Very informative, thanks for sharing. The "Saargebiet" was of some importance for the French government after WW I because it was, besides the Ruhr area and Upper Silesia, the most important German industrial region with a lot of coal mines. Greets from GER, U.

Interesting history and stamps of the Saargebiet and the gas explosion at Neunkirchen. What a disaster! Thanks for the great video, Ted, despite being thrown to and through by the digital dilemma! I hope everything work out well in Houston. I am sure at some stage things will fall in place. It is unbelievable that largely bureaucracy, I presume, can be so powerful as to be actually against common sense! Take care!

Thanks, Charnie. As I write this, we are sitting in the lobby of the visa application center for Portugal, in Houston, waiting for the office to open. After we turn in our applications, it will take 60 days or more to get approval. At least we don’t have to worry about running out of time and having to leave America. 😄

😄At least your feet have a hollow. Wow again! 60 days. The turn over times are just unbelievable! @@tedtalksstamps

Really interesting. I'm just getting into collecting Germany, and found some stamps from Saargebiet in my possession just a couple of hours ago.

Enjoyed the informative history of the Neunkirchen Disaster of 1933. Let us know where you settle in Europe. First, I thought Germany now I wonder if you are going to Portugal for an extended stay. Guess it all depends on the official paperwork. Good Luck!

If we make it to Portugal, we will stay as long as possible. We’ve had 2 visits there in the past year and love the country.

In Episode 98 - Update from Germany, I talk about the difficulties getting an Anmeldung appointment and a residence permit. Long story short: we ran out of time before we could register and we had to leave the EU. We are now working on getting a visa for Portugal.
