@@67jdvann I'm a pastor, I know that you may not be religious and you don't have to be to talk to one, and the significant part is you are protected by clergy statute aka the cloth law. Many pastors know about combat or law enforcement chaplains are another excellent place to talk to someone who understands. I've been in a running G-fight so I understand more than most pastors, and I know how important it is to have someone to talk to.

You might want to take a look at Terrence Popp.
He jumped into panama with the rangers and was wounded. Then he joined the green berets. Then he was with Company F 425 of the michigan national guard where he was teamleader and platoon sergeant.. With them he deployed to iraq where he became NCOIC of abu ghraib and then 1st sgt of his company and was wounded again.
After that he stayed in the US military and did more than 30 years.
Now he has a show on yt and other plattforms and saves people lives. His current countover 500 lives saved. The count is of people who came forward and said that he prevented them to go for a permanent solution for a temporaty problem.
If it`s rediculous and wrong it`s redonkulas.

I’m from the northern Midwest. I was always taught to have contingencies in place through winter just in case. Winter sucks, it sucks even more and quickly when you are not prepared for issues in winter. Wool blankets, extra food, get home bag/items in the vehicle. Always get a vehicle with 4x4 capabilities. Etc. helps that I go ice fishing, so I can also use those items to help as well. Thanks to old school Boy Scouts for also teaching me a lot when you get before they became parent driven vs kid ran.

Me and my family live off grid in Maine. By solar and generator as a backup. I do come from a military Background. Most call me paranoid I don't see it that way. I grew up in the eighties. I think people are kind of brain washed and are just taking it easy when these hard times come we're not living like our parents used too hard. I can remember them having spare blankets in the back of a vehicle road flares so on so forth because that's how it was when there was a bad storm here in Maine when you got dropped with 3' of snow.. I feel like nowadays nobody is really prepared they just go upon their merry life thinking everything is going to be OK when they're never expecting the unexpected I will Always keep a blow out bag and 1st aid kit along with other gear . I only do these things because I love the ones that are closest to me and I wantna make sure that they are always safe and comfortable as well. Kick a** job Mike keep up the good work.would love to hear your thoughts

Regarding an EDC knife, I’m in the same boat as far as my utility vs. self defense knife.
I have and always will carry my Case Sodbuster because it suits my needs at work and is a great all around knife.
My self defense knife (which is also and EDC) is the Esee Inzula original, it’s a fixed blade that is very slim and I carry it everyday in a ambidextrous position so I can use my non-dominant hand.
    Just my 2cents.
    I appreciate you Mike.

Man, my dad gave me the first 3 Foxfire books when I was about 16. Such great literature. Until this day I have never heard anyone talked about them. He recently gave me a book by Clint Emerson about homesteading and it was equally good. Very very informative and above all it keeps the reader engaged.

Wouldn't trade it for nothing in the world. Taught me that there is more to life than money. Being self sufficient is the best way to go. You ain't beholden to nobody. Keep up the good work and thank you for your service. Without men like you we all would be Muslim or communist or some other shit.

Last year we had an ice storm here in Oregon, shut down power all over the city. We didn't have power for over a week, we weren't the priority for PGE. The only thing that was on was the natural gas so our gas fireplace worked so we took off the glass and slept in front of it. From watching your channel I decided that wasn't going to happen again so I bought a tri-fuel generator and connected it to my homes gas line and electric panel. It will run the whole house if you're selective of what you run. I also keep 20 gallons of fuel in case the gas went out. That should keep us going until the gas stations get back on track. Thanks for what you do

I have been going h.a.m. in the knife department as of late. My most recent acquisitions are a Spyderco Para 3, and a Spyderco Manix 2. Both of them are built like polymer and metal tanks, the edges are hair popping sharp as well. The Manix 2 was a bit heavy, I swapped out the scales for the AWT machined aluminum scales. Now the Para 3 and Manix 2 have the same weight. The AWT scales are rock solid, I am extremely satisfied with the product.

Mike, I grew up in the south, the foothills of Appalachia. I learned from a young age to always be prepared. Electric goes out, nor problem. Gas runs out, no problem. It got -18 creek froze over, no problem. Stock pile of food, tools that I need and a 100 lb. alarm system. I'm good, now alot of rain and if the creek gets up, it is 1.3 miles out the other way out and the nearest person that way is 1 mile. Come visit some time, I'll take you and yours fishing. Guarantee to catch!!!!

