Toph and Zuko were both still incredibly impressive for their age (around their 80s). They were much older than Iroh who was in his 50s during TLA. Bumi is the most impressive here, at 112 years of age, but he's kind of an outlier since we haven't seen anyone else reach that age apart from Kiyoshi, who learnt the secret to immortality. Aged down to their 50s as well, I could definitely see the Gaang fairing as well as Iroh did during that age.
I think what he means , remember the saying hard times make strong men , I think what the guy met since they were in times of war they were always fighting and always active , continuous exercise actually helps in slowing your aging process , have u never heard ppl saying that our generation is growing weak bc thing are too easy compared to back then

In fairness to Zuko he was fighting at night in the north pole as a firebender. Didn't work out well for him when he tried that when he was young either.
Did you see Iroh fighting Zhao and his army in the North Pole at Night. He was a force to be reckon with. But at the same time Iroh was way younger compared to Zuko in LOK. But I still like to believe Zuko even at his prime wasn’t as strong as Iroh.

Also iroh most probably had learned the original fire bending style from the dragons, making him significantly more powerful than zuko when he's in the north pole
@@Noctem_pasa every bender can, even a nonbender. That has been proven by that Indian Guru Aang met. Earthbenders just know the secret ingredient to longevity which you would know if you read the Kyoshi books. Very recommendable btw.
A couple things. 1. Uncle Iroh was in his late 50s to early 60s in ATLA 2. Zuko was in his late 80s to early 90s in LOK 3. Aang died at the biological age of 66 because the years frozen in the avatar state took a toll on his body 4. Gran gran was in her 80s and lived her youth during war time. Times of stress take a significant toll on your body and INCREASE aging. Wolf cove was reduced to a tiny village with limited resources and she watched the fire nation completely decimate her people. She new Hama and watched Hama get taken away along with every other water bender in her tribe. She went through a genocide of sorts. Gran gran definitely didn't live during peace time. 5. Master Paku lived in the northern water tribe that not only thrived during the 100 years time but was a complete nation with resources and a sense of safety. Even though he was around the same age as Gran gran, his living conditions were significantly better than hers. 6. Katara and Toph were were 12-16 years old fighting a war against a nation that had essentially taken over the world. They faced near death plenty of times and lived under constant stress. They slept outside in the elements, frequently had to move around, and scrounge up enough resources to keep themselves fed. That's not peace. 7. King Bumi is an anomaly, he attributes his old age to healthy eating but we don't actually know how he lived so long. Outside of guru Pathik or avatar Kyoshi, it's not common to see people that old and even less common to see them thriving at that age.
@Harthelos04 Bumi's only wise and strong when he has to be. Otherwise, my mans chillin with Flopsy nibblin on rock candy and being straight goofy and having fun. Keeping your mind and body at rest while enjoying life helps you feel like a kid and thus it would not surprise me if Bumi died either of sickness or just chose to rest aeeing the end of the war and playing with aang a bit more. Granted, yes, the body does deteriorate but with healthy mind, body, and spirit it can last a very long time
And Bumi was older than both of them during that exact same time period. Remember Bumi was still alive before Aang was frozen and despite being over 100 years old he truly was the Most Powerful Earthbender we'd ever seen.

Lu Ten seems to be about 20 when he died, and Zuko was 9 when that happened. I agree that Ozai seems late 30’s/early 40’s. So Iroh would probably be around 11 or so years older. Mid fifties seems about right.
As many others have pointed out, not only was Iroh only in his 50s while Zuko was 80, Iroh was using the power he got from Sozin's comet in order to take back Ba Sing Se whereas Zuko was able to firebend in the snow when he was barely able to do that much when he kidnapped Aang in the seige of the North

