I had an ‘87 S10 long box with the non-venerable 2.8L V6 as a winter beater. It was the exact opposite of everything that your truck represents. It’s been a few years now but I used to have nightmares that I had tucked it away in my father’s barn in its decrepit state. Thankfully it went to the scrapyard 20+ years ago and the memories I don’t want to relive.
I had a 1967 Fairlane GTA with a 428cj with quite a few modifications and made 600+ to the rear wheels in 1990-1993. With the compression it had I ran it on aviation gas. Full body all steel, full interior and with slicks it ran 10.32@138mph in a1/4 mile. It was a hand full on the street even as a car that weighed 3600lbs. I've owned a few old classic muscle cars up to a 2014 Mustang 5.0 performance package car starting with my first car a 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7. I am retired but I get the addiction because that's what it is, isn't it great?!! I have a project 1998 Mustang GT that getting the money/parts together to put another motor in it. Leave the all original Syclone and build a tribute highly modified version that won't make you cry it you blow it up.
I went looking for one about 20 years ago, the ones I found were trashed. VERY cool truck Austin, lucky dog. That truck just hooks and books. I admit, I am a bit jealous. I also looked for a Grand National, but the ones I found were either $$$$$$ or trashed. That truck would be great for Power Tour. Looking forward to The Church of bad decisions. That truck would be awesome on a power tour. Comfortable, air conditioning, guessing cruise control and can haul the mail. You looked kind of miserable last year on the tour, this would be like a night and day difference. Really enjoyed the video, can tell you love that truck - you're very lucky to have it.
Love every single S-series truck GM ever made, I Have had many including my first truck was an 87' 4cyl 4speed heat was the only comfort thing it even had, zero options, not even a radio. I still have my 1982 S-10 SBC 355, B&M TH350 trans, w2700 B&M stall, Wilwood brakes, QA-1 and Bell tech suspension.
They ARE super rare up they still exist, unfortunately most people who own them never drive them. Will say the first time I stopped for gas I had 4 different groups of people come up to check it out, none of which had seen one in person before.
Most people got rid of these vehicles as old used cars or unfortunate family situations! That sucker is definitely quick! It makes me sick when family members that are not car people force people to get rid of vehicles as junk 😡! You’re very fortunate ❤️❤️😊💯
I am 77 years old and I have the 1937 chevy 2 door sedan that I drove to high school I am street rodding it now with a 53 ls that has been steeped on a little I was a service manager in gm shop for 30 years we had gmc when the syclone came out boy was that ever fun.
The vehicle I had the most fun with was a 1984 Dodge Colt. It had a 1.8L Turbocharged and fuel injected 4 cylinder engine, with an 8 Spd trans. 4spds plus a high-low range selector and 13" wheels. I got it for a couple of hundred bucks because it was too rusty to pass vehicle safety inspection. I took it apart and completely rebuilt the strut towers, the front fenders and the drivers side door. The range selector was frozen solid. With a bit of heat and a lot of penetrating oil I got it working again. I adjusted the clutch linkage, replaced the entire exhaust system with a. 2 1/2" straight pipe and put a set of 185/60 x13 tires on it. It was just about as close to the ultimate sleeper as you could hope to get. All the repairs I did were within the body shell so with a bit of care I was able to leave the original white enamel paint un damaged so it looked almost stock. The only "give aways" were the tires and exhaust. The high point of it's career was racing a Toyota RX-7 up interstate 95 at speed in excess of 120MPH. Father forgive me for I have sinned!

What a great era, late 80s through the mid 90’s made the people who are picking up today’s car culture from the old-timers.

Btw I made up for my losses when I picked up a mint Toyota Supra, the 2nd generation that established the 2JZ. Yeah I was the first to get into the 9s with a car with no roll bar, air conditioning, and stock leather seats on a drag radial. This video put a smile on my face that I forget I could still make. Generation X will go down in history as the best time in history to ever be alive, I guarantee it😎..... a TH-cam creator that lives in my town and is living this dream in today’s world is a guy who channel is called Legitstreetcars if you want to check out as well, I’m just a subscriber, no affiliation though.

