10:40 The reason they were motorised, is because people at the time understood that AT guns had a distinct disadvantage when fighting against tanks- they needed to be spread out around the entire unit/guarding an entire area, while enemy tank formation would only attack from 1 side- and if they were attacking from multiple sides it probably meant there were more of them so AT's were screwed either way. To combat it all major powers (and even minor ones like Poland) were trying to make weapons capable of destroying enemy tanks as mobile and as manoeuvrable as possible. Hence why all early-war AT guns were small enough that the gun's crew, of 3-5 people, could tow them and reposition without any problem. Britain on top of that mounted their AT gun (2 pounder) on a rotating chassis, allowing it to respond to attack from any angle at a moments notice. This is also why AT rifles were so popular- Soviet PTRS, British "Boys", and Polish "Ur"- the last of which was mostly given to cavalry units, again, to make it as mobile and manoeuvrable as possible, go one step above that and you have a Toyota Hilux with RPG's. Motorisation of AT guns being important is even represented in HOI IV- once you research the 2nd AT gun you get additional 10% piercing and 10% hard attack, specifically for motorised AT artillery, on top of all other piercing bonuses from the intermediate techs.

German inf divs had motorised to allow quick deployment to defend against enemy armour. This allowed flexible defence which was a key German defensive doctrine.
Props to you for learning the tactical symbols. Niehorster is an invaluable source. Speaking of historical divisions, I have checked Niehorster on independent or corps/army level battalions (artillery mainly, but also Flak and other stuff) and I figure that a historical German division should have 4 arty battalions (or 3 regular+1 heavy or Nebelwerfer) and all armoured/motorized/SS get their own AA, plus a third of the line divisions (as AA was manned by the Luftwaffe mostly and "lent" to the Heer) and mostly at Schwerpunkten. Oh boy, infantry divisions had 3 companies of horse limber/towed AT guns in the infantry regiments and 1 battalion of 3 companies in a motorized divisional AT battalion. The reason for that redundancy was that a) every regiment was able to immediately react to armour in its area and b) Division could reinforce any enemy massed armour by swiftly sending the motorized AT battalion. It was just a really, really long cannon, longer than railroad guns, basically built into an underground base. And it was multi-charge. The shell gets launched by an initial charge like any other sort of cannon, but instead of only having that initial charge provide all the force, there were spots along the barrel where additional explosive charges or even rocket boosters would basically be set-off, adding even more force and propellent behind the shell to speed it up even more as it travelled the length of the barrel, and allowing it to (very inaccurately) hit targets over 100 miles away

Honestly I’m glad they have nuclear breakthroughs locked behind research because otherwise I think it would turn the mid game into a nuke game. And nuke games are just miserable slog for everyone.
It seems like they massively nerfed Germany and added overly complicated new mechanics that constantly need to be tracked alongside countless others, which isn’t good. I can’t believe they removed the MEFO buffs and replaced them with nerfs. These buffs were essential for Germany's growth in historical playthroughs. Hjalmar no longer provides bonuses for civilian factory or refinery construction speed. On top of that, the free trade buffs are gone, Germany starts with lower party popularity, and early Anschluss is no longer possible. To make matters worse, they’ve added a -15% supply efficiency penalty.
Germany is and always will remain quite OP. Look how much buffs the inner circle gives you, in comparison with what is offered if you play as the USSR.
Germany was ridicolously OP before though. And it makes sense that the MEFO is a bit of a debuff, as in reality Germany was financing its re-armament with basically nothing really.
going for plan z instead of trade interdiction seems pretty unhistorical to me, that is just one of the many non historical choices in this video but nobody is perfect tbh
18:20 It didn't have sloped armour for the same reason why none of the modern MBT's have sloped armour either- it's actually not that good of an idea. To make the slope big enough to actually make an impact, you need to rob inside of the tank from so much space, space needed for the crew to operate, that whatever marginal gain in survivability you get, you lose twice as much in overall tank combat effectiveness, from the crew not being able to actually do their jobs. OR, you have to make the tank very very big and therefore make it easier to hit... (like with M3 Lee and Sherman that are insanely tall when compared to *any other medium tank from ww2* same with panther and King Tiger tanks- both of which were absolute behemoths within their respective "classes" Panther being as big and as heavy as some Allied Heavy tanks- like M26 Pershing and Soviet IS-2 (that also had sloped armour- but there Soviets used the aforementioned tactic of "Oh, the tanks are too small inside, because of sloped armour? Just man them with twinks and midgets)) And historically most tank engagements are won by whomever fires the first shot- this is why Panther was the worst german tank of ww2, and why Shermans would've been a death-trap, if they weren't also made by Gods of Engineering that gave every crew member their own evacuation hatch, and, after an initial period and a few complaints, wet ammo storage.
That's a common misunderstanding. Initially, SS troops proved to be ineffective, incurring more losses than the army troops. The foreign and later draftee divisions also were not exceptional. The first 3 (LSSAH, Reich, Totenkopf) were equipped lavishly from 1943 onwards, with organic heavy tank battalion, extra infantry regiment, organic AA and rocket launcher battalions, but any army or Luftwaffe divisions with that equipment (looking at you, Großdeutschland and Hermann Göring) were at the same level. No reason to make SS troops intrinsically better. They weren't
@@MrZauberelefant That is modern cope that is easily debunked by looking at reality. Waffen SS divisions consistently overperformed. There were many on the Eastern Front that didn't even have any anti tank weapons, just ground down to purely infantry forces that still managed to hold positions for weeks longer than they should have been able to. Despite being put in the thick of combat constantly, their morale was until the very end consistently far higher than the morale of regular Heer units. You can find endless examples of both. It's simply ridiculous to claim otherwise.