Watching Mike's channel while seeing current events unfold, I realize how important preparation is. I live in earthquake country and I would say less than a quarter of the homes are supplied with essentials should a significant earthquake occur. Media unfairly paints preppers as all doomsday/apocalypse preppers, people who think civilization is about to crumble in their lifetimes. I am realizing that there are lesser events that are just as deadly.
Mike has mentioned infrastructure a few times in his recent videos and, really, all it takes is a sudden climatic event over a large geographical area and it's you and the harsh elements and whatever you prepared ahead of time to soften the contact.

When selecting a backup generator for your home, consider what type of fuel it uses. Backup generators are rarely used so they may sit idle for months or years. This means that the fuel that you may have in reserve may sit for months or years. Liquid fuels expire and will go bad. Propane does not expire so it would be a good choice to power backup generators.

In tank fuel pumps are designed to be cooled by the fuel itself. So in hot weather running your fuel to low levels can shorten the life span of the pump.

I would like to add to your vehicle kit in the case of a bug in situation. You can purchase a battery powered Carbon Monoxide Detector that will alert you to high levels of CO, just make sure you have an extra set of batteries for the detector. I believe they run roughly 25.00 dollars at a home improvement store. Food for thought.

Mike mate, I have my demons, none of them from my time in the military. The one thing that is almost guaranteed to have me looking to stick my head in the oven is not being able to pay my bills. Over the past few years I have been laid off (this very nearly finished me off), getting work and then deciding to go self employed and then COVID hit and all my work dried up, I was fortunate then that I had my own van and ended up delivering for Amazon and racking up a shit load of debt just to keep my family fed. I now have a very good job that pays well and I’m getting by and paying back on my debt, but I also know that if anything happens to this job I would almost certainly finish it there and then. I know a few of my mates that have killed themselves and people automatically say it’s PTSD, they are partially right because they think this is due to what they’d done in the military whereas they were in very low paying, dead end jobs and had been for quite some time. This is more than likely why they decided to end it, just for not being able to manage their bills and not being able to get out of the dead end job. Just thought I’d give you my own personal perspective.

First, thank you for your service in the fight for freedom. And the second, one of the most despicable things is for service members to come home after risking their lives to make less than they ever did in the military. That is disrespectful to the duty they carried out, DVR is a program for veterans here in the US (Department of Vocational Rehabilitation) and is meant explicitly for vets to learn skills other than being 'pipe-hitters, knuckle draggers" because combat skills don't transfer into "real world" jobs unless wearing a uniform again is on the job list. Check out DVR in your state if, in the US, it may be called something else.

I have drawn my knife for self defense twice in my life so far. Both times for charging dogs that luckily heeded my roaring voice before I had to use the knife. And both times while I was walking with my dog and my girlfriend. I have carried a knife everyday for most of my life and pull one at least several times a day for utility purposes. Because of that it's a reflexive and automatic movement for me.
I mention this because both times I had drawn my knife I was surprised to see the knife deployed in my hand (folders both times, but I wear a fixed bushcraft style blade now) and ready to go without me even thinking to draw it. The knife was just there. I had not done any knife self defense training or had any other experience with knives aside from my daily use of them. If I had a separate knife for self defense I don't believe it would have been as seamless as it was for me to be armed in an attack.
I would recommend your utility knife be suitable as a self defense knife and you will automatically build a knife deployment training into your life every single day. It happened to me accidentally and has proven itself out in the real world twice already.
I am also a huge fan of Scandinavian grind knives. I work with knives in my professional life as well as being a carver and professional survival skills instructor. I've had occasion to know what edges work for the best utility, and there is nothing that offers the proprioception of a flat beveled scandi grind while working with wood. And lets face, unless we're cutting thru some packaging or a carcass, wood is 95% of what we cut with our knives. Scandi cuts thru flesh just fine for animal processing (or cutting an attacker), but meat processing blades do a crap job of processing wood. And quite frankly, you're more likely to save your life with a shelter made of wooden sticks and a fire built with wooden feather sticks then you are from processing an animal (which is still easy to do with a scandi knife.). Unfortunately there are very few good scandi folders.
My two cents. That's why I carry a bushcrafting knife, it does everything pretty darn well, is strong, and comfortable to use. And I know I can stab the hell out of someone with it if I need to.
    Be useful.