King Bumi is the only one who aged like fine wine. Aang died when team avatar was like 50 or 60. Korra is 17 in the first season. Katara was in her 80s in the first episode. They didn't age like milk, they aged like people who weren't King Bumi. Zuko was at least 90 by the time they got to his fight with the youngsters. Bumi was waiting for his friend, had gone completely insane and was probably directly related to Kioshi (nephew or cousin) the oldest living person.
Yeaa bumi is the only one being in strange good physical health while completely loosing his mental capacities. Team Aang all had reduced physical abilities but kept their mental abilities
I was talkin to my dad abt this last week, he was tellin me that I have my whole life ahead of me. he's abt to retire at 60, and he was tellin me (20) that in 40 years when I retire, I'll still have 40 more years of life ahead of me, if I quit smoking and drinkin and doin drugs, but that's beside the point, those old men still lived for probably 20 to 40 more years after the war

what he learn from kyoshi is also that earth bender can live longer then any other bender if they want to. As earth bending hold the key to immortality.

I say that's pretty much accurate. When you're living through times of war you wanna stay in physical shape. After the 100 year war team avatar focused their efforts to build a peaceful society and prepare future generations to protect it after they were gone.
You do know that's not true. After years of war they had to deal with rebels and rouges left and right. Katara and Toph had life full of fight AND a ton of duties to fulfil- being the head of tribe/clan, being full time single mother, are just a part of it. Sokka didn't have had it easy nor did Aang. Well Sokka and Aang passed away earlier from such burden. Katara and Toph managed to reach their 80's or more. Still keeping an eye on their children and people. They still can fight but every body age and has limitations. In opposition we have set an example of Zuko, Bumi and Paku - privileged man who lived in palace, had armies to fight their fights and servants so they really could focus on maintaining their bodies. Do you realise how much difference does it make? Unearthy. Also the "girls" had to fight centuries of sexism in their time as we see world has changed since Aangs times. When Katara arrived to the Northern Water Tribe the law forbode even teaching waterbending to girls, they were given as wifes without taking their will under consideration- in legend of Korra we have well educated co-inheriting bender Eska - a great representation of new rules (even if a bit weird as a person) if we compare her to Yue. Toph had it similar - girls couldn't fight, they were to be married to a well situated man and give them babies. Toph had none of that. But fight prejudice and sexism is draining as well. Think about the entire picture, not only Naruto style black and white ( by the way the tv show is also sexist af). Now go and rethink your values and make right in your duties to you mother and/or wife. They really don't like to take your loundry from under the bed or clean your dirty dishes. Really.

I think they mean in terms of capabilities. For example: Katara, Toph, and Zuko are still in their double digits and Toph is the only one who can claim that she's still close to peak form. Though she also has the benefit of quite possibly being the greatest human earth bender to ever live. Compare this to Bumi who was still able to single handedly take back an entire city in less than 8 minutes at a whopping 112. The remaining members of Aang's Team might not even LIVE that long. Let alone be combat ready at such an age.

They didn't age like milk, they just aged. Both Bumi and Iroh spent a lot of time in neutral Jing right before the last battle. Iroh was also very into self care.
They were also significantly older than Iroh was in ATLA. Iroh was in his 50's, while the old team Avatar was getting to 90. And while Toph may have back pain, Katara slowed down and Zuko got beaten down, Toph was still able to face Kuvira and come out unscathed. Katara is still regarded as one of the most powerful waterbenders around. Zuko went into his big fight with every disadvantage with people who would totally kill him if given the chance and still put up a good fight. Iroh had his younger age and the fact he was a fire bender during Sozin's Comet. Jong Jong was in a similar situation. So all things considered Zuko is impressive for putting up such a fight in a place and time that by design suppresses fire bending. Piandau was probably the youngest of them all tbh and we know he practiced daily, and with Sokka dead or MIA in the show we cNt compare them. Bumi is a beast and a master of neutral Jing, and while old and having back pain Toph is literally living in a swamp, alone at her age and apparently thriving. Paku was a renowned waterbending master who specialized in the physical abilities of the craft, as with the northern traditions of men being that kind of bender and women healing so it makes sense his skills would still be sharp I think Katara moved her focus to healing once life settled down for them all, and honestly raising three kids, one of which was the first Airbender in over a century on top of whatever white lotus business came up? It's also implied that Katara helped train Korra, as did Zuko, in some capacity.
Not to mention not keeping in mind the situation they're in, Night Time in the Snow for Zuko would've meant he'd be at his most disadvantageous he could be

Right, same with naruto in Boruto. They're trying to nerf naruto so boruto can surpass him and make the story going or else every episode would be momoshiki level with naruto and sasuke as the mcs again.

