Confirmation bias. Rise released in a rocky state on the switch. A console different from the PS4 and PC and so since then a lot of people have been telling themselves it's garbage to justify the fact they can't play it. Rise got fixed and released for consoles and PC and quite frankly the reception has been great. All I see from new players is hype for Sunbreak. All the "fuck rise, world 2 when?" Has been coming from people who either played it from release or never played it at all.
Confirmation bias. And of course "lackluster updates". Sunbreak only needs 2 actually new monsters so that whole stigma against it goes. If it gets that, then the whole package would have honestly recieved better TUs than iecborne.

I personally agree on the MR requirements being too high for certain monsters but as someone who just recently finished the main story of Sunbreak. You get access to A LOT of monsters straight off the bat at MR 10. Seething bazel, chaotic gore, velkhana, flaming espinas. Are all available straight up at MR10. And you still get a lot of monsters unlocked that way, inushi and narwa are very easy to get at 20 and 30 respectively for example. All in all there's not too much dead space in between grinds. Which is good.

Even at master rank 700, there is still a lot of stuff for me to do, and I only made sets for 3 weapons so far. Imagine making a meta set for every weapon type and element....
Also, the velkhana set is actually really nutty specifically for the greatsword, a 30% boost on a TCS on a sleeping monster is a huge boost

thats my goal once I reach max anomaly level. If elemental weapons need different sets for every element to be efficient, the same can be said for using different weapons for different monsters. In previous games I used bowguns, long sword, great sword, dual blades, insect glaive, switch axe, and lance. Now its only dual blades, longsword, and light bowgun. I want to be able to pull out the best weappn for each monster, AND pull out the best set as well and for that there is a TON of grinding, practice, and fun ahead. I might even straight up replay the story with appropriate level gear just to practice weapons from the beginning.

I was somewhere around MR 130 before the most recent update, now I've grinded enough to pass 175 (first to unlock risen crimson glow and then from anomaly investigations).
Personally, I find the grind for research rank a lot more annoying and problematic. Sure getting up to 160 MR was annoying, but I was going to get there eventually, they added an event quest just to help with ranking up, and once I got there I was able to hunt it with my brother who was much further behind. With anomaly investigations though, the grind is even more insane (a lot of parts require rank 200+ which I'm not even remotely close to still). And if I do anything other than investigations, I'm not making progress towards that at all which sucks. And then there's the worst part, which is that people can't join investigations that are even slightly higher than their own rank.
In this case my brother can't join me on any investigations cause he's still a whole 80 levels behind me, and there's no point for me to join him because I'll get almost nothing out of it thanks to the level difference penalty.

I initially didn't like the talisman RNG grind because it's not fun like how hunting a monster for RNG monster parts is, taking you out of the game and wasting monster materials by feeding them to the melder, then they added Qurios crafting and while I liked the Qurios weapon crafting because you had full control over how you want to upgrade them,I dreaded Quiros armor crafting because it felt like talisman farming but for armor, and I had stopped playing ever since that title update which I think was title update 2 if I'm not mistaken. Then when title update 4 came out I found out that in title update 3 I think it was,was when they added Aurora Melding and while I still don't like the way talisman farming was implemented I actually don't mind engaging in it now because I can actually target what I want in a talisman now in the same way(to a lesser extent)I can target what I want in a Qurios Weapon and while I Still don't like Qurios armor crafting title update 4 has brought me back to the game fully,I had 600 hours on switch for base rise when Sun break first dropped(Keep in mind that I got Base Rise in late 2021)so I was a bit late to the hunt but I pretty much played nonstop since I got it and then Title update 2 killed the game for me and it sucked because MH is my favorite game franchise of all time but I'm truly glad to be back in the hunt
Now as for the rank requirements for MR monsters I honestly don't have a problem with it even though I stopped a while back and am behind (stopped at MR 100) I actually don't mind the high Mr requirements because in my eyes it's catering more towards players who are at the endgame which I think is exactly what Capcom should be doing. Now this is just my opinion but if you're not willing to grind up to MR160 I don't think you really enjoy the game that much to begin with and I don't think being MR160 and having access to these higher ranked monsters will be enough to keep you wanting to play the game but again that's just my opinion. All in all as I stated earlier I'm really glad to be back in the Hunt and last night I reached MR117 & am looking for to the grind because that's part of the reason I love Monster Hunter, the grind doesn't feel arbitrary like it does in other grindy games.
    Happy Hunting fellow Hunters