I have a 1992 Typhoon and it has a set of 80 pound injectors, a hellcat fuel pump, a turbotweak chip (with premium and E85 tunes), deleted the EGR, 3 bar map sensor, 160 degree thermostat and run it on E85....When I drive it most people don't even know what it is. I love when the kids in their Mustangs and rice honda's pull up next to me at a red light thinking they are going to beat the little Blazer........their jaw drops when I completely blow them away. Fun fast little trucks that are rare. 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds. It will hook up on gravel.....
That's part of why it's sooooo tempting to modify, getting into the 11s or better.... knowing how I am it would happen. If it were ANY other car there's a good chance it would happen but we've had this thing 30+ years and haven't touched it yet... I dunno maybe I'm nut but feel like should keep it original. But MAN is it tempting! And yes, dusting just about anything from a light is super fun 👍 👌
I always liked the Cyclone and Typhoon. They were cool. I liked them better than the Dodge Stealth and Mitsubishi 3000 both AWD. This was my dream truck. Thanks for the video.

Nice truck, definitely don't see a Syclone in this condition every day. Recently saw a GM Syclone Restomod in a full size version ... GM definitely needs to get onboard and make it happen, it looks Badass !!
BTW, If you want to check out a really odd ball from back in the day, search for the V8 Beretta AWD prototype. My buddy and I always said we were going to V8 swap our Berettas. But it was hard enough to change the plugs with a V6, much less a V8.
My buddy had a 95 S10 SS when I was in high school that he tried to turbo the 4.3 unsuccessfully as we didn't have the technology we have now back in 1998 so he ended up v8 swapping an LT1 into it and was obviously fast. I say that because we had a Syclone in our neighborhood that we raced quite a few times and NEVER were able to beat stop light to stop light because of that AWD.
My father had a 92 Sonoma GT black with the same interior but non turbo still a pretty quick truck back in the day. He blew the engine and sold it before I could swap a 350 sbc in it not sure if that truck is around still.
I worked with a Chinese fellow that had one of those. He is the most "American" Chinese person ever as evident by his vehicle. He and the hotrod pickup define the Church of bad decisions.
so my first car at the tail end of 1986 was a lightly used, and very rare, 1985 Ford Escort gt turbo. Fords new performance group SVO's first offering. i wanted a Mustang GT, but my Dad knew better, and he co-signed my loan on the Escort. my first bad decision in the auto world. it was a fun car, and it was really fast. so fast that it easily hung with my buddies IrocZ camaro. got my first ticket in that car, and for a decade or two it was downhill after that lol. 2 years later in 1987 my senior year in high school, early spring i traded in the Escort GT on a used 83 mustang gt with T-tops. first street race in that car on Woodward ave, i got beat by a blue 4 door Dodge Omni GLHS👍. id love to have both of my first two cars back today. theres actually debate on the internet that the 83-85 Escort GT turbos even existed so few were made, well i had one, it was a 1.6L british Kent motor with a T3 style turbo blown through a carb, with limited slip 5 speed FWD.
I always wondered if GM did anything to that 4.3 besides stick a turbo on it??? Cam? Forged pistons? Did they do anything to it? I have a friend that took over the payments on another guys Grand National that was about to get repoed. He had it for about 2 months before the guy took it back! Talk about bad decisions! And lessons learned.
@@overlybuilt5110 are you running stock heads? Compression on THIS on is about 9 : 1 so would have to keep boost low or we're gonna get into some bad sounds
@@LucoreAuto we are running propane, so we are able to run more compression (9.6:1) engine is stock with only forged pistons, Comp 256H cam and R4B intake. Also ARP rod, main and head bolts. Propane is 105-110 octane, similar benefits and tuning to E85 but dry fuel vapor.
I got ruined when I was 4-5 years old and my brother had a friend with a black 68 camaro 327 4 speed, that car did it for me. Then the movie better off dead cancer out and I watched and recorded that movie just cause of the camaro. Now I’m telling my age 😂
There are a ton of awesome rides from this era, fortunately we have a couple of them, unfortunately they are all climbing fast out of enthusiast pricing and into investor pricing. As for HRPT... maybe. Not sure how well it would be received AND we have soooo many other cool rides we could potentially bring for this year!

