    All guitars videos should be like this : rythm playing, no useless noodling. Incredibly enough we get some clean tone, which is uncommon for les paul videos.
    100 thumbs up for the professionalism

    I used to write off P90’s as “just single coils”. Then I bought an SG Special and now it’s my #1 gigging guitar.

    turns out the sound i've been hunting for for my punk stuff just happens to be the p90 sound

    I've been playing a '69 Goldtop with P90s since '73. Straight into the amp.

    This video totally nails it, the question of which to choose from both: no matter where you come to play your humbucker-LP, the engineer tries to compress and mix your HBs to sound like P90s. All guitarists want low end, but the P90s cut through every mix with a lot more aggression (even with a lot lower OD) - peace & love ❤

      Yessir, Ive always found it to be fact that the brighter your guitar, the better it will sit in a mix. Also, bright guitar -> dark amp sounds better than dark guitar -> bright amp.

    The only difference that really matters is that good P90s will clean up to a nice sparkling tone when you roll off the guitar volume, and humbuckers will not, and that’s a huge difference for dynamic players. I think I actually prefer the sound of Humbuckers wide open, but their lack of cleanup ability makes me have to play humbucker guitars completely differently than I would single coils.

      I don’t know enough about pickups but my epiphone has coil splitting. Wouldn’t that help clean it up if you pull it and turn the volume down in the guitar? Guessing it’s not the exact sound but maybe similar?

    • @darwinsaye
      @darwinsaye 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bradleyjpaolucci It absolutely would. The amount of bass and midrange paired with their higher general output, makes humbuckers really difficult to get them to clean up the signal by rolling off the guitar volume. With single coils, or coil split humbuckers which are actually just single coils when split, there is a lot less low end frequency content, so when you roll off volume, it cleans up much more easily.

    I basically have the same set up as you do here, Orange OR15 a rat and a Life Pedal V2 and a Les Paul Special DC. The mix of P90, Orange and Rat is such an amazing and simple tone and in this demo came out perfectly displayed.

    A solid A/B demo of identically similar LPs. No one could deny the rock prowess of either pickup sets, but I feel that the HH offers a broader palette of tone. The HH can be eq’d via amp and/or pedals into the tighter scooped P90 bite, but P90s can’t be warmed or fattened to reach the breadth of hum-buckers. My spin anyway. I have the ‘57 Gold top (dark back) reissue, so found your comparison interesting . Thanks, Jf (Canada)

      @Ledzepfan88 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't be warmed? Neck pickup, and tone control, or change where you pick. Closer to the bridges is always brighter hence why the pickup placement sounds different because of where they're picking up vibration from that particular point on the strings.

      Hey Jeff, I have the same or similar reissue: 2008 Custom Shop '57 Golf Top Reissue , VOS, Humbuckers, Baseball bat neck, dark back. I get killer tone out my Handwired AC-30 ( Serial #95) With Greenbacks. But I loved my Peerless Epiphone Casino, which I sold years ago.
      Would you mind going over some the EQ settings and pedals that add that p-90 bite to your humbuckers? Also, I'm curious to know what amp you run your '57 through.
      With gratitude,
      Marshall

    The 50's standard gold top p-90 is 'the' LP that i want haha... I have nice PRS with HH and a nice Strat with SSS so a nice Lp with p-90's would round out the tonal pallet nicely...

    Well done. I have p90 set up with LP style controls. Also got a tele with a hb in the neck. I love em, but sometimes I'm wanting that classic Page, Allman Bros, GnR style tone in the bridge. Think I'll go full hb in my next build.

    Maybe this comment does not suit the topic
    But that vibe you get when playing that Gibson together with the background of those old tv/monitors and light,.. It build a typ of vibe and that’s a great vibe!
    Ps I love the gold top with P90’s

    Great demo. Can't deny this illustrates the A/B comparison without extemporaneous factors coloring the sound of one or the other Pup.
    My humble impression here: The HB's sound much like hundreds of artists recording - harmonically rich, consistent and pleasantly compressed. The P90's on the other hand are growly and wooly, maybe less versatile but distinct and unpredictable. I thought the 90's did cleans on the Volante at the end beautifully. I'd probable reach for the 90's and not put it down until I was kicked out of the studio.
    Sweet playing btw.

    I have a LP studio with 490R+490T, a LP Standard 50's with Burstbucker plus a LP Gold Top Standard 50's with p90...what can I say? 3 different tones and mood sounds...I love them! It's just a shame about the amount of Gibson price during these years...I've bought the studio in 2020 for 1.200 €. Now is 1600.....! The Standard in 2021 for € 2199, now is 2799 bucks! It's a shame...
    The latest LP Gold Top with P90 for 2759 € (2999, ok 3000 bucks if you want to buy it with Thomann)
    Don't make a fool of me!

    This proves we all have our own opinions. I’d personally swap out both pick up sets. Both samples are just ok.

    On the first riff its like the p90 had some harsh noise in there, but the following ones they sounded more lively? With youtube I never know if its the audio or just my ears are sh*t. Anyway thanks for the demo!

  • @snailsfrogslegs119
    @snailsfrogslegs119 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Using an EQ pedal, I could make either one sound like the other. The humbuckers have more sustain and are noiseless; so IMHO they are the winner every time.

    EITHER WAY YOU NEED 5 GUITAR THIS IS TWO OF THEM THAT YOU NEED , THERE NO VS DIFF TONES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS OR FOR DIFFERENT TONES, YOU NEED AT LEAse 5 and one of them need to be a tele!!! and one guitar with active pick up like 81s

    What this demonstrates is that each has their own use. Example, playing Ramble On with P90's just doesn't work, just doesn't sound right, for me anyway, but do they ever shine on Ten Years Gone! HB's just cannot growl like P90's, they can get absolutely filthy! HB's seem to have that darker tone, generally i would say more suited to minors than P90's. Just my thoughts, the way i hear them, so the answer is have both!😊