While rise+sunbreak is a great game and have the qol updates the game lost it's hunting aspect, no need to track monsters as it instantly shown in the map, no need for heavy item prep. I'm about 450hrs in the game, MR399, HR710, AR211. I've played the game about 99% solo, pretty efficient. Only played about 13h in the last 2 weeks. I play enough to do the content and maybe a few more things but after that I don't really care that much. Next thing to work on is hunting each monster 10 times for the scroll, and I only have maybe 2 more monsters to do.
Sunbreak only gets a small spike in players when TU hits.. then after a week or 2, numbers drop again cuz it's so easy to go through the content in just a few days and then not want to bother with the grind further. Once I get to AR220, there's nothing to do, and the game doesn't really motivate me to play the other weapons like MHW did.
I also really dislike the RNG augment systems on the armor. I think the weapon systems are fine, as they are set and you can organize them however you like with the slots and levels. The armor augments are not enough to want to keep chasing, nor is spending a bunch of time in menus adding 1-2 essence and waiting to see your crap roll fun or engaging. This also applies to wasting time in menus choosing monster parts to roll for talismen. It's not engaging gameplay, and the reward system tied to it doesn't feel good for the player.
I really think this approach to "hunt whatever you want" mentality created an environment where people don't care. They make it seem like the armor augments are additional, so you don't really ever try to perfect your gear. Same goes for talismen. All the people who hated the RNG for decos likes this approach, but I'm the opposite. I loved the build style of MHW, where gear pieces and decos fit together nicely like a puzzle. I don't mind RNG for decos because they are quest related and you can get them in a bunch of different quests. People can complain that some quests give the best rewards, but you can also argue that some quests in SB give the best monster parts for melding. The difference is that decorations as RNG rewards is a finite thing. The rewards you get from augments and charms is not.

The MR 160 requirement is way too much in my opinion. I bought Rise in November after TU3 was out, because I finally gave it a chance. And I played it a LOT - had a great time up until MR 70. But the grind to get to MR 110 to finally be able to get access to the risen dragon elders and therefore their armor sets which are a core to every build I wanted to make, was just tedious. I did a lot of rinse and repeat anomaly quests, farming materials for all the decorations I needed, crafting some armor and weapons for the final builds that I wanted to make but along the way I lost interest for this game. Everything I wanted to do was tied to reaching MR 110, which feels like such an unnecessary grind to stop players who joined the game at a later point gain access to such an important part of set building. It stopped being a grind for materials and creating better sets and started being a grind for a number that excludes players who joined this community a little later. I noticed that I wasn't enjoying it anymore after reaching MR 103 and I stopped. I have been taking a break since the end of January and was thinking about returning to the game. But just thinking about having to grind through 50 MR more after finally reaching MR 110 was the nail in the coffin for me :(
I love Monster Hunter! But this grind for MR just feels so badly designed with a complete disregard for newer players...