@@piercebunge4297 obly the historical branch tho
@@piercebunge4297 thanks 😸
How did you not know Bormann was last not first? It gives you a clue with him & Hess being mutually exclusive.
"My economy of conquest has reached 100% and so my economy has collapsed"
Did...did you not see there is a focus to deal with that?
I never actually fulfilled Austria weirdly enough! Think I’m dumb :/
You should also do Historical divisions as Belgium or Belgium Congo
7:35 That is different than the one Austria gets which says its based on the popularity of fascism in Austria, although maybe they're the same thing but the tooltip is reversed for some reason? Or maybe it's path specific for Austria?
New challenge can you win as Germany but you can only use a division template once
The Generalgouvernement was ruled by a German, Hans Frank. Boleslaw Piasecki during the German occupation, was part of the resistance movement. I know it's not very important in the context of the game, but you didn't choose the historical option. Greetings from Poland :)
btw isn't the elefant supposed to have petrol-eletric drive?
Yes
YES I totally forgot about that!
Lessgo!
Bros got the neo transatlantic accent
I don't know if it's just me, but I literally played sub only with Germany and I got Navy supremacy in around a year because GP ran out of oil
Yeah subs are STRONG still, especially Subs 3
has the new dlc not been implemented into black ice yet?
Not yet I believe :(
I live for historical div vids
My maaaan
Okay so if I want to play a completely historically accurate Germany… where do I find the necessary information to do so in a compilation?
Hey! So I typically post all sources and info on patreon and in a community post for YT members, as a way of giving back to those that support me.
However, searching “German infantry division organisation 1938” is a great way to get started! And the site niehorster is brilliant for all sources
I am curious if historical Canadian divisions are possible in HOI4.
I have found some sources! So it's on its way at some point :)
@ awesome! Hopefully you can recreate the famous Royal Canadian Rifles!
Trying to survive against Germany as Austria with only hist. divisions next?
Anyone got an idea when blackice will have adapted the new dlc?
Somehow I can’t push the soviets in this new update. They are an absolute wall impossible to push, how did you do it through battleplanning?
CAS is king
Idk if it was my game but the AI seems kinda bricked in the new update. I invaded the us and despite having like 400 divisions they just didn’t put any troops on the frontline I made the entire war.
Oh weird! The Uk is DEFINITELY a lot better at defending itself now though
@ I did notice a significant uptick in divisions in the home island
Can you make a Detailed Guide on how to form the Austro-Hungarian empire as Hungary I'm new to this game and no matter how much I change the games rules I can never get it to work and would like to see how a proper player can do it in this new update
Well Im curious as to how you could fail that lol
Again, new at the game so something usually goes wrong for me
7:25 So it is real
EU4 players having a heart attack at 44:40
video idea your still use the historical divsion but you get use one wonder weapon for one group. so the wonder arty you place it in one divsion, which you can make your way but they are the only divsion you can use. no other gorup is allowed the wonder weapon. So the heavy arty for support only that divsion can use no main tanks get have wonder weapon tank but you can make once if it gone you can't make other tank divsion.
I don't have the collaboration dlc ...so now I have to go half way through Russia with a economy that breaks when someone touches it to hard and a AI that is on steroids and I have to save Italy from its own stupidity.... sometimes I ask myself why I play this game...
You don't have to do four year plan btw
Oh Christ that would be agony xD
Day 1 of asking for End of a new Beginning historicaly acurate Austria
Can you play bulgaria ww1 and reform the Byzantine empire and if possible historic division
I got new dlc for free for some reason I wanted to buy it when I get a job
19:18 it was designed 50 years after the war for a video game. So it's not even real
The Lowe was in fact a blueprint tank it is the reason why the Maus is called the Panzer 8
you have the panzer 1 through Panzer 4
panther was the panzer 5
tiger was panzer 6
tiger 2 was simply panzer 6 auf B
lowe was Panzer 7 never built
leaving Maus as panzer 8
although world of tanks has many fake fictional tank designes for exsample waffentrager auf E-100 the lowe is not one of them
I have never and will never do free trade
But that extra construction speed and factory output! It’s so tastu
Can you make a video where you try to make the most german designs for divisions, weapons, and vehicles?
Define "Most german?" :D
@@Aldrahill Firepower, “efficient”, “practical”, Quality over quantity.
Romania was promised lands from the Soviet Union as compensation for their lost lands to Hungary and for joining the war against said Soviets. -_-
TLDR; Poor Romania.....
Honestly I’m glad they have nuclear breakthroughs locked behind research because otherwise I think it would turn the mid game into a nuke game. And nuke games are just miserable slog for everyone.
I agree I think it’s a good change :)
Norway when? Or have I missed it?
30:42
Shouldn't you have had Hess until he flew to England to promote peace?
Bormann after that.
You are sadly correct :( ima dumb dumb
I really hat how you pronounce Löwe lol.
bolesłąw piasecki shouldnt be there if youre going historical , hans frank
going for plan z instead of trade interdiction seems pretty unhistorical to me, that is just one of the many non historical choices in this video but nobody is perfect tbh
He missed so many other reichskommriats (I know it’s not right but I don’t want to check)
Just an fyi dude, IG Farben is pronounced “EE GAY Farben”, not “igg”.
Ahhh the more you know, thanks :)
You took all the land of Ostland, no!!!
Bro gets the dlc that encourages you to do a non historical Germany and plays Germany completely historical🙄
I know but I love the historical sources :( I’m doing alt history going forward though :)
Im very happy to know that and I think it would be pretty cool to see Cold War historical division as now the new dlc has Cold War era techs👍
Just man them with twinks and midgets))
And historically most tank engagements are won by whomever fires the first shot- this is why Panther was the worst german tank of ww2, and why Shermans would've been a death-trap, if they weren't also made by Gods of Engineering that gave every crew member their own evacuation hatch, and, after an initial period and a few complaints, wet ammo storage.
It is also the main reason why the T-34 sucks balls. The interior is incredibly cramped and half of them don't even have proper seats.
Aldra it's pronounced "ee-gay Farben". InteressenGemeinschaft Farben.

