      @@likeasoldier What's an alternative price model then? They charge 1 price no matter the value of the card? That number would be much more than the current cost for cheap cards making them not worth grading. Probably would have to be at least $30 a card, probably closer to $40 or $50. Then they would make less money and people would never be able to get cheaper cards graded.

    I heard "there may be" and "could get a away with"... PSA is very subjective. This is why HGA now exists. The owner had over 30 9's from PSA... He broke them open, resubmitted... And got back 20 10's. Looking forward to HGA becoming a bigger force in the market.

    From a collector standpoint, I would buy nice 9's instead of 10's, because there is so little difference in quality between a nice 9 and a 10 that we generally can't see the difference without magnification or tilting the card at an angle under a bright light. :)

    • @ojiang86
      @ojiang86 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, also especially with modern cards the difference between a 9 and 10 depends on how the grader feels that day. That's why I'm looking forward to AI graders like AGS becoming more popular.

    I suspect that the grading companies 'grade' the submitter before they grade the card. Dealers get 10's and individuals get 9's. That keeps the collectors going to the dealers and makes the hobby stronger by supporting the dealers.

      I only have 30 years or so experience. Probably more like ‘pickled’ than than salty. The graded card market runs like an MLM. There will always be more people at the bottom with slabbed cards that they have more invested in than the card will ever be worth. You can’t beat the house, but it is fun to play.

    The fact that you are both still guessing on what the flaws are screams for a need for subjectivity, consistency, and transparency. I think PSA is watering down the value of 10s because they seem to give so many. Still curious your thoughts on HGA and the idea of technology to grade?

    • @steamingpanda2.177
      @steamingpanda2.177 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah. Nothing wrong with humans grading. Worked for years. HGA just gives every card a 9.5 lol A.I. too harsh on centering IMO.
      They showed that the corners and centering play a big role in why some didn’t gem mint. Problem with a lot of chrome cards, especially Panini ones, is surface damage/print lines. Basically impossible to check surface issue of a card in a slab. Since the surface of the slab itself has scratches.

    You should take high rez photos of your cards b4 sending them in because what if it was a PSA grader that put corner marks on those cards? They're human and handle them outside of their cases so I'm sure they've caused damage themselves sometimes. I've even seen them catch them inside the bottom stoppers of the slab putting a crease in them. So they're a 10 but now have a crease but they still send them back. PSA has been getting some really bad reputation these last few months with some truly insulting grades with ppl breaking out 4s and 5s of amazing looking card with no surface defects and sending them to other really tough companies and getting 8s and 9.5s back. They REALLY need to get their act together as a lot of people are losing faith in them.

    Geoff, when you say you didn't do a good enough job checking them, when they get a PSA 9. Do you mean you wouldn't have submitted them if you believed they'd grade a 9?
    Isn't there still value in a PSA 9?

      This man does not care about his consumers bro. Do your own research and you will be MUCH better off. This whole account is a version of the pyramid scheme. Have you ever noticed how Geoff always tell you his investments strategies after the time period has already passed to use them??? Or have you noticed that he tells his whole channel of thousands of people who he is investing in solely because he’s going to make money off of his viewers buying those same investments. This man is a joke and this channel is the definition of cringe.

    Today’s cards are too easy to get 10’s. That’s what made the 80’s and 90’s so much fun. It was tough to find a PSA 10.

    Geoff, great video - one question regarding PSA for which I haven’t gotten a consistent answer to - and have had inconsistent grading results: does the presence of a hologram/sticker on the back of the card (ie Steiner, Fanatics, PsA, Beckett Witnessed or the player’s own respective company) impact the card’s grade? For several months PSA said it would not and I received many 9’s to back that up on vintage cards. In the last couple months the story changed and was told it would dock by a numeric grade and my last batch of cards reflect that too (unfortunately all 8’s). Any insight or thoughts from your PSA experience?

    Rookie mistake, if you are going to send in cards for grading get at least a 5X loupe. If you can see
    it`s not centered do not send it. Also I guess Panini cards are your thing for BB, as I didn`t see any other brand.
    I have not used grading services in 10 years. Price of boxes are extreme and all the companies have "insert" cards.

    I have a question about putting cards in top loaders before grading. 10 years ago I got some graded from psa and just put them in card savers and that's all they wanted them to be in. Now I see people are putting them in soft sleeves first. I thought psa literally cut the edges of the top loader to get the cards out. It seems to me a bigger chance for damage putting them in soft sleeves first. Any opinion is welcome.