I honestly don't mind the MR 160 requirement because it's not really a thing. For those of you unaware, any hunter above MR 10 can join literally any quest, assuming their anomaly level is high enough. That means hunters fresh out of *final boss name* can do those hunts in lobbies with friends, streamers, or other hunters without issue. Admittedly, for solo players the grind is a lot, but you get extra experience for doing hunts solo and followers allow for a simulated hunt with friends.
The major problem I have is anomaly grinding. Grinding with people higher level than you is great since you can hunt within brackets of 20 anomaly levels (1-21, 21-41, etc.) The problem arrises when hunting solo, since your monsters are capped at your anomaly level, meaning grinding takes much longer. And since these are some of the toughest hunts in the game, you are going to spend upwards of half an hour or more fighting them with minimal payoff. But there is still a work around assuming you don't mind doing "Join Requests." Select a monster you want/need at the appropriate level, wait a few minutes, join that hunt and you gain extra anomaly levels. Simple, if at all a bit tedious. I'm assuming most players don't use this function, but it's there and works very well.
I think the criticisms brought up are totally valid for solo players. As one myself, it's a hard barrier to cross when you don't have all the time in the world. But if you want the grind to get easier, there are several ways to do so and they all involve other people. Sure, you are going to run into those people who wait for you to do all the work, but a vast majority of the community is there to help and I know for certain streamers on various platforms would be happy to help in lobbies.

I’ve been needing their gems for me armor sets (Switch Axe and Horn). But I go around and fight a diablos or the Kushala Dora and I get their super rare drops in like 2 runs. It’s frustrating because myself and my group are getting to the point where we are going to get the sun break DLC just to do the investigations to buy these gems. Outside of that, been loving Rise.

I recently started MHR with 70 hours of game-play using a new weapon Charge Blade and I'm currently level 145 with all necessary equipment to combat Rise's Apex Monsters. Mainly finishing all story quest, side-quest, Hub-quest, and event quest. I rarely do arenas, so reaching that threshold didn't take much effort, maybe 17 days to play real-time? I think the reason they wanted to make Master Rank expectations high is because of data collection and knowing that developers put in a lot of time making their designs, they wanted players to take their time to enjoy their creations. Compared to MHW it felt like Rise was more fast-pace and was incomplete due to the lack environmental interactions with what the monsters can do. They really do have beautiful maps this time around, but the monsters didn't really touch the map, just focused on one certain spot out in the open for fighting.

Regular Velkhana in Iceborne has a fairly weak ultimate attack sadly but Arch Tempered Velkhana’s ultimate attack has carted many a hunter. It hits like a truck even in Fatalis armor so if you get hit by it and you dont have something like divine blessing then you will probably get one shot by the 360 beam, if you’re lucky enough to survive the beam attack then it also freezes you to the ground so you can’t avoid the ice waves, it’s pretty dangerous. I don’t think AT Velkhana is more difficult than Fatalis or Alatreon but the attacks hit very hard and she’s quite aggressive so I think you were a little harsh in saying it’s one of the weakest of the hard monsters. The ultimate attack is pretty straight forward to avoid as long as you are always trying to stay close and be careful, but i’ve seen people cart to it many times.

I honestly don’t mind the MR quest requirements being that high. You say that MR is only a measure of time and not skill but if you gave that much time to the game then there is a correlation that you will also have a much better talisman, experience and gear set due to that time. Which equates to contributing more to a hunt. I wouldn’t mind them lowering the requirements as long as they don’t tone down a monster for it. But then multiplayer hunts would get even more grief’d with players way out of their league throwing the game. Even more so than already. (Remember the state of Valstrax hunts on day 1?) Which leads back to me being ok with there being a requirement. You say, “you can just play solo,” and, while that is true, you sound like you’re willing to throw the online experience down the drain just for the accessibility. You mention that it discourages players from grinding but I’ve seen the opposite. People who actually enjoy the game will put time into it. Others are there just for the one time experience and they wouldn’t have put in the time regardless of what rank they are. These players just join their friend’s quest for a day, fight the monster once or until they win, if they even can, (while getting carried by said friends) and leave again anyway. No grinding for the latest equipment or any of that. I’ve seen it happen. It’s annoying. I don’t mind having these quests be targeted for the people that actually play this game.
The only gripe I have is that the anomaly level grinding is a slog.

