this guy is the real deal. He makes La Vagabonde and Zaitara look like a bunch of day-trippers. An absolute inspiration to anyone (like me) who's ever dreamed of sailing off over the horizon.
I feel like I’m on the trip with him. Beautiful scenery. For now I will have to be happy with my modest Ranger 23 on the San Francisco Bay. Maybe someday. 🤔 Great Video!❤
My family and I sit down in the evenings in Nova Scotia, Canada and watch your videos. We enjoy them very much. You do a fantastic job with your story telling and cinematography.
Ale _7 if you type "the French sailing man " th-cam.com/video/O4kIE8AhCB0/w-d-xo.html It's interesting where he has good number of followers, but i much prefer NBJS. Just seems epic , and I prefer the quality of the filming.
Absolutely one of the top sailing channels. You really put your heart, sole and creativity into these. But.....if you go overboard we all lose you and your talents. Please wear a harness! I hate mine, and it's actually dangerous for how clumsy it is. But it's kept me onboard more than once. Keep up the amazing work.
I've been very privileged to make contact with the Faroe Islands only a few times during my lifetime on Amateur Radio. But I've never seen the beauty of Faroe that you shared with us. Also, having been a sailor in the Pacific Ocean, your video really helped me to appreciate the difference between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. In my younger days, I might have been able to brave the cold as you have done, but I am in awe of your being able to do that. Thank you for sharing your experience and the beauty of Faroe Islands with us,
Erik Here is what one guy did: 1, Sailed an ordinary 35 ft boat across the North Sea in winter, alone, Now as far as I know nobody else has done this and documented it publicly. Even those original Vikings had shipmates! 2 Maintained and repaired the same boat, ( not to mention own, operate and maintain the video equipment) 3 video taped your own journey. 4. Flew a drone and made great videos of the spectacular landscape, villages and churches. 5 Edited the original video into a watchable production... 6. Did the voice over narrative.. If this was a Hollywood or some kind professional production/ documentary, then I bet it would take dozens of people and cost millions.$$ Erik, you just did the work of an entire team of people.... You were the movie Star, Director, Producer, Narrator, Stunt man , Special effects guy, Sound guy, Video- Cinamatographer, And I think I missed some professions and trades... All those skills within one person ! Amazing .
This is some serious sailing, my son. Congratulations. I am somewhat envious. My waters are the Gulf Islands and west coast of British Columbia, which has its moments, but not nearly as wild as your adventures! Carry on.
Hi Erik! As a professional cameraman I can say this is one of the best sailing video's I've seen on youtube, I can see how much effort you took to film it. Awesome droneshots and a lot of little stories like the coastguard contact, warming your hands, eating meatballs, etc. I really like the pace of the video, your voice-over and the choice of music and soundeffects. Great job, did I say awesome droneshots yet?
Your videos are absolutely incredible! To do the sailing alone would be such a challenge: I can't imagine doing all this while also finding the time to collect so much beautiful footage. Spot-on post-production work as well-- love the editing, musical selections, etc... just an astounding accomplishment! Cheers!
Simply amazing. The storytelling and videography, your spirit and energy. The boat seems strong and more than capable of making such journeys. Wouldn't expect anything less when it has such a captain ;) Fair winds to you, stay safe and keep doing what you love!
《七海小英雄》(Vicky The Viking,日語:小さなバイキングビッケ,德語:Wickie und die starken Männer,又譯為北海小英雄(台灣), a Japanese cartoon say about a clever Viking litter boy I like to see during young, Hi Erik, you are actually my hero! Wish you sail peacefully all around the North sea. I also have elementary sail certificate around 1971 and qualify to sail dinghy during that time in Hong Kong so I like sailing very much, ha ha!
I rarely comment on any (sailing) videos on TH-cam. Having said that, this one is just one of the best I've ever seen. Enjoyed every minute of it, great story telling and editing - keep up the good work, Erik!
Can be expensive to watch your vids . A man can start dreaming. I like how you put it all together. The little teaser in the beginning, really good aerial fotage, and all the hassle getting seawater inside. Impressed see You beeing able to sleep in the waves. (I want to see you catch or land that mavic? on the sailboat ;) )