They're pretty close to the age of 100. You're essentially comparing 50 and 100 when looking at zuko and iroh. Aang died at 66, he was unfrozen at 12, so add around 51 years to everyone age too account from end of avatar to the beginning of korra, so add another 18 to 20 years of age for korra and now they're all at the least in their mid 80s. Bumi was just bumi, and clearly he was built different

My theory is peace time + writing. Katara, Zuko, and Toph (kinda) were all busy raising kids and whatnot in their mid to later years, not preparing to defend their homeland like Bumi or Pakku. Could also be a writing choice. AtLA's writers were cool with have older adults support and kick ass alongside the kids. LoK writers wanted the focus squarely on their new characters. I think Toph's "ya gotta leave it to the kids" was also directed at us, the audience. Katara got done super dirty though. In AtLA she didn't want to be just a healer. What's her role in LoK? World's greatest healer 🙄 Honestly, it feels like a bit of a betrayal to me.
Or she was a 14 year old kid whose life goals eventually changed, you know, like most people do?? Lol most people aren't even close to where they thought they'd be at 14, and for the better. Also why be a fighter during an age of peace, when you can help others recover from the war? I'd see it quite fitting for her character and development jf she saw the benefit of mastering healing after the war, especially after she saw what she was capable of when she brought Aang back. People didn't need a fighter anymore, they might have needed a healer instead, and you know Katara ain't gonna turn her back on anyone that needs her. .... Or just a writing flaw and they didn't consider her actual character arc lol.
@@rachelblair8258 I think reading this has solidified part of why I don't care for Katara's portrayal in LoK. I'm good with change. Toph as chief of police is definitely a change, but the character still feels like Toph. Zuko, despite no longer being filled with rage and angst, still feels like Zuko. Even Aang, in the few times we see him, still feels like the same person despite obviously not being a 12yr old. Compared to the rest of Gaang in LoK, we spend a good amount of scenes with Katara. She doesn't feel like the same character to me. It feels like her purpose in the story was just to be a kindly grandma who once in a while references things from AtLA and the writers wrote her that way with nothing else considered. If you had never seen AtLA, you'd still have a good idea of Toph and Aang's characters but I feel like with Katara there's noooot a whole lot there other than kind healer.
@@Tigersaurus I disagree. Katara felt like a natural progression. She's always feelt like an older sister who's trying to do what's best for the group. Sure she was a bada** fighter but it was truly her sense responsibility and her heart at 14 that would stay once you continue to age and lose you physically abilities. She's still there caring for everyone and understanding what Korra needs to do to become a better avatar. Healing stays the same or even gets better with age whereas fighting doesn't.
@@Tigersaurus I definitely felt like she could have played a bigger role in Lok….The blood bending arc would’ve been perfect for some Adult-Katara flashbacks and even references to Hama…like we know she denounced the ability and had it outlawed but they should have explored that further… like what if we got one scene were she, in her old age, used the technique (without the full moon) to save korra from Amon, to show that he’d be no match for her… that would’ve been 🔥 definitely would’ve gave us the same full circle moment that they gave Toph, because it was definitely clear that Kuvira would’ve been ended quickly.

