@vishrudh8285 So far, I haven’t come across any reliable sources confirming that a Competition version will be released. I doubt one will be introduced. Adding more power would require a larger battery, which is costly and takes up additional space. Moreover, increasing the V8’s output is unlikely due to EU7 environmental emission regulations.
And the "old" M5 weighed 1.9 tons. This weighs close to 600 kg more.... That's just stupid. We're now at a point where a full electric equivalent is lighter than this... Why pay a stupid amount of money for this with piss poor sound (you can barely hear the V8) and a cumbersome hybrid system when you can pay the same amount of money for a MUCH faster and lighter electric car? This or an Audi RS E Tron GT? 2450 kg vs 2350 kg? 780 hp or 925 hp? 0-60 in 3.4 seconds or 2.5 seconds? 1/4 mile in 11.3 seconds or 9.9 seconds? Why would anyone still buy this overpriced, overweight piece of scrap metal?
The "old" ICE-only M5 CS went 0-60 in 2.9secs, and 1/4 mile in 10.9secs. All, while weighing 1000+lbs (400+kg) less. Talk about driving dynamics, with an additional 1000lbs. This vehicle, compared to the old one - is definitely a step down.
10:47 - BMW said the grills were ostentatiously large because extra cooling was needed. Also, they blocked off nearly 60% of it on the vehicle that would need the most cooling.
Thing is most of the air probably goes into the "mouth grill" beneath. Its mouth hole is big enough to fit your head through and there are 2 radiators. One in the usual place and one that's placed perpendicular below the usual radiator. I find it weird that they couldn't make it work the kidney grill instead.

@@Missacek exactly, it’s not the manufacturers fault that they have to build ultra heavy hybrid vehicles so they can comply with the emissions standards. Most people tend to forget about that whenever a new model of a vehicle is released.
600kg hybrid system, with all those driving mode settings... it's like having the agility capability of a jetski, but fitted on a cruise ship. Makes no sense being there. That hybrid system would be perfect for the 7 series. The M5 should always remain under 2000kg.
Design is cool, i like it. There's also loads of power. The real problem is weight! Weight kills everything: power/weight ratio, dynamics, connection man/machine, nimbleness etc all the things that make an M5 a special drivers car. This one feels more like a very fast Bentley than a true M5. And that's why "everyone" is hating it. Imagine what this M5 would be if it was 2000Kg instead of 2400! 400Kg less! It would be a proper monster M5! Period.
As far as M styling, the E 39 M5 is the absolute winner. BMW has lost its way with the origami folds that truly take away from what it really could be. Less is more when it comes to the styling of a car that you're going to drive every day.
G90 is my favorite currently available BMW and probably my dream car right now but E39 is the best looking and sounding ( stock ) M5 ever made. It's so timeless and sexy, with luxurious interior and so slick. Sadly there's barely any left in good condition and low mileage so owning one is very costly.
To OP, *ALL* car companies are at fault (not only BMW). Sadly, no one uses "less is more" concept anymore. Fill a car with unnecessary junk to make it heavy, then charge premium for a lightweight version. Even Porsche does it, just look how heavy a regular 911 is now.
If I whas the bmw factori I while Bild a 1000 hospower e39 and a 820 hospower E46 1200 hospower e31 with the same interior just with new teknologi and Android 😂