Loved this. I lived in Shetland for 10 years and have visited the Faroes, so it was great to see both sets of islands. And the sailing was fascinating!
Thank you, Erik, for taking me with you to a place I will probably never have the privilege of seeing. And thank you to Tessie for looking after you so well. I love every second of every video you make. Keep on sailing!
I must say Erik....you are a brave and adventurous sole my friend..I believe it would be quite something to know you...Thank You for Sharing!!! Mark from Florida!
Erik, this is absolutely beautiful. How I miss the sea! It just so happens that I’m watching this video drinking a beer and, as a retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer..it is also the U.S. Navy’s birthday (1775). What a great day for me and thank you so much for the inspiring narration of your voyage(s). Fair winds and following seas shipmate!
The great thing about this channel is that it is not just about the destination but especially about the road to the destination . Very nice video Erik , it was just 45 minutes of pure enjoyment !!!!!
I feel so lucky to live in a time where not only can one man do this, but he can make an amazing, documentary-quality video sharing his experience with others. Thank you!
Your videos and your adventures are the most amazing thing on TH-cam! You Sir, are a true Viking! I am in awe of your indestructible spirit and character. You are a truly inspiring human being! You should have 100k subscribers by now!!!
Erik that was an awesome video! Hopefully I will be doing this journey one day soon. Now you just continue sailing NW and visit me on the East coast of Iceland!😉
The photography and spoken word is really well done here. The romance of sailing the remote savage ocean lights up my imagination. I wish I could follow in your footsteps.
The other day a friend said, you know, sailing is the opposite of relaxing. Normally sailing is thought of as the most relaxing way to boat, but, I agreed with my friend. I love how on a power boat you are above the seas, you control the roll, and you able to go anywhere. I watch your adventures and wish to remake them with a motor boat. As a power boater, no matter what i do, I cannot get over the constant tacking of the sailboats. It is like a disruption of balance. Good luck and I cant wait to see your new videos.
Hi Erik, so glad you shared this my Viking Brother! 🇳🇴 Much Love from Female Viking in America🙏🏻🇺🇸. I wish you would take me for a ride. You are quite the sailor!💕
You succeeded, Brother. The best part of the videography is its transparency. Shot after shot of interesting things and awe-inspiring islands standing up to the North Atlantic, and none of them interrupted by intrusive video production. Pure story telling. That is so hard to do in writing, and I'm sure in film-making, too. Sorry about your good camera, though. Saw it tipping, couldn't grab it through the screen. Hope it's repairable for less than it cost.
Thank you so much for those deep blue images ! I seat in the so hot countryside in France this afternoon and it is a big pleasure to take a big bath of freshness with you .You are a real adventurer .
Fantastisk resa. Blir helt tagen av dina filmer! Du är en otroligt bra filmare. Vackert! Hoppas du förstår min svenska. Orkade inte skriva på engelska 😃😉
Love your videos and attitude towards life... “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!” ― Hunter S. Thompson,
In 2 years I plan to sail around the world. I'm planning for it now. And this is the very best channel. Erik doesn't show you him sunbathing and rockfishing, he shows sailing, often in wild seas. Brilliant videos for sailors by a sailor. One day I want to meet you Erik.
The way you show a shot from above of Tessie and then raise camera to show the sea showing were you are going, the vast ocean tells a thousand words. You are dominating!
Utterly amazing to single hand that insane crossing. No wonder the town welcomed you with open arms. You're a legend! Thank you for your story. I look forward to more.
Erik, this is a masterpiece of singlehanded sailing, filming and content. You should, and I'm sure you are, very proud of the result. Each film you make are a nugget of gold that we can be blessed in being able to witness......don't stop.
I cannot imagine flying a Drone in the seas of winds. Wow you are more than a sailer..you are a poet, leader and worker , seeker of dream fulfillment and photographer. Beautiful my friend and certainly not at an easy cost. Life, and passion is priceless.
Amazing.. feel like i am in a lucid dream when i watch you do your thing, keep on sailing and keep on motivating because you do a superb job at it. Respect ✊
You are a legend Erik , Man thats some weather and that yacht of yours looks after your sole ,, your best friend when the weather gods turn ,,, Great video my friend ,,,