Zuko couldn't fight the red lotus because he was in subarctic temperatures- firebenders do not do well in the cold. Toph complained about her back but was still able to take out a small platoon of mecha tanks and put the breaks on Korra (who was, admittedly, in rough shape already). Bumi is 112/113 by the time we meet him meaning he's been in fighting form since the war started but even he slouches still.
@RJ The only reason you perceive Pakku and Bumi as better than older Toph is because you didn’t meet those characters in their youth, you learned about them as they were old. Toph was the only person who could sense Korra still had poison in her and she lived in the swamp because she could feel the entire earth with her seismic sense. That’s one of the greatest bending achievements ever accomplished and it happened during Korra
Toph literally spent her professional career catching criminals by swinging on metal cables in metal body armor. That kind of thing destroys your body. I'm astonished the wasn't in wheelchair at her age in Legend of Korra.
There's also another reason. With the exception of King bumi, katara and toph are actually much older in the legend of Korra (80s to 90s) compared to the white lotus.(50s to 60s)

@@Soren9302 The end of the episode Tales of Ba Sing Se has a tribute to his voice actor, Mako Iwamatsu, who passed around a month and a half before the episode aired after a long fight with esophageal cancer.
They have been fighting all their lives, which they kept their bodies defined and in shape. The youth who fought in their prime and ended the war at their prime. They didn't need to fight anymore because they ended the war at their prime. It's like going to war young, and the war ends while still being young, vs fighting a war of all the days of your life and ending the war at an old age.

I also think, that they kind of just stopped being as athletic as they were forced to be while young, because they aged during peace while bumi aged during a time where you didn't get to have a break and you needed to be ready at all times, so yk when peace arrived, Katara, Zuko, and Toph all stopped worrying so much as it kind of turned peaceful, and not to mention toph chilled in the swamp area, katara became a designated healer, and Zuko lived a life of luxury as a king, other than being burdened with paperwork
I think that Katara, Toph, and Zuko were actually all older than the old masters at that point. New advancements meant that people live longer. (Peace also helps people live longer.) So the old masters might have been in their 60s, but those 3 would be in their 80s (late 70s for Toph).

Honestly I think the only reason bumi lived that long was because death himself couldn’t deal with his antics and put off claiming him for as long as possible. Seriously the guy was over 100 years old and reclaimed an entire city by himself.
Peace bought them like 70 years of civilized development, technological advancement, and improved living conditions. Yeah, they weren't as strong combatants as they could have been if they'd been training their butts off all that time, but training their butts off wasn't what was necessary. Statesmanship, tutelage, and diplomacy were. Quotes like this mistake vanity for strength.
Iroh was in his Early 50’s while Zuko was in his 80’s or older. Remember that Iroh is Zukos uncle, not grandfather. Edit: Tje White Lotus were special and grew up in war, Hence stayed flexible. OG Team Avatar grew up in Peace where they had no reason to fight and hence, did not stay flexible. Bumi stated the reason he lived so long and still looks and moves good is because he's been eating vegetables. It's everyone's diet that determines how long they live, not if they survived the war.

@@alexaang9814 He’s right actually. Iroh was pretty young. He was Zuko’s uncle not Grandfather. Zuko was teenager of 16 year old. His Father Ozai was at best in his 30s or 40s. Iroh was his elder brother. So he can’t be that old. But Bumi was very very old and so was Paku.

For the female characters, it's probably also an aftereffect of pregnancy, menopause, etc. Katara had three kids while Toph had two, pregnancy can definitely take a lot out of you.
I know that no one will believe me BUT... My grandma gave birth to 4 children. In her 80's she looked as young as in her 40's. Only diffrence was her hair going gray, but she died it, so it wasn't even noticable. This fact is scary af lol I'm only praying to get this genes after her

Bumi and Pakku probably just had to stay in shape and be in top form due to the war into their older years. The next gen was literally not exercising due to the peace time. Like in real life, those that tend to exercise and train most of thier lives look better and be in better shale into their older years while those that lead a sedentary life tend to look worse when they age. Makes sense lol.

I think it’s cause during the war they never stop training and never stopped fighting. However when it’s peace time you don’t need to fight so there’s no reason to train. Therefore They basically let themselves go.