The MR requirements I'm not really gonna complain about cuz I'll just get to 160 eventually. Also, I kinda wish we got some MR rampages or some new Apexes. As for monsters I want to see, honestly I'm just tired of the monsters from World and Iceborne and I welcome any monsters from other games.

Capcom can't win. Previously when they've added the very difficult monsters the community moan that the rank requirement is too low and people are doing it without the gear and experience needed, so they up the rank requirements and the community still moans.
I'm massively enjoying the sunbreak end game, I can certainly see myself sinking more time in to this endgame than any other and a part of that is that it's all made so that you can play it solo. I do on occasion play with friends but at least 90% of my time playing MH over the years has been solo and the lack of scaling in the old gen games meant that most endgame quests were extremely long and world was full of quests with forced multiplayer mechanics.
I'm not sure I understand the RNG complaint. If you need a certain anomaly part there's multiple monsters that drop it, you still know what you're getting from hunting a certain monster. It adds variety rather than just hunting the same monster in the same location on repeat until you have enough of what you need.

Imo if you play a little bit of late game Mr 160 is easy to get. I did builds for lance, long sword, bow and db and I had ~180 after this

    Love the game.
Got about 4200 hours in and after 3200 in gu. I love the endgame and the more to do with my grind.
To much to little. We will all never be satisfied.
Want my heavy arrows back though. Loved them.

Is there a point of getting this game if I already have monster hunter world?
I played MH World for only 20 hours in total and took a huge break after.
It was kind of hard to get back into it after the break so I never really did.
Now Monster Hunter Rise in on a huge sale and I feel tempted.

I think my MR is 180 something on switch, but since the PlayStation version is out, I’m playing there predominantly now. Even with Base Game’s problems, I think arise absolutely rules. I started with World, but Rise made me a fan for the future.

Does the master rank go up slower then the hr? Got it day one on ps5 and im at like 180 ish already. Feels like ppl just don't want to play the game the high requirements is so you have a well rounded arsenal with options and armor upgraded.

I'm playing MHR for the first time since world , on my PS5 and I'm super jealous of the switch , I have a switch , but I don't know if I could tolerate the fidelity shift if I jump over.

Rushing through the content itself isn't really what players should be doing. They can comeback another day instead of unlocking everything within a week and never touch the game ever again as an example. If they are going to buy the game, they should take their time spending that $40-$80, instead of blowing it away within 1-2 weeks of gameplay. For players that don't have much time on their hands, that should be on them how they manage themselves, unless money talks.

Just ran across this great video, and game. My big question is : Do you only hunt "bosses" or are there skirmishes along the way? I Love the idea of a boss fight, but when I play in a casual time I would rather explore and kill "trash mobs". Is this possible in this game?

There is a expedition mode. You can explore, collect materials and fight any smaller or bigger monsters there. But the main chunk of the game is fighting a monster and getting that weapon/armor. It’s plenty of fun. Try the demo out and see how you like it:

I played on the switch, stopped at mr 50. I played with friends on xbox when it came out(now waiting for sunbreak) and i came back to the switch to hunt the new monsters. Currently mr 82 and you tell me the risens and things are at mr 160?....

I am new to Monster Hunter, Rise is my first game and have enjoyed it all the way through the grinding in sunbreak has been a little excessive I am @ 220 in anomaly investigation but I don't know if I would have done it if I played World I might have gotten burned out with the grind. I have Mario karts and have had every kart game made a little better graphics a little better game play but at the end of the day just the same grind I got bored quickly. I hope Monster Hunter 6 goes in a new direction a good story would be great don't know if I could get onboard for just more grinding. Will see when it comes out.

@@zayfanboy8 Yes, have not played with anyone in 20 years. I'm 65 and not very good and fall asleep sometimes when I'm playing. So I didn't want to be a burden or an embarrassment .

i personally like the mh160 requirement to help stop 3 carts in a hunt. And solo play is way too boring for me imo. Unless someone creates a better method to stop 3 carts, im open to any suggestion or method.