I will say, a lot of people initially hated the E60 M5, and let's not forget the G80 M3 hatred. Yet now they are either beloved or at least liked. And for me personally having seen a lot of new 5 series due to holidays in Germany, it has grown on me already.
I can't believe how far I had to scroll to see this. Absolutely unreal how much that panel moved with every push. I'm pretty sure the aftermarket radio haphazardly shoved into an ill fitted slot on my $1500 beater Hyundai moves less than that.
Matt never covered the M Exhaust option…. As a BMW Fanboy, here are some extra things to note: -F90 M5 comes with 600 or 617 hp. Why do we lose HP in the G30 V8? -The seatbelt stitching has historically been reserved for competition models, now we see it in the base G30? -M Exhaust is a toggle to inject artificial engine noise into the cabin upon acceleration. Adding 500 kilos to make 110 extra HP is not a fair trade. It also hurts the power:weight ratio for tuning the G30 platform. This car is a flop and I hope BMW learns the same way MB learned with the new C63 that enthusiasts do not want hybrids. MB took note and gave us the new SL63. hopefully BMW can counter this flop with an improved gas-only M3 or M8 generation.
Cars nowadays just have no charisma, they all look like a cheap chinese knock off and its like the a competition for a tech race to cram as much inside as possible.
This is what happened with smart phones too... Except they try to make thinner and lighter (less materials and cheaper feeling while lowering cost of manufacturing/shipping) a "feature".
You've got to stop using "cheap Chinese knockoff" as a descriptor for bland western-made crap. The 'Chinese' are making much more exciting, innovate and relevant vehicles these days. Blame Klaus Schwab and co. - not the 'Chinese'.
Here's my main gripes with the M5 and 5 Series in general: - Those plastic kidneys. I understand they had to squeeze in sensors and whatnot in there, but you have these big swathes of black plastic with only small actual intakes lower down that just look like holes. No vertical or horizontal streaks or mesh, just two holes. It looks silly, and doesn't belong on a premium BMW. - The rear lights. If you removed the badging, sent the car back 5 years and asked people to have a guess at what brand of car it is, I doubt many people would've guessed BMW. It's generic. - The many sharp lines everywhere, and this is specific to the M5. It's not cohesive, and it doesn't flow with the rest of the car's styling. - EDIT: Oh yes, those rear fenders where they meet the rear doors are atrocious. They should've built in the widening into the doors, but obviously, the BMW beancounters won that argument, and it shows. Other than that, it's just another of the new breed of hybrid-lite super-saloon.
Agree with your statement about the front kidneys. They’re very ugly and unnecessary since they are mostly filled with shiny black plastic. I also don’t like the shiny black plastic throughout the rest of the front end. Shiny black plastic, whether on the inside or outside of a car, looks cheap. Manufacturers need to stop using so much of it.
It’s simple, it’s not just about performance, I don’t think many people have something negative to say in regards to the performance side of the car, it’s simply the aesthetics and how a few minor tweaks could result in a car that actually looks visually appealing. Hopefully this is something BMW can rectify in future models
@olivergreen2662 it has a V8, they got rid of the 12 cylinder. It's also officially got more horsepower than the new M5 and it weighs less than the new M5
I think it's quite colloquial when I say that there are 3 main reasons why the car gets so much hate: 1. It's slower than the previous generation, 2. I weighs about half a moon, and addressing the elephant in the room 3. It just looks ghastly. The F90 was one the best looking modern beemers. I would even go as far as calling the G90 off-putting to look at.
Its embarrassing that its slower for half a second than the F90 xd, this car is pure downgrade compared to other M5s which were always better than the last gen
@ I don’t, but this weight is unacceptable, I would rather that the put the 6 cylinder from M3 and added hybrid system and stayed somewhere around 2.1 or 2.2 tons
Thanks for the honest review Mat, don't think we've really had one thats been so truthful since this one. As a 3 time F90 M5 driver I was very disappointed with the initial views of the new M5, however I must admit when I saw it in the flesh at a dealership it looked a bit better than expected. Having said that I'm still going to keep my F90 for the moment, more than happy with it and your review has made me realise that in truth I don't think I can get a new M5 that out performs my one, not just for pure acceleration but the overall experience. Thanks again.
This makes remember my Golf R MK7, with a stage 2+ tune. It was as fast as this car 0-60, and in the quarter, but I had just $12K total invested in it (was a repaired salvage with 5K miles...1 year old). 3.35 0-60 and 11.1 quarter.
BMW M was never meant to be a powerful muscle cars. They used to be agile and dynamic. In old days, they were underpowered than AMG and Rs, and was not even a winner during drag race, but outperformed them on the track. That’s why we are so upset about new M5
Correct, it was a handling beast, not a power beast. In all comparisons with Mercs & Audis, BMWs were slower in the straights but blew them all apart on the track times.
Sadly the M5 has become a joke, the original M cars were ment to be subtle this is not. It’s also way to heavy and the only fun/feeling you get when driving it is down to the electronics.
Mercedes started implementing cost-cutting measures with the previous-generation A-Class and CLA, which surprisingly became some of the brand’s best-selling models. Over time, this strategy extended to other models, including the C-Class, and has now affected nearly the entire lineup, such as the CLE, E-Class, and, to some extent, even the S-Class. Similarly, BMW and Audi initially maintained high-quality interiors for entry-level models like the 1 Series and A3. However, with the latest generations, they too began using cheaper materials, a trend that has now spread to higher-end models like the 5 Series and Audi A6.
Do you realize the entire design, interior and branding of BMW is with gay, woke and lgbt people? This is what happens when they design stuff. Faggywokelesbiantrans MW
The E60 was nice and really stood out. The 7-Series, especially before the facelift, not so much. One could argue, after Bangle they went back to a more conservative and traditional design.
@@StopMediaFakery People keep saying this but I disagree. In my opinion the E60 still looks like garbage, possibly worse as now they are usually in a bit rough shape from the 8 seperate owners moving them on as soon as they get the first repair bill.
The interior is even uglier than the exterior. I would take a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing with a manual over this any day. For starters, it is $35k cheaper and is 576kg lighter. What the hell has happened to BMW? Who are they building these boats for?
@@eptdy will hello there, personal experienced seasoned veteran about the topic here, ☝ Cadillac‘s infotainment is actually leagues above that of bmw, friend.