I think the time period explanation is valid. During war, these characters would have to maintain a state of readiness to defend themselves and possessions etc. Survival skills would also be important. In peace they wouldn't have to focus on these things. I'd consider their upbringings too.. Toph happened to be spoiled, Katara was pretty much the only waterbender in her tribe, Zuko was exiled...compared to King Bumi having lived through the entire war (including his teen years), Pakku growing up/living through the war, Iroh being the former heir apparent of the Fire Nation. Early life experiences can have lasting effects on people.
The one thing I wanted in Season 4 more than anything else was Toph kicking around Kuvira like a ragdoll. Ok, maybe a more fair fight, but I just wanted to see her in action, plus the rest of the Gaang.
Humans adapt actively and subconsciously to their surroundings and the original team avatar did indeed experience a long term of peace and tranquility.....I definitely agree that iroh, paku and bumi all stayed as strong as they did out of necessity...Whereas team avatar got to experience a time without that necessity being present.

In addition to that, Tenzen and Bumi were too busy with their occupations at that point to see her often, and she couldn't visit because of her responsibilities in the Southern Water Tribe. Agree on the physical damage, especially Toph. She literally spent her adult career swinging on cables in metal body armour. That kind of thing will destroy your body.

Alternatively, the old people shown in ATLA often were considered upper class or well taken care of and hence had diets and live styles that are often attributed with living to older age. where as toph lived in a swamp following the mental drain of adulthood and katara lost her husband, apa, and was living in the south pole which isnt that hospitable. Not to mention genetics if you compare how katara and grangran look similar in their old age.

Toph and Zuko were both still incredibly impressive for their age (around their 80s). They were much older than Iroh who was in his 50s during TLA. Bumi is the most impressive here, at 112 years of age, but he's kind of an outlier since we haven't seen anyone else reach that age apart from Kiyoshi, who learnt the secret to immortality.
Aged down to their 50s as well, I could definitely see the Gaang fairing as well as Iroh did during that age.

Bumi was probably fully connected to the earth's power, so he had a LOT of energy even at his oldest
A couple things.
1. Uncle Iroh was in his late 50s to early 60s in ATLA
2. Zuko was in his late 80s to early 90s in LOK
3. Aang died at the biological age of 66 because the years frozen in the avatar state took a toll on his body
4. Gran gran was in her 80s and lived her youth during war time. Times of stress take a significant toll on your body and INCREASE aging. Wolf cove was reduced to a tiny village with limited resources and she watched the fire nation completely decimate her people. She new Hama and watched Hama get taken away along with every other water bender in her tribe. She went through a genocide of sorts. Gran gran definitely didn't live during peace time.
5. Master Paku lived in the northern water tribe that not only thrived during the 100 years time but was a complete nation with resources and a sense of safety. Even though he was around the same age as Gran gran, his living conditions were significantly better than hers.
6. Katara and Toph were were 12-16 years old fighting a war against a nation that had essentially taken over the world. They faced near death plenty of times and lived under constant stress. They slept outside in the elements, frequently had to move around, and scrounge up enough resources to keep themselves fed. That's not peace.
7. King Bumi is an anomaly, he attributes his old age to healthy eating but we don't actually know how he lived so long. Outside of guru Pathik or avatar Kyoshi, it's not common to see people that old and even less common to see them thriving at that age.
8. Katara and Toph had children. Very stressful life

King Bumi is the only one who aged like fine wine. Aang died when team avatar was like 50 or 60. Korra is 17 in the first season. Katara was in her 80s in the first episode. They didn't age like milk, they aged like people who weren't King Bumi. Zuko was at least 90 by the time they got to his fight with the youngsters. Bumi was waiting for his friend, had gone completely insane and was probably directly related to Kioshi (nephew or cousin) the oldest living person.

