    had an uncle who used to camp with me and grandpa quite a bit, he carried a pocket knife , a belt knife and a great big 16in bladed thing he called his fighting knife on a baldric. (I believe it was an old german bayonet). You are the second person I have ever heard use the word baldric in a sentence other than uncle. ( he was what they called ecentric back in the day).

    Where a bush means a scrub in the broader sense, as used in bushcraft, it means 'wilderness'. Down under they talk about 'going bush' and also in Africa, South America, Asia and some other parts of the world there are 'bushman'. They can live in the jungle, a tropical rainforest, a more desert like environment, etc. and are still called 'bushman'. So woodsman and woodcraft are limited to woodlands. Bushcraft covers it all. But a good video about different ways to carry a knife and about what knives you choose to bring and also about the sheath and carry system. It's all about the 5 P's (Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance).

    That was an excellent talk Blackie.
    Victorinox Ranger grip lives in my pocket & it's a very capable all around knife. In the woods l add a C.R.K.T. minamalist around my neck & Mora Garberg on my sling pack.

    I have a 6 waysheath for my WC homesteader, I carry it on haversack or on my belt "Cheyenne style " and a buck 110 w a kwiwi brass thumb stud or a case hunter in carbon steel from 1965 and in front pocket a case 1940-64 long pull bareheaded jack which is just like what my grandfather carried just different handle , I like good carbon steel the WC RST keeps them razor sharp... I prefer woodscrafter too as I consider myself a Woodsman more than anything else.

    I carry a Kephart style knife every day as my general purpose work knife. Does 99 percent of what I need, with a small Opinel as secondary. I’m a lefty as far as knife use, and carry on my left side belt. I use a dangler sheath because it gets the knife low enough to access when wearing a pack with a kidney belt. The dangler sheath also moves and flexes when crouching or sitting so works a lot better for me on the move. Comes in handy when I’m carrying my pew pew on my right hip, as I shoost with my right hand dominant. I’m all goofed up 😂

    Talking about knives make sure your knife will not fall out if you are up side down ( which means your knife is not secure and I add another piece of leather to the sheath that will keep the knife will not fall out of the sheath

    I like the idea of that 6 way sheath, but couldn't catch the business name. How much would something like that cost? And how would you build it?
    I have The Woodsman knife (4" blade) with a plastic sheath. Should I change it up & with what?
    I picked up 2- 11" Old Hickory Butcher Knives. That's bigger than their standard 7-7 1/2" butcher blade. Not sure why. What could they be used for, and how should they be carried safely?

    just wondering, how are you on the theory of Junior knives ? ie cutting edge but no sharp point even as an adult most of the ' how did that happen' minor cuts have usually been caused by the tip

    • @blackoracle69
      @blackoracle69  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      my first pocket knife when i was 5 was a barlow my grandfather snapped the tip off of it then rounded with a file so
      i could not stab myself only cut.. i guess you could call it a junior knife and would be a good idea at the beginning to be sure they will treat the knife with respect

    Great video when I finally got to the end. Biggest issue was the TH-cam Ad blocker that came out at each point you went to switch knife sheaths or carry configurations. The video kept getting interrupted and it took me 45 minutes and a lot of refreshing, going back and forth. I got thru your video and it was a great video but is there anyway you can tell TH-cam to quit stopping your video once it starts to be seen. I filed a TH-cam complain but I no this stopping the video every 2 minutes has to interfere with the algorithm.

    Jesus ... with all the shooting going on in the background I'm going to have to recommend a good kevlar vest and helmet. Maybe the helmet can be light blue so people think you're with some UN Peacekeeping force. As far as knife carry I like the haversack option and clip-on sheath. How's that little Mora for kitchen duty? My wife wants to know.

    I never ever agreed with the neck knife concept. I always wear a tee shirt. By the time I untuck a neck knife from a tee shirt, I can unsheathe a knife from my hip carry. Untucked neck knife is just dangerous. The only thing that ever rode on my neck is dog tags and a p38/p51 while under contract.
