Is your belt tight? Are your pulleys in line? Does your belt need to be replaced because it is worn and torn? This video explains how to change your belt if you need to replace it. Make sure the belt is made for boat lifts. The teeth for these belts are deeper than most regular belts
What keeps the big main gear / cable from going down (unwinding) when the belt is off?
It's a worm drive gear. They will hold in place on their own. You can use a small rope to tie off the large drive wheel for extra caution.