I say that's pretty much accurate. When you're living through times of war you wanna stay in physical shape. After the 100 year war team avatar focused their efforts to build a peaceful society and prepare future generations to protect it after they were gone.
You do know that's not true. After years of war they had to deal with rebels and rouges left and right. Katara and Toph had life full of fight AND a ton of duties to fulfil- being the head of tribe/clan, being full time single mother, are just a part of it. Sokka didn't have had it easy nor did Aang. Well Sokka and Aang passed away earlier from such burden. Katara and Toph managed to reach their 80's or more. Still keeping an eye on their children and people. They still can fight but every body age and has limitations. In opposition we have set an example of Zuko, Bumi and Paku - privileged man who lived in palace, had armies to fight their fights and servants so they really could focus on maintaining their bodies. Do you realise how much difference does it make? Unearthy. Also the "girls" had to fight centuries of sexism in their time as we see world has changed since Aangs times. When Katara arrived to the Northern Water Tribe the law forbode even teaching waterbending to girls, they were given as wifes without taking their will under consideration- in legend of Korra we have well educated co-inheriting bender Eska - a great representation of new rules (even if a bit weird as a person) if we compare her to Yue. Toph had it similar - girls couldn't fight, they were to be married to a well situated man and give them babies. Toph had none of that. But fight prejudice and sexism is draining as well. Think about the entire picture, not only Naruto style black and white ( by the way the tv show is also sexist af). Now go and rethink your values and make right in your duties to you mother and/or wife. They really don't like to take your loundry from under the bed or clean your dirty dishes. Really.

For example: Katara, Toph, and Zuko are still in their double digits and Toph is the only one who can claim that she's still close to peak form. Though she also has the benefit of quite possibly being the greatest human earth bender to ever live. Compare this to Bumi who was still able to single handedly take back an entire city in less than 8 minutes at a whopping 112. The remaining members of Aang's Team might not even LIVE that long. Let alone be combat ready at such an age.

They were also significantly older than Iroh was in ATLA. Iroh was in his 50's, while the old team Avatar was getting to 90. And while Toph may have back pain, Katara slowed down and Zuko got beaten down, Toph was still able to face Kuvira and come out unscathed. Katara is still regarded as one of the most powerful waterbenders around. Zuko went into his big fight with every disadvantage with people who would totally kill him if given the chance and still put up a good fight. Iroh had his younger age and the fact he was a fire bender during Sozin's Comet. Jong Jong was in a similar situation. So all things considered Zuko is impressive for putting up such a fight in a place and time that by design suppresses fire bending. Piandau was probably the youngest of them all tbh and we know he practiced daily, and with Sokka dead or MIA in the show we cNt compare them. Bumi is a beast and a master of neutral Jing, and while old and having back pain Toph is literally living in a swamp, alone at her age and apparently thriving. Paku was a renowned waterbending master who specialized in the physical abilities of the craft, as with the northern traditions of men being that kind of bender and women healing so it makes sense his skills would still be sharp I think Katara moved her focus to healing once life settled down for them all, and honestly raising three kids, one of which was the first Airbender in over a century on top of whatever white lotus business came up? It's also implied that Katara helped train Korra, as did Zuko, in some capacity.

Aang died at 66, he was unfrozen at 12, so add around 51 years to everyone age too account from end of avatar to the beginning of korra, so add another 18 to 20 years of age for korra and now they're all at the least in their mid 80s. Bumi was just bumi, and clearly he was built different

My theory is peace time + writing.
Katara, Zuko, and Toph (kinda) were all busy raising kids and whatnot in their mid to later years, not preparing to defend their homeland like Bumi or Pakku.
Could also be a writing choice. AtLA's writers were cool with have older adults support and kick ass alongside the kids. LoK writers wanted the focus squarely on their new characters. I think Toph's "ya gotta leave it to the kids" was also directed at us, the audience.
Katara got done super dirty though. In AtLA she didn't want to be just a healer. What's her role in LoK? World's greatest healer 🙄

Or she was a 14 year old kid whose life goals eventually changed, you know, like most people do?? Lol most people aren't even close to where they thought they'd be at 14, and for the better. Also why be a fighter during an age of peace, when you can help others recover from the war? I'd see it quite fitting for her character and development jf she saw the benefit of mastering healing after the war, especially after she saw what she was capable of when she brought Aang back. People didn't need a fighter anymore, they might have needed a healer instead, and you know Katara ain't gonna turn her back on anyone that needs her.