0-60mph is meaningless with these 4wd, auto box clones. My bog standard Golf R 7.5 estate did 4.1. At this level, it's just a function of traction. What is shocking about this boat is having 774bhp and still taking 7.5s to get to 100mph.
618 at the wheels is still really good considering the power figures are engine dyno power figures. So 625 crank with all ancillaries and 618 wheel is actually very good
It’s a bit sad. I used to be an utter BMW-fanboy. Driving almost exclusively BMWs for 15 years (2er/M2, 3er/M3, 5er, X3, X5) and I really loved the cars - ending with one of my favorites, the G21 (340i and then M3). With the new gen of cars, BMW is curing me of this … I won’t pay premium-prices for scratchy plastic, no buttons and a weird touch interface for everything. On top more push towards subscription-model non-sense. Currently looking at a KIA EV9 for a new family car. If you’d have told me 10 years ago, I’d look at a Kia over a BMW, I would have laughed. Well. Laugh is on you, BMW, I guess. I will only drive these car as short-term and financially attractive company cars - but that’s how most of them are “sold” in Germany anyways.
I have had 4 BMWs and they were great - but that front end looks like shit - seriously - whoever designed that is not a designer - they must have done it as a joke, like the Emperor's new clothes nobody dared tell them
@irw4350 it doesn't have the enormous kidney reminiscent of the Ford Edsel. Still better than Honda who I was a fan of until they lost the plot. Edged their way back to just boring now perhaps. I mean beauty is in the eye of the beholder with wagons.
Every generation that came out since the e39. Every single bmw fan boy cries like a 3 year old that just got his candy taken away and claim the "last gen" was the last true bmw until the next gen comes out. Same thing over and over like a broken record. Just stfu and enjoy it.
Had a 2016 RS6 Performance loved it. Fast, comfortable and practical and made beautiful noises. Replaced it with a Tesla Model S Plaid in 2023. A huge upgrade in performance, much more efficient, much better infotainment and much lower maintenance and energy costs. The Tesla is technological far ahead. Looking at this new M5, I only see 2 advantages over the Plaid: more luxurious and makes nice noises. Not tempted as I prefer the significantly better performance, efficiency and infotainment in my Tesla model S Plaid.
If you think that is bad, wait until they need to be replaced! Porsche carbon ceramic brakes cost like $20K for four rotors and pads. Getting these as an option is always WAY cheaper than the parts.
Reviewers talk a lot of nonsense like "it hides the weight well" I experienced the F90 and it felt ALL of 2 tons heavy, I can't even imagine this thing.

Finally someone with a taste
To OP, *ALL* car companies are at fault (not only BMW). Sadly, no one uses "less is more" concept anymore. Fill a car with unnecessary junk to make it heavy, then charge premium for a lightweight version. Even Porsche does it, just look how heavy a regular 911 is now.

As a BMW Fanboy, here are some extra things to note:
-F90 M5 comes with 600 or 617 hp.
Knock off of what?
Yeah, it looks like a cheap Chinese knock off of a BMW. Nasty Asian looks, nasty weight, nasty handling, nasty looking cheap interior.
Like a GTA parody of a BMW 😂
This is what happened with smart phones too... Except they try to make thinner and lighter (less materials and cheaper feeling while lowering cost of manufacturing/shipping) a "feature".
You've got to stop using "cheap Chinese knockoff" as a descriptor for bland western-made crap. The 'Chinese' are making much more exciting, innovate and relevant vehicles these days. Blame Klaus Schwab and co. - not the 'Chinese'.
This car looks like a glitchy game graphics from the 2000's
Here's my main gripes with the M5 and 5 Series in general:
- Those plastic kidneys.

CLA has same spec as CLK 55.

My 2021 M550i xDrive purchased used (CPO) in June 2024 for 59,000 USD: 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.
This 2025 M5 on sale for 136,000 USD as tested: 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.