The fastest most fun and cheapest Hot Rods I owned. A story behind each car.
If you saw at the end of the video, I've definitely got a soft spot in my heart for the 6G72 platform with my Stealth RT/TT! Turbo swaps on these things aren't TOO terrible, as long you have access to a lift!
Definitely tune but only modify what can be reversed back to stock. Power tour definitely. Bad decisions....only in the eyes of the wife. Church of bad decisions we have all probably been there with a hot rod or two, but a Cyclone never! Even my 91 2.8s10 was a rusty but mostly trusty truck I wish I still had and if it wasn't for Bambi I would still have, as a first for my 15 n half to begin learning with an uncommon three pedal system

Nice truck, definitely don't see a Syclone in this condition every day. Recently saw a GM Syclone Restomod in a full size version ... GM definitely needs to get onboard and make it happen, it looks Badass !!

BTW, If you want to check out a really odd ball from back in the day, search for the V8 Beretta AWD prototype. My buddy and I always said we were going to V8 swap our Berettas. But it was hard enough to change the plugs with a V6, much less a V8.
My buddy had a 95 S10 SS when I was in high school that he tried to turbo the 4.3 unsuccessfully as we didn't have the technology we have now back in 1998 so he ended up v8 swapping an LT1 into it and was obviously fast. I say that because we had a Syclone in our neighborhood that we raced quite a few times and NEVER were able to beat stop light to stop light because of that AWD.

My father had a 92 Sonoma GT black with the same interior but non turbo still a pretty quick truck back in the day. He blew the engine and sold it before I could swap a 350 sbc in it not sure if that truck is around still.

I worked with a Chinese fellow that had one of those. He is the most "American" Chinese person ever as evident by his vehicle. He and the hotrod pickup define the Church of bad decisions.
so my first car at the tail end of 1986 was a lightly used, and very rare, 1985 Ford Escort gt turbo. Fords new performance group SVO's first offering. i wanted a Mustang GT, but my Dad knew better, and he co-signed my loan on the Escort. my first bad decision in the auto world. it was a fun car, and it was really fast. so fast that it easily hung with my buddies IrocZ camaro. got my first ticket in that car, and for a decade or two it was downhill after that lol. 2 years later in 1987 my senior year in high school, early spring i traded in the Escort GT on a used 83 mustang gt with T-tops. first street race in that car on Woodward ave, i got beat by a blue 4 door Dodge Omni GLHS👍. id love to have both of my first two cars back today. theres actually debate on the internet that the 83-85 Escort GT turbos even existed so few were made, well i had one, it was a 1.6L british Kent motor with a T3 style turbo blown through a carb, with limited slip 5 speed FWD.

I always wondered if GM did anything to that 4.3 besides stick a turbo on it??? Cam? Forged pistons? Did they do anything to it? I have a friend that took over the payments on another guys Grand National that was about to get repoed. He had it for about 2 months before the guy took it back! Talk about bad decisions! And lessons learned.

@@overlybuilt5110 are you running stock heads? Compression on THIS on is about 9 : 1 so would have to keep boost low or we're gonna get into some bad sounds
@@LucoreAuto we are running propane, so we are able to run more compression (9.6:1) engine is stock with only forged pistons, Comp 256H cam and R4B intake. Also ARP rod, main and head bolts. Propane is 105-110 octane, similar benefits and tuning to E85 but dry fuel vapor.
Looks like you need a wiper motor pulse board if your wipers are stuck randomly on your windshield. I have had 5. Currently have a Sy and a Ty.
I got ruined when I was 4-5 years old and my brother had a friend with a black 68 camaro 327 4 speed, that car did it for me. Then the movie better off dead cancer out and I watched and recorded that movie just cause of the camaro. Now I’m telling my age 😂

There are a ton of awesome rides from this era, fortunately we have a couple of them, unfortunately they are all climbing fast out of enthusiast pricing and into investor pricing.
As for HRPT... maybe. Not sure how well it would be received AND we have soooo many other cool rides we could potentially bring for this year!

If you saw at the end of the video, I've definitely got a soft spot in my heart for the 6G72 platform with my Stealth RT/TT! Turbo swaps on these things aren't TOO terrible, as long you have access to a lift!

Definitely tune but only modify what can be reversed back to stock. Power tour definitely. Bad decisions....only in the eyes of the wife. Church of bad decisions we have all probably been there with a hot rod or two, but a Cyclone never! Even my 91 2.8s10 was a rusty but mostly trusty truck I wish I still had and if it wasn't for Bambi I would still have, as a first for my 15 n half to begin learning with an uncommon three pedal system
