals cringe when they hear it, but over here in New York people don't know not to say it. Same for when I lived in other parts of the country. I think I align more with Maggie in getting sucked in by terrific artwork and that I'll try to convince myself that I need the game. OOH! Actually I think expansions are the hardest for me to avoid. When the base game is in my collection, my completionist side comes out and I feel that I MUST have it. I think the Tang Garden's latest expansions were the first that I was able to say no to. IPs in my collection? Unofficially I have Nemesis (Alien) and Terror Below (Tremors). Officially I think the only ones I have are the Star Wars Unlock! games and The Reckoners, based on the book. Generally though IPs don't really excite me much. I used to be a big fan of Doctor Who and always wondered if there'd be a game that would scratch that itch, but they never did.
Congrats! I guess the traditional first anniversary gift is paper? Maybe next year you can get a couple print-and-play games :D Yeah, San Fran sounds weird to me. I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area most of my life. More specifically, I live in the "South Bay" which is somewhat synonymous with "Silicon Valley." We tend to refer to San Francisco as just "The City" or SF. It's interesting to see how others refer to this area :D I haven't played any of those 5 games. I think I'm most drawn to Dog Lover even though I don't have a dog. I like both dogs and cats :)
Maggie said that she liked the Cursed court because you didn't have to tell all those lies to bluff, but to do it with you actions) I completely agree with that! So I highly recommend to try Shamans, I love it for the same reason, it's not so obvious, but you still bluff:) And very late congratulations! 🌿
First, congratulations! With respect to 18xx, I'm in a similar mind frame of intrigued but hesitant. I've been enjoying Iberian Gauge (designed by Amabel Holland with art by Ian O'Toole), which is a cube rails game that hits on many of the same dynamics as an 18xx but plays in about 90 minutes and has only one 2-sided sheet of rules. I recommend it as a sample of that shared incentive mechanism. I'm much more tolerant of mean games when they are short so I think it's valuable to run a test on any group before diving into the longer games.
Also from me congratulations again. You look beautiful in the picture you shared. On IP-games definitely Robinson Crusoe. (Book and several movies.) On a theme I like to see in a game I thought like Wingspan but about Wales, their migration and lives in different Eras, including history of hunting and fight for their recovery and wale songs etc. It should also include science of these mammals and pictures of different species as well as their life circles and different behaviors. A map should be the oceans of the world. Thanks for this Small Talk video.
Have been looking at 6 player games recently, out of necessity, so Cursed Court looks interesting. According to Board Game Oracle it's even available, although not particularly cheap.

On IP-games definitely Robinson Crusoe. (Book and several movies.) On a theme I like to see in a game I thought like Wingspan but about Wales, their migration and lives in different Eras, including history of hunting and fight for their recovery and wale songs etc. It should also include science of these mammals and pictures of different species as well as their life circles and different behaviors. A map should be the oceans of the world.

Have been looking at 6 player games recently, out of necessity, so Cursed Court looks interesting. According to Board Game Oracle it's even available, although not particularly cheap.
