If your glasses are fogging, your mask doesn't fit properly (which is the case with so many masks). This is a great tip to make a mask fit better. If your glasses aren't fogging up, that means your breath is being filtered through your mask instead of escaping around the edges. Brilliant.

    • @MyFocusVaries

I'm sewing masks and am going to adapt your idea and add a fabric strip/flap to the inside top and side edges to help with fit. Early in the pandemic, our provincial health officer called on manufacturers to improve their design; they should take your idea and add a strip/flap to the edges of their masks. Quick--get to the patent office!

Oddly enough I figured this out myself several weeks ago. I also keep those pocket-sized packs of Kleenex in my tote bag, so there's always a clean one at hand. I simply fold in half and then fold up from the bottom to make a strip. Works great. I also make sure the bottom of my glasses are resting on the top of the mask, to keep it snug.

I had issues with bits of the tissue edges fluttering up my nostril... and of course I couldn't adjust it because I was out and had been touching surfaces, etc. Also, it's wet and humid where I live and the tissue would get saturated on long walks. So I came up with the idea to cut a thin panty liner into strips. It's super absorbent and has an adhesive back! I can leave it on for a day, maybe 2 before I have to replace the strip.

I am not sure of your situation and why you have to wear sunglasses that fit over your prescription glasses... however, I lost my prescription sunglasses and was doing the same in a pinch. Then I found a clip-on sunglass piece that fits on the front of my regular glasses, which are plastic. They work great and we’re less than $10. I had previously thought they only worked for metal frames but that isn’t the case. Anyway, doesn’t help with fog but thought it may help with having to wear two pairs at once.

  • @thisbushnell2012

Because the mask is not sealing at the top edge. Hampering air flow IS THE POINT, and the Kleenex improves the seal.

Oh good grief that is so simple! Arrrgh man. I'm that engineer type that always over thinks things and goes way beyond the simple and obvious.
The whole time I have known that it is the hot humid exhale leaking from my mask top... And I have known that it is a matter of correct fit at the top. I spent the last hour searching for the face mask that is designed for eye glass wearers, with special features and/or easily modifiable designs - finally found this and now have my face in palm 😋 turns out that ANY mask will work with this one.

You can use any method that stops air from escaping from the top of your mask. If you lower the mask a bit and press the nose piece to fit it will keep the hot exhaled air from escaping and getting under the lens. Surgeons use soap on the lenses to stop fogging during an operation. Wash them with dish soap, rinse and air dry. Works for a couple hours very well. But, as long as air is blocked from escaping the top of the mask you won't have fogging. It's never a good idea to have anything too moist inside the mask/skin. Bacteria likes moisture. I bought a bag of self stick nose wires on Amazon and use 2 end to end on my masks to make a complete seal at the top. Works well for gaiter style masks too.

Sounds like a great idea. The problem with it is that toilet paper and facial tissue disintegrate terribly. Perhaps 1/4 sheet of paper towel would be longer lasting and just as effective once moisture gets in. Worth a try. I'm, thinking a piece of cotton might be good too. Thanks for the idea.

My second time of writing - first version "vanished" from the screen as sent it!!! However, I really believe it is worth rewriting it!! So, I like the tissue suggestion - easy, so simple and inexpensive. I have also discovered another method that works really well if your mask has a nose wire/bridge. it goes like this; Put on your mask, bend the nose wire into shape on your nose and then "tuck" the top edge of your mask under the frame of your glasses - a tiny overlap is all that you need. You'll find the best way to suit your individual face! I find it works even better if I move the glasses ever so slightly lower on my nose - the way they often slip down anyhow but you may not need to do that at all. Hope this helps!