I have finally arrived at a port with decent wifi so that I can watch this film Erik. I tip my hat to you. It is just brilliant. Brilliantly sailed, brilliantly filmed, and brilliantly narrated. Bravo my friend, and thanks for bringing us along on this fantastic adventure.
I'm sitting here depressed and dreaming about the future I might have - I wish to build my own wooden-boat and sail to Faroes alone. Then you hit me with my favorite poem in the end - damn Erik, I'm crying now. This was beautiful, thank you very much for sharing. Jækligt bra Erik, en dag skal jeg også gjøre dette, takk for at du deler!

La Vagabonde and their global warming woke bullshit gets old real fast...
I feel like I’m on the trip with him.
Beautiful scenery.

Great Video!❤

The best sailing channel on YT, no questions about it.
Rykehuss I agree with you. There is a French guy who does something similar but I really this one channel the most.
David Houghton whats the french guys name.

I had a longer 5 ft harness line made up, much easier to work with, I always clip on upwind as the line is longer
I’m a sailor and owned my own boat for 15 years. But you are in a solo class by yourself. I admire your courage and resilience and sense of adventure.
goddamn this is the coolest channel ive ever accidentally stumbled upon, thanks youtube.

As a person who naturally only feels at home in or near the water I want to say I love your channel and thank you.
Erik. You' d'man. I love how you've integrated sailing, scenery and personality. Ornithology and gastronomy bonuses. Stay safe.

Yes!!! If someone told me to get rid of all my favourite channels bar one, yours would be the one I would keep.

Okocim would be even nicer!
Tasted Tyskie in tap in Bytow, PL, few years back. Strong Approve. :D
I was stoked to see it as well. Been a fan for years and did the brewery tour a couple years back 👍.
Just became a Patron after this, keep it up. Much respect. Working towards this level myself, still a long way to go. It is inspiring!

Erick you are like a character out of game of thrones. Aanderaa the navigator and his blue ship ' send him north with a message'
Very good editing . The intro grabs your attention
and then the sailing part is excellent.
I've only watched 7mins , I'm saving the rest.

"let's leave reality behind just for a brief moment."
Nah man, this IS reality. Very well done.
Also, you may have just damaged the shutter on your DSLR. It is worth having it checked out as a shutter replacement is much cheaper than a new camera.
Sailing with no bull shit…. Incredible congratulations!
Great (proper) sailing channel. Thanks Eric.
Your lack of safety harness had me squirming.
Erik, My 1st cousins grandmother was from the Faroe Islands. I grew up hearing stories and experiencing the wonderful little old lady. Seeing your videos of the islands brought back wonderful memories and gave me a glimpse of life she must have lived growing up. Visiting the Faroe Islands is now on my bucket list. Thank you.
Another amazing video and most importantly sharing unique experiences with us
your reverence for the island is clear and admirable. Obviously the mayor and harbormaster were quite impressed with your skill and bravery!
One of the best videos I have ever watched on utube.
You my friend are a true Viking
Imagine the old days. No radio or back up. Bravery on another level. Respect fella as even with modern gear it's not a stroll round a park. Thanx
Erik wow just wow what an epic adventure, so brave to attempt that crossing, I never knew how stunning the Faroe Islands where!
Sorry about your camera!
We were going to sail from UK to Northern Spain next spring (Covid willing) - now we are thinking about going to Scandinavia via Holland instead thanks to you! Fantastic to have such a positive outlook on challenging seas - Thanks a million for all your hard work in putting these together so professionally.
I love you Man. You know what’s Goood - Tyskie Polish beer rules
Unbelievable how you sail in such environments alone. Your Videos are always interesting, we are stoked for more..
sooo long 7 days…
but waiting was worth it!!!
Phantastic video and your drone footage is so amazing. Ho many wind can the drone stand?
Sorry for your Nikon…
Can´t tame my impatience to see the next video.
Bonjour Éric, merci encore pour cette belle navigation.
Soyez prudent et bon vent à vous.
Patrick Laine is in the faro isles right now you two should make a video together as you both take us on adventures , you are one extreme to the other like ice and fire
I was about mentioning the same
I would love that as well. Exchanging points of view on sailing should make for an interesting conversation. Both seem to have very pleasant personalities. I’m sure someone would be willing to offer a beer and hold the camera 😄
Such a beautiful sight I would never have seen that if not for you. Brilliant job!
Really astonishing achievement! Great sailing, great filmmaking!
Erik, your videos are incredible and I can't get enough of them. There is something so freeing, so relaxing, so calming about them. You're an artist. I enjoy falling asleep to your videos. Looking forward to your next adventures!

You sound a lot like Werner Hertzog narrating, love it! Keep up the good work!!
I'm sitting here depressed and dreaming about the future I might have - I wish to build my own wooden-boat and sail to Faroes alone. Then you hit me with my favorite poem in the end - damn Erik, I'm crying now. This was beautiful, thank you very much for sharing.