I love the West. Hiking once with wife South of Pueblo, CO near our off grid where the Rockies meet the Plains. Down one of those gullies ' and draws that lead to the Plains. I watched from 75 yards above as a single coyote barreled down on my wife, at full speed from behind, in the open, 200 yard sprint! I'm watching, she don't see it. But there was never any fear, I know this coyote spotted her from a distance, and as soon as it gets a good look at her it will turn and break...and that's just what happened. I never yelled, never pointed my rifle...was just like, " Hey, sweetie did you see that Crazy coyote."

Knives are very personal, and I would not presume to try and tell anyone what's the best knife for them, however, if you do not know where to start, I would suggest looking at what Spartan blades has to offer first as they have something for pretty much everyone, are not overly expensive, or consistently out of stock of everything. My personal favorite is the Harsey Difensa, whole lotta badass fixed blade for most occasions.

Insulation is key. Have a house now where it is 2x6 construction, good windows, spray foam insulation….at 10k feet in Colorado and didn’t have to turn heat on until November. Last house I had we would freeze to death without power/gas. Trying to make sure my kids have shovels, cat litter/sand, sleeping bags, insulated clothing, boots, tow rope in car along with some food. Water in yeti cooler hasn’t froze in my van yet with below zero temps daily. Just min. Great new thing is rechargeable battery to jump cars and recharge phone/sat device. An emergent beacon is a relatively cheap, long-term device. A solar generator is great too, I’m putting one with an electric blanket for my wife in the car. Shake and warms don’t take up much space. Camp stove, fuel, instant soup/coffee/tea…very small nowadays. Stay safe people! Don’t sue in your cars! Thinking Leatherman skeletool for utility and separate self defense knife…like that punch knife…need to try one.

I picked up a TOPS Street Scalpel 2 as my self defense knife. It also has a ulticlip on it so I can carry it in my pocket if I wanted but it's usually in my bag. I wanted something with a full length handle but didn't want a huge blade. It's been great. For my pocket knife it's either my Microtech or my Benchmade Griptilian.

My EDC blades are a Spyderco PM2 w/ ziptie mod and, when I'm not carrying my P365X, a Benchmade SOCP. For me, carrying a fixed blade in conjunction with a pistol is just too much stuff, and the spot I would carry the SOCP is occupied by a spare mag.

His current count is over 500 lives saved. The count is of people who came forward and said that he prevented them to go for a permanent solution for a temporaty problem.
If it`s rediculous and wrong it`s redonkulas.

If you have gas heating and have the property for it consider getting a gas turbine generator. You're burning the gas anyway for you heating, might aswell generate some power burning it. If you have a small flat or something there are even turbines generating electricity by using the gas pressure (not burning it) of the gas you're using anyway.

I carry a Microtech. It's REALLY easy and fast to open AND close, but the downside is, if you have anything on your hands, it's REALLY hard to open. If I weren't carrying that, I'd be carrying my Spyderco Gayle Bradley 2...it's the sharpest knife I've EVER seen!! I also have a fixed blade Spyderco SOCOM Mini on my plate carrier.

I use a Hultafors heavy duty knife.
Probably not the best on the market, but does really well and holds a decent edge.
I just use it at work (carpenter) for occasional things but it works well when in the woods etc too.
Only cost £10 in UK from a tool supplier.
I'm currently experimenting with making knifes from left over pieces of angle iron from work, i have a lot to learn but its interesting, pretty fun and satisfying to be know that you can learn to make them yourself .

Wood stove and rain catch for water. I've been out of power for over 4 days but running out of water for a few hours is terrible. Melting snow doesn't yield as much as you'd think. Serrations on a knife, for me, is a waste of space. I'm not sure serrations are better at anything,

Hello from Northern Cali! The county I live in just declared the state of emergency for the next week. Major flooding on some main road ways and 2000 pg&e customers in a near by city still have no power.
The parks around my house have bowl like grass areas that keep the major flooding away from the road ways. I was thinking sandbags, but does anyone have any suggestions for blocking any incoming water into home entryways?

The average car when sitting at idle(say stranded in a storm) can burn as much as a gallon of fuel per hour! If your car has a 12 to 15 gallon fuel cell, you can run out of fuel faster than you would think possible? Another reason to keep your tank topped off whenever possible.
