Check out the DIY guest bathroom makeover that has been 5 years in the making and one of the last rooms to receive the gold star treatment in my home.
I was inspired by my travels and wanted the guest bathroom to feel like you stepped into a chic European boutique hotel. I love the look of antique encaustic cement tiles, like something you’d find salvaged from an old courtyard. While bright, white, and airy spaces are typical for DIY bathroom makeovers, when it comes down to it- I’m inspired by glamour, invigorated by color, and can’t ever say no to brass!
Even if your style is not glam or colorful or DIY, I hope you get some great inspiration and cool ideas to endeavor your own bathroom makeover.
Remember to start small. Give yourself a timeline, a budget, and just GO! Make one decision after the next, don’t look back and don’t wait to prioritize surrounding your home with beauty and delight. Your best design is waiting just around the new year!

I'm so impressed at how hands on you were with this project and limiting yourself to doing one particular part of a project per day is brilliant. Can you do a wallpaper series (when, where, why, and how to use and remove). Thoughts on wallpaper designs in small spaces like bathrooms. Never thought about using wallpaper on the ceiling especially in a bathroom lol
Powder rooms are my favorite areas for wall to wall wallpaper. Packs such a punch in a small space. I love this idea!! Will queue it up 🙌🏻

Maybe this is a stupid concern, but all I can think of is the steam from the shower/bathtub making the ceiling wallpaper curl up and fall off. It's a really stunning look though.
@@estherruth4692 really I have done the same. Not that same beautiful paper but it stuck for 15 years. She primed the ceiling then pasted the wall AND the paper.

Incredible!! We just moved into our first house, and I have no idea what my style is. I've been super overwhelmed at the thought of pulling this house together - dont even know where to start - but your style series has truly helped me take the first steps. I'm not creative, and you make styling approachable for my "Type A" accountant brain 😂
Some thoughts I've had that I'd love to see in videos: mixing and matching shapes in a space, warm tones vs cool tones throughout the house, and room transitions - i.e., colors and style from hallway to bedroom, from kitchen to living room, etc.

I'm a newcomer to your channel and have just taken the time to watch your videos from the beginning. I'm learning lots! I particularly liked your Common Design Mistakes series, especially for bedrooms and living rooms, but really all the episodes were helpful. I watched some multiple times. And your lesson on how to style beds was particularly helpful, too. I was seriously stuck on what to do with my master bedroom until I watched that episode. Thanks to you, I know what to do now and I'm moving forward. I can't wait to watch your Awkward Spaces series and whatever will come after that. I'm so grateful for your channel. As I learn from you I'm feeling more and more confident in making big changes around my house. The project that's the scariest will be the near total gutting and re-make of my ancient kitchen and adjacent dining room. I'm very comfortable working with a general contractor but I've never worked with a designer or architect before and it's clear that I'm going to need to on this project. (I want to extend the footprint of my house to make these rooms less cramped and add a new second story space overhead.) I could really benefit from any tips you might have on what to consider when hiring and working with these professionals, similar to your episode on hiring a general contractor. Very well done. You should give yourself a nice reward. I used to do a lot of this myself. You worked very very hard on this job. The paints are very messy and hard to remove lots of waste with the brushes and rollers and high VOC which is not good for the baby. Keeps those windows open when doing that!!! Also I like that you do good prep work like taping. Many professional painters do not tape and it shows!!!Tapingis a pain but gives that professional finish and it’s fun to take it off and see those perfect lines!!! Removal of the vanity fixtures is very hard work. You must be very strong. I hope you get to enjoy this room for many years! You should be very proud of your work.

I really liked the idea of painting the old tiles to I am ready to commit to a full remodel. Of course it does not help the vanity being in a second room...maybe I can find a way to make it a make up station that will again, be a bridge to a full remodel. Loved the stenciled floors! It’s still holding up well today with a ton of foot traffic and minimal wear Frances! The top coat sealer for the stencil is everything 👍🏻
So glad you did the tub and tile. Previous buyer chose baby blue tiles in my master bath and second bathroom for counters and shower and it is hideous. I don’t have the money to replace them so instead I wanted to paint but wasn’t sure how it would work. I didn’t want to end up with worse look than I already am in. lol. I have watched others but theirs weren’t as detailed in the process as yours.
I also had to remove my pedestal in my powder room. Those things are space wasters. Luckily, I don’t remember having a middle screw and I had to do it all alone (single woman in socal).
Great job on stenciled. That took a lot of patience! Love the new vanity and chandelier!!

Wow you hit a homerun. I wouldn't have wall papered the ceiling over a humidity filled shower. If you only use the tub for your little one's bath...no problem. Love all the white tile and wall, flooring contrast. But the vanity was it! You did a fabulous job. Thank you for all of your inspiration during this long 2020 lockdown. Happy New Year!
Humidity and heat are definitely factors for placement of wallcovering. But yes, we only use this bathroom to bathe the baby and if guests need to shower, which has only been a handful of times in the 5+ years I’ve lived here. Thank you for watching Deborah! Happy New Year 🎆
