Yeti purchased the company a day after I was done editing, we will see how mystery ranch fairs this acquisition.
Today we look at the Mystery Ranches Terraframe 50. Is it a good choice for peppers, minutemen, and hunters?

Contact mystery ranch customer service. They sale bag only for most of product even including military lines. Probably not NICE frame though.
Thanks for the info!
The MR Overload is the military version of this and come with the NICE Frame. For organization, it has PALS webbing inside and outside where you can attach pouches. I got mine lightly used for $360 online from a surplus store. It also came with rifle and mortar tube pouches (used inside the overload). Mine is 10 years old, but there is barely a scratch and plenty of life left. It is built like a tank and weighs like one at 8 lbs.
"flatbed of backpacks" is a good way of describing it
So the frame gets in the way of rucking while wearing a plate carrier and helmet? Am I understanding that right?
Going prone is essentially impossible even without a helmet, the frame lurches forward into the back of your head, and yes with a helmet you can’t really use it, there just isn’t enough space.
@@schizosaint777 thanks, I'll have to pass on it then which is a shame because otherwise it's a great pack
In the grand scheme, it's a heavy bag in the current forecast of the ultralight market uprising. But man the T50 is die-hard rugged, uncomplicated, and while "heavy" it's insanely comfortable to wear. I've done a few backpacking trips now with it, with the total weight around 30-35lbs and I made it fine each time. No hot spots or discomfort from the bag (just tired legs from being a somewhat thicc boi). I do like this bag, and it's never going to fall apart. Haven't yet needed the overload feature, but if someone gets hurt on the trek you can literally put their bag in yours, and that's awesome.
Honestly my biggest downside is how the belt makes it impossible to lie flat with the zipper up. But that belt is what gives you the comfy ride. Also wish the area where your back contacts was more airflow like the Bridger series (which is even heavier than this bag). All in all though it's a great all around Do-Er. Great vid!
Hey thanks man I appreciate it! Ya this is certainly not an ultralight bag, but as a general do it all bag it’s pretty good. I do wish in hindsight I got the 65
@schizosaint777 I feel you there. When I pack out for a 3 day trip I'm pretty stuffed to the gills, with my tent lashed to bottom and not inside. But on the positive side it forces me to limit what I bring and cut needless things. But that's just from a backpacking perspective and not considering other applications.
I used an old Alice and beaver tail assault pack on the frame while I was deployed to Afghanistan.
As far as organization goes, I've found packing cubes really help. That was my only complaint with my mystery ranch metcalf.
Got this a few months ago before MR was bought out by Yeti, hoping this bag will be with me for decades to come. It's heavy, but the comfort and robustness is worth it imo, and yeah I definitely wouldn't buy this for shooting drills/larp. Besides this I also got the urban assault 21 as an every day city bag, thing is awesome. Love MR and their tri-zip, but I fear after this Yeti buyout the product quality might go down the drain. They're already marketing stuff for kids, I haven't seen them do that until now.
Ya MR is really branching out. Whenever a company broadens their audience their products tend to be worse overall
I've been curious about the Mystery Ranch bags and design - the tri-zipper approach and lack of organization is supposedly a plus, as it allows for quick and easy access to everything in one go, as opposed to having to root-around in a multi-chambered normal hiking/recon backpack.
...buuuuut, while I'm curious, I'm not three hundred and fifty bucks curious. Makes me wish there was a cheap knockoff somewhere that I could test to destruction to see if it's worthwhile to invest in.
The frame and overload feature is it what barely makes it worth it to me, if those aren’t that appealing to you there are certainly better uses of your money for a pack in my opinion. I’m super curious about the rush 100, I love the rush 24
This is damned good detailed review.
Thanks man!
I do need a new bag, it's more annoying than it should be when my bag starts to slump over as I take everything out of it. I need a serious bag.
These take very well to lighter loads, you can always sinch them down
Great review!
Need to get me one
Based and woodspilled
I’ve used this pack while wearing a helmet for night vision hikes. I find that it’s possible for that use you just have to play with the adjustment. The comfort is totally worth it in my opinion. Yeah 100% not going prone in it. I’ve thought about ghetto rigging QD setup to the straps for a “reaction to contact set up”
I’ve thought about the same thing with the QDs. Almost done with my NV setup so it will be fun to play around in
