Penny Wong ‘makes absolute mincemeat’ of Australia's defence hierarchy over Afghanistan

  • Sky News host Alan Jones says Labor Senator Penny Wong “made absolute mincemeat” of Australia's defence hierarchy during this week’s Senate Estimates hearings into the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
When Senator Wong asked General Angus Campbell when he was aware the embassy would close, he replied it was not a defence responsibility.
“Senator Wong asked the critical question, did defence or anyone provide advice to the government about the implications of the closure of the embassy, and Campbell says it’s not a defence responsibility,” Mr Jones said.
“These people are running our defence and security - how Penny Wong remained patient, I do not know.”
Mr Jones said General Campbell also appeared to know nothing about who decided not to be part of the US airlift or the evacuation of visa holders.
He discussed the issue with humanitarian advocate Dr Kay Danes.
“It’s a real travesty watching our government department struggle the way they did for just providing simple answers to very simple questions,” she said.

Western nations spent 20 years training the Afghanistani military, so they knew how to defend themselves yet they took less then 20 days to drop their guns and turn their back on the opportunity of democracy.
Talk about voting with your feet.
Obviously most of them prefer living under the herion overlords known as the Taliban.
Time for those who are not Afghanistani citizens to accept that the Afghanistani people have spoken.
And no Western nations should not accept so called refugees from these fractured nations.
Leave the strong smart people their to help fix their nations stop stealing all of their educated and talented to live in western nations they need their doctors their engineers their lawyers their architect's etc.

I'm not surprised that the General was not prepared to answer those questions given that the Australian Defence Forces, like their British counterparts, are under the control and authority of the elected Government of the day and cannot therefore say or do anything which could or would embarrass that Government, "Civilian control of the Military" and all that. What's more, I'm sure the Army were infuriated at the politicians slowness in decision making and the lack of warning they were given when it was decided to close the Embassy and evacuate all personnel.

they were sent to afghanistan with rifles that had reconditioned barrels
(worn smoothbore after having hundreds of thousands of rounds fired through them, and then having a chemical gunk poured into the barrel to set hard to allow armourers to carve new rifling into the gunk, which would last a mere few tens of thousands of rounds)
because the politicians REFUSED to buy extra barrels, spare barrels. For a rifle that EXPLICITLY was bought BECAUSE it has a super quick change barrel. slot on and off bing bang boom.
and the poor bastards were sent there with JUST enough ammo to support exactly 15 minutes of fighting. over the whole country. they sent infantry men into battle with like, 4 mags each or some crap. our entire stockpile of ammo wasn't enough to sustain combat for longer than a few MINUTES.
it got so bad that western nations had to buy entire stockpiles of .223 and close-enough calibres and jury rig convert them to 5.56 that'd work in the m-series rifles, the sa80, the f88. which meant the ammo our boys WERE getting was JUNK. lots of fouling, slag, failures to fire.

Make a simple pass for the people.
Just like the vaccine pass, issue it to everyone but the police & government officials.
(It may/may not indicate the individual's vocation)
Place a simple scanning device at all your malls, counters, cashiers & eating places.
If a person is not able to scan, deny entry or simply don't serve that individual.
You don't need their dirty money anyway.
This way, hopefully you guys can start ostracizing the real virus from society.
Singapore is bad if not worse. Our police & government is too integrated with society, its complicated.
If you think this plan might work, please share & forward it to as many people as soon as you can.

Shows just how exceptionally incompetent Peter Dutton actually is. He's the defence minister after all, so the buck stops with him. He should resign from politics immediately!

Military are not politicians. They follow orders. Penny should be going after the answers she wants from the defence minister. Penny knows this and so do you Allan.

I'm more concerned about the poor Australians left stranded in Australia as the fascist government unleashes a psychological warfare on it's own people.

When the U.S. fled Vietnam, I had an acquaintance at the U.S.Army Command and General Staff College.
He told me that the day after Saigon fell, it was like Vietnam never existed. It wasn't discussed and the military moved on.
It's pretty obvious that if you ally with the U.S., you do so at your own peril. I don't relish saying this as a veteran.

Why did the current Federal Government extend Campbell's term as CDF? The man is a public servant not an Army General.

Murdered and murderer is/are not the correct term/s to use for these deaths and the operative. Unfortunately Australia was an invading force and this man was a partisan operative. A soldier. What he did is terrible, yes we want him. No he is not a murderer. He is an enemy soldier undercover. The french partisans who killed German soliders all the while service as civil defence along side them during German occupation were not murderers, nor is this man. Not trying to paint him in a rosey picture at all. But to the other side he is sadly a hero. We should not paint him as a murderer as it then becomes all to easy to label our own soldiers the same. Such are the tragic costs of war.

General Campbell, my impression as a concerned citizen is that you are not the person we need for the very critical defence of OUR COUNTRY going forward. Would not it be best if you took early retirement now?

Penny Wong has always been very impressive at weeding out answers to questions some people don't want to answer. Just look at those guys with their folded arms, Campbell needs to be replaced, and take a few of his mates with him...
