So many connections. The wonderful Mike Nichols biography "Mike Nichols: A Life" (2021) is by Mark Harris whose husband is Tony Kushner; author of Angels in America (2003).
Great director with such an impressive body of work!: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Graduate, Carnal Knowledge, Working Girl, The Remains of the Day, Wolf, Closer....
George Stevens ! His A PLACE IN THE SUN (1951) is one of his many masterworks. Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift, Shelley Winters, Anne Revere, and a superb cast of supporting players with William C. Mellor's camera as a listening and provoking force. And there's an interior scene with Nathan Lane and Robin Williams in THE BIRDCAGE -- mid shot centered -- which shows how a great director can do something without ever seeming to. That's the art.
Absolutely enthralling!!! Mike Nichols was just the best! GET HIS BOOK if you haven't already read it!!! thanks for posting this!!