Why did they make the SS divisions so weak 😢, irl they were some of, if not the strongest divisions in the German forces during WW2
Commenter below me is absolutely right, ss were shit, excepting the special panzer bois that Hitler gave tons of equipment too
@@MrZauberelefant That is modern cope that is easily debunked by looking at reality.
Finally, an expansion focused on the good guys of WW2.
You play historically and give local in Poland? OMG, the general gubernia was one of the worst places in the world to be under the terror of Hans Frank... btw Gdańsk is empty because historically there were few Poles there. And the Poles cannot put a division there in the game until you declare war. Unless they do other goals
Yeah easily top ten miserable places to be in history! And thanks, good point!
Man HoI4 has really turned to shit.
I know dude, the base game was tremendous, so were all dlcs up to man the guns. The new stuff just keeps adding more micro.
I have over 3k hours and i can't play it at all anymore.
@@billybob6256 Same. It's gotten so tedious.
This is a theme with all WWII games now (even WWI for the most part). Instead of fixing broken systems or things that don't make sense, the emphasis is on adding more seethecope.
@@billybob6256 The direction most WWII games are going, I don't see anyone playing who wants more than just a botstomp as the Allies.
@@gratefulguy4130 I don't need 300 menus with micro, make the Ai good and the game is perfect

Correct. That's how influencer marketing works
