I am lucky enough to have three homes, one in Trinidad, Italy and England. I stay on average 2/3 months in Trinidad, the rest of the time I am in Italy and UK. All countries have danger. Just have to be sensible and careful. Crimes in Europe is far more than Trinidad. Trinidad being a smaller country, the crimes are more widely known.

@@kamkarter8821the carnival season is safe, the police keeps the country safe for those 3 days only so it is safe. It is also made easier to maintain law and order in the Capital since most locals do not participate in Carnival activities and actually avoid it. The festival is now scanty and pales in comparison to the days when a band was 50,000 members to just 2000 or 3000 today. The reason is CRIME. If you live in Trinidad the “carnival alternative “ is where locals spend their money. Flights are overbooked with locals leaving the country for carnival. I have participated in Carnival for over 40 years and I have worked in the industry and I have seen the dwindling support and participation first hand. And don't come with the "don't bad mouth the country" BS! I am tired of this complacency and delusion.
This could be the best country in the Caribbean but we refuse to acknowledge the clear faults. We have educated people, great beaches and good food. We have good music. We have good manufacturing experience. We can be a tourism and industry hot spot. Instead, people are leaving as soon as they can. And that was before the relatively recent spike in home invasions and extortions.

Hey guys, thank you for visiting our lovely Trinidad and next Tobago. Just like any other country, there are good and bad areas. I am so glad that you are enjoying your visit and hope that you will help to show Trinidad & Tobago in a good and positive light. If you visited around one of the holidays, you would have seen a lot more people on the beaches as that is when they mostly frequent them. FYI! There are different types of Roti with the most popular being Dhal puri and paratha, and the level of spiciness depends on what you request. If you ask for slight or heavy pepper, then that is what you will get. The same for doubles. The sweet stuff you taste is most likely mango chutney or tamarind sauce. You can also add shredded cucumber which is usually also spicy. The bread you had with your bake and shark is called fried bake which is another of our specialties. You should visit next time around Christmas so that you can experience some of our wonderful traditional Christmas foods like black cake and punch de creme. You won't regret it. Then there is Carnival. Now that would be an amazing experience.

Thank you so much for visiting my country. Am happy you all are enjoying your trip. Yes sometimes I could be a little intimidating with the stupidness that they do. I have migrated over thirty years. I love my country sooooo much 3/4 times a year I return. You must also try the Buss up shot Roti it’s amazing and delicious. Please enjoy Tobago and have a crab 🦀 and dumplings.

For the doubles, it is the choice of sauces/ chutney that gives the sweet flavour! Yes tamarind or mango sauce.

Thank you for visiting my lovely country 🇹🇹. Yes there is crime, as there is in countries, there areas you do not go, even for a local but it's more or less safe, no one bothers you. The sand flies are there because those beaches are literally backed by the mountains and forest vegetation, whilst Maracas has some distance from the vegetation. Wish you guys had time to visit Chaguanas and South Trinidad. That DJI camera looks great, definitely looking into getting one. One other thing when ordering/buying food here you need to tell them how much pepper/spice you want, heavy, medium or slight.

Welcome to my sweeet sweet Trinidad. The "bread" with your shark & fish sandwiches, is called fried bake. I'm born(in the south here called San
Fernando). And even further south- in a small town called La Brea- is the world's largest source of asphalt(also called pitch or tar) used to pave roads worldwide. And our world famous music is calypso or kaiso & soca. Trinidad has invented the only new instrument of the 20 & 21st centuries. Thanks for visiting. God bless you & keep you safe🙏🏾➕️😍💕🙋🏽‍♀️🇹🇹

They probably didn't give you trinidadian pepper sauce to make your Roti Spicy hot because they must have thought you all couldn't handle the heat.
But you need to have it with pepper sauce or kuchela. Amchar/Anchar as well.
Also, your Bake and shark was missing all the different sauces to go with it. Those condiments elevate the flavour tremendously.
You need to tour Trinidad with a local who will take you to the best places, especially for food.

Spicy /Pepper - You have to request the pepper and different condiment/ingredients for Roti and Doubles:
Pepper: No Pepper, Slight Pepper, Medium, Heavy Pepper
    Doubles Sauces/ Chtuneys
Roti - Anchar (Sweet/peppery curried green mango), Kuchella (shredded green sour fruit, preserved in oil pepper maslal)
You need to ask what extras they have. Its the same with Shark and Bake - the condiments make alot of difference.
