Thanks a lot Greyson. Welcome to the channel! I struggled with the climbs at Government Canyon. Hoping cooler weather makes them slightly more bearable
Holy crap! Pardon the pun, but you "rocked" that ride! My legs were burning just watching y'all pulling those climbs. And, I feel ya on the heat, being that I live in Bastrop, several miles from where you were. Great ride, excellent footage, and I'm beat just from watching! It also was very motivating for me. Gonna go ride a local trail right now as a matter of fact! Always cool watching your vids.
Cobra Kyle , appreciate your reply. I actually live by the north shore of Lake Bastrop. Got a 9 mile round trip from north shore to south shore and back. Can stretch it to about 12.5 with a couple of side loops. Mostly easy stuff with some intermediate hills and sugar sand for fun. Some spots a little rocky too. Best is Rocky Hills ranch outside of Smithville. That has really turned into a great place to ride, thanks to "freeride 512!". You can google both to see what I mean. Anyway, thanks for all the inspiration and motivation from your videos. May just see/meet up with you on a trail someday. Be safe big guy! Roy
Thanks! San Antonio and Austin have a lot of great trails to offer. You could take a trip out here and stay pretty occupied. Houston is on my to do list one of these days. Don't hear a whole lot about it, but I bet it has some good spots.
Yeah there are a few I like. Terry Hersey park , a few spots in Sugarland and like one other place called Cypress Creek , but unless you are in the area I would say it isn't worth making a trip over here. It's not like San Antonio or Austin but I have been able to progress a ton by riding in the area so I'm not going to complain.
"scorching heat is killing my motivation and will to live" LOL! I feel you bro, I live in San Antonio and feel that way every summer hehehe, let alone go MTB in that heat. Thanks for sharing!
I thought I was gonna die the day I filmed this lol. I actually haven't been back here since but I want to go. It's just far from where I live and it floods easily when the weather is cooler. I won't be out there in the summer again. I've been waking up at 6am lately to go ride with the hopes of being done by 8 or 9. The heat seems even more extreme this year adding insult to injury with everything else going on.
Just found this video. Awesome video. Not sure if you have gone back to Government Canyon, if not you need to ride Joe Johnston to Far Reaches. It will blow your mind. I have ridden it several times on my Gaint Talon 29er 2 and I LOVE IT. Thanks again for the video.
I actually haven't been back since this trip. I'll keep those trails in mind. I've been thinking about this place a lot since it has been so long that I was there. I'm thinking I might bring the hardtail myself and see how that goes!
I just got into mountain biking. Been riding OP for a few months now. Would you recommend this for someone with a hardtail? I don't really think I should get an FS yet without experiencing all kinds of trails with my HT. My friend and I are looking to try more trails. Thanks for the quality videos Kyle!
Hi Daniel! First of all thank you for the compliment! This place would for sure be a challenge on a hardtail, but all the more rewarding if you can do it. Paul who's in this video was riding a hardtail and was able to keep up with the full suspension crew. Definitely ride that hardtail as much as humanly possible, then determine if a FS is truly needed. I honestly miss having a hardtail and periodically look for one to buy. Luckily the weather is cooling down, as Government Canyon provides little shade or water refills out on the trail. Let me know if you ever make it out there and what you think!
Good video, appreciated hearing the audio overlay. Suggestion tho, throw in some B-Roll footage to split up the constant Chestie-Go-Pro-Mount. It doesnt take much, just a few seconds of scenery or bikes here and there.
Man...I'm kind of glad I didnt go hahah. I can only imagine how miserable that must have been in the heat. I wouldnt mind trying in winter though. College Cobra Kyle looked like a pretty cool guy lol
College Cobra was an interesting dude haha. It was a pretty tough ride, but glad I went anyways. This may be my new favorite place to ride once the weather cools down!
Just rode there yesterday for the first time! The climbs are no joke, but the descents definitely pay off! Solid content, you've got a new subscriber!
Thanks a lot Greyson. Welcome to the channel! I struggled with the climbs at Government Canyon. Hoping cooler weather makes them slightly more bearable
@@CobraKyle thanks! We definitely struggled with the climb for sure, but we will be back up there Saturday morning to try it again!

haha! Thanks Roy! What's the local trail in Bastrop? Appreciate you watching the videos!

Great Park! It’s a few minutes from my house!
Definitely very technical...and unforgiving when you crash...but super fun!
Thanks for the video!
That's cool you live so close to it. I actually haven't been back since this day, but wanna go again before the summer heat strikes.
I totally felt that climb as I was watching! lol
Very impressive ride, especially in this heat, cobra Kyle! Happy you weren't hurt when you fell.
Thanks. I'm glad I didn't get hurt on such a stupid tumble. I'm excited for the fall
Great video! I really want to stop by San Antonio some time. I'm kind of running out of trails in Houston.

Thanks for the info! I was thinking of checking out Sam Houston National Forest one of these days. Maybe take a stab at bikepacking
Yeah Sam Houston might be a good idea! I've never really been but I bet they have something there.

Dude this trail is exactly what i love in a trail awesome time👍🚲🚲
You gotta come down then! A lot of Austin is like this as well. I won't know how to act when I ride a smooth rock-less trail haha
Great vid, mas excellent climbing, and we need to get out there again. Great run!
I look forward to going back here! Thanks for showing us around.

Awesome vid!!! I was totally ok after that fall... Then the next day came and I was not ok lol. Fun stuff man
haha I can only imagine the day after pain. Glad it wasn't worse. It was a fun day!

Looks like a blast.
Totally is! Reminded me a bit of Barton Creek Greenway, but potentially more rocky if you can imagine that.
I am not a big fan of CHUNKY except in peanut butter. I guess it is hard to find trails in Texas that aren't though.
haha. I love that chunky peanut butter. I've come to like chunky riding cause it's just about all we got lol.
Good video, appreciated hearing the audio overlay. Suggestion tho, throw in some B-Roll footage to split up the constant Chestie-Go-Pro-Mount. It doesnt take much, just a few seconds of scenery or bikes here and there.
Thanks! I usually try and get B-roll, but remember that day being so hot I just wanted to die the whole time and get it over with haha.
There are bike trails????
Yeah, riding that much chunk in TX heat will drain you quickly!
haha yeah. Took no time at all to feel like I was on the verge of dying.
GC is a leg killer and always a hard landing.
You aren't kidding! My arms and legs were spent after this ride.
Been hiking out there was so pretty! Wish I had brought my bike
Yeah it's a great place! I've hiked it as well and enjoyed my time. Slightly more fun on a bike though :)
I have hiked GC, I do not think me or my hardtail would make it. Maybe in the winter.
Oh it was so miserable out there in the summer. I don't know what I was thinking. I wanna go back before summer to try it out again.
Man...I'm kind of glad I didnt go hahah. I can only imagine how miserable that must have been in the heat. I wouldnt mind trying in winter though. College Cobra Kyle looked like a pretty cool guy lol
Chris CXK that heat though

Chunky, chunky!
Govt canyn is rocky, coudl of told u that
But you didn't :( So I had to go find out for myself haha
@@CobraKyle ohhhh, yes sir, u shut me up.lol
Have a good ,sir👍👍👍
does not look fun
haha. Yes and no. Depends on who you ask. I like the challenge of it every now and then, but would not want to ride this type of stuff every ride.
It looks like it would annoy the shit out of me. Can’t even gain some speed because of the rocky conditions.