I'm good with change. Toph as chief of police is definitely a change, but the character still feels like Toph. Zuko, despite no longer being filled with rage and angst, still feels like Zuko. Even Aang, in the few times we see him, still feels like the same person despite obviously not being a 12yr old.
Compared to the rest of Gaang in LoK, we spend a good amount of scenes with Katara. She doesn't feel like the same character to me. It feels like her purpose in the story was just to be a kindly grandma who once in a while references things from AtLA and the writers wrote her that way with nothing else considered. If you had never seen AtLA, you'd still have a good idea of Toph and Aang's characters but I feel like with Katara there's noooot a whole lot there other than kind healer.

@@Tigersaurus I disagree. Katara felt like a natural progression. She's always feelt like an older sister who's trying to do what's best for the group. Sure she was a bada** fighter but it was truly her sense responsibility and her heart at 14 that would stay once you continue to age and lose you physically abilities. She's still there caring for everyone and understanding what Korra needs to do to become a better avatar. Healing stays the same or even gets better with age whereas fighting doesn't.

Toph complained about her back but was still able to take out a small platoon of mecha tanks and put the breaks on Korra (who was, admittedly, in rough shape already). Bumi is 112/113 by the time we meet him meaning he's been in fighting form since the war started but even he slouches still.
@RJ The only reason you perceive Pakku and Bumi as better than older Toph is because you didn’t meet those characters in their youth, you learned about them as they were old. Toph was the only person who could sense Korra still had poison in her and she lived in the swamp because she could feel the entire earth with her seismic sense. That’s one of the greatest bending achievements ever accomplished and it happened during Korra

It's like going to war young, and the war ends while still being young, vs fighting a war of all the days of your life and ending the war at an old age.

I also think, that they kind of just stopped being as athletic as they were forced to be while young, because they aged during peace while bumi aged during a time where you didn't get to have a break and you needed to be ready at all times, so yk when peace arrived, Katara, Zuko, and Toph all stopped worrying so much as it kind of turned peaceful, and not to mention toph chilled in the swamp area, katara became a designated healer, and Zuko lived a life of luxury as a king, other than being burdened with paperwork

New advancements meant that people live longer. (Peace also helps people live longer.) So the old masters might have been in their 60s, but those 3 would be in their 80s (late 70s for Toph).

Iroh was in his Early 50’s while Zuko was in his 80’s or older. Remember that Iroh is Zukos uncle, not grandfather.
Edit: Tje White Lotus were special and grew up in war, Hence stayed flexible. OG Team Avatar grew up in Peace where they had no reason to fight and hence, did not stay flexible.

For the female characters, it's probably also an aftereffect of pregnancy, menopause, etc. Katara had three kids while Toph had two, pregnancy can definitely take a lot out of you.

Like in real life, those that tend to exercise and train most of thier lives look better and be in better shale into their older years while those that lead a sedentary life tend to look worse when they age. I think it’s cause during the war they never stop training and never stopped fighting. However when it’s peace time you don’t need to fight so there’s no reason to train. Therefore They basically let themselves go.

Toph was the Yoda during the age of Korra's run as the avatar.
I think the time period explanation is valid. During war, these characters would have to maintain a state of readiness to defend themselves and possessions etc. Survival skills would also be important. In peace they wouldn't have to focus on these things.
I'd consider their upbringings too.. Toph happened to be spoiled, Katara was pretty much the only waterbender in her tribe, Zuko was exiled...compared to King Bumi having lived through the entire war (including his teen years), Pakku growing up/living through the war, Iroh being the former heir apparent of the Fire Nation. Early life experiences can have lasting effects on people.
Was Toph spoiled? She chose to leave it behind and was pretty happy and became stronger every since until writer drop-off

Katara also lost her brother and her husband within a few years of each other. In addition to that, Tenzen and Bumi were too busy with their occupations at that point to see her often, and she couldn't visit because of her responsibilities in the Southern Water Tribe.

Alternatively, the old people shown in ATLA often were considered upper class or well taken care of and hence had diets and live styles that are often attributed with living to older age. where as toph lived in a swamp following the mental drain of adulthood and katara lost her husband, apa, and was living in the south pole which isnt that hospitable. Not to mention genetics if you compare how katara and grangran look similar in their old age.
