They came to regret the backwards-facing car seats because when it came to filming, the traditional close-up shots of the driver ,when edited with longer shots that showed the car speeding along, had an unwanted jarring effect on the viewers, especially if they were new to the show and didn't know about the deliberately rear-facing seats. This led to them adding dialogue to explain the orientation of the driver e.g. when re-fuelling the petrol pump attendant would remark on the innovation and ask the driver if it was difficult to drive facing backwards. @@iconicshrubbery

In the first series they had this special system that tried to mimic extreme emotions too, and it reeeeeeally didn't look good XD so they stopped using it after season one..... honeslty those faces got horrific or comedically funny lol
I love the different take on alien life in this show. The Mysterons were never hostile beings and didn't have the idea of attacking them. They wanted to welcome humans to their world.
And yet they're not intelligent enough to comprehend that the expedition from Earth only attacked them because the mechanism that was observed resembed a gun. A race like that would almost certainly be known for starting agressions against others over misunderstandings.
Yeah the humans were the bad guys in this. They invaded and shot first. The production values in this show are truly amazing. So much better than multi million dollar Hollywood productions of today. Without crap CGI and al that stuff with identity politics. Hell, all the Angel pilots were women. The storylines were so far ahead of their time and really scary but thrilling. Gerry Anderson, we love you ❤
@@bogusmogus9551 I find that argument illogical. It would be like saying police officers who accidentally killed kids who pointed realistic looking toy guns at them are bad guys. The humans had no way of knowing that the device wasn't destructive. It looks like a weapon.
If only Captain Black had just said "Sorry, my bad" things could have worked out different. Also, bit of a over reaction on the Mysterons part, they rebuilt their base instantly, so no real harm done, and i don't blame them for being mad at Capt Black. But to decide to kill all life on Earth! 😲 Bit of a dick move.
Being indestructible, he's got these great facial expressions, like "christ, not the bloody spikes AGAIN" or, "off a building again is it? Here we go again then".. ⭐👍
Hollywood actors, with their CGI and multi million dollar budgets cant come with anything near as good as Gerry. This stuff is over 50 years old. Their marionettes were better actors than the assh*les they have in their multi million dollar holly'wood' productions. Those 'actors' are plastic, cant act without the help of some CGI. Boll*cks to them. Gerry is the real deal
Gerry and Sylvia made a point to break down racial barriers throughout their work and immediately show human nature when the expedition fired on something they didn’t understand......❤
Remember watching this for this first time on BBC 2 in the late 90s along with thunderbirds when i was really young. Use to watch them with my late dad and to this day captain scarlet is still one of my favourite shows to watch. Many happy and cherished memories watching them with him. My dad had a lot of captain scarlet and thunderbirds on video and they use to be my go to watch along with his only fools and horses videos whenever i was off sick from school.
Still to this day, a television CLASSIC. Children's TV with an edge. Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons was Gerry Anderson's best work. Century 21 at the top of it's game
I loved Captain Scarlet as a kid, I have a boxed set of Captain Scarlet DVDs. The Mysterons, Captain Black, awesome adventure. Dark and silly. Puppets. Crude yet sophisticated. More nuanced than Thunderbirds which I also loved. Supermarionation. Team America. Lol.
It was Captain Black. And defending themselves from what? A wholly ineffectual attack from a single Earth vehicle that did no permanent damage? And for a supposedly peaceful race, they certainly dialed it up to 11 awfully quick.
My late comment is this: from Four Feather Falls up to UFO those series evolved, in detail, in sophistication and in plotlines. Cptn.Scarlet was a big step up.And we happy kids BOUGHT INTO it, we grew up with those series. UFO was the final step towards adulthood, with real men and women, mixed races and young and old. In respect, Anderson was an Education, now we are his School!
Great to see this. I think Captain Scarlet was one of my imaginary friends back in the 60's. The artwork at the end its fantastic still, glad to see that I could google him. Ron Embleton
This would be the only time that we would see Captain Black in his full Spectrum uniform as for the rest of the series, he would completely ditch it in favour of wearing black leather jackets, trenchcoats with dark grey sweaters and pants with long boots while fully embracing the entire persona of a Mysteron agent. I also loved that he never ever talked much and was mostly silent which made him more like a zombie but would only say a few words in that deep robotic voice. The glazed eyes, the pale skin and unshaved apperance complimented his new look perfectly. My all time favourite villain out of the entire Gerry Anderson shows.

Another one of my favorite childhood memories , especially the theme song , I love this stuff !
Shout out to Tom Scott for bringing me here.
I Loved This Show...It Was So Refreshingly DARK For A Kids Series!
This has brought back so many memories, thank you.
The acting in this show is superb, better than anything Hollywood can come up with these days!!!
Seemed wooden to me.
Honestly, the lack of subtlety in the intro scene kinda put me off. But I'm intrigued by this show.
The MC can be pretty awkward at times
@S.V.SaulVazquezJr. You missed the joke.
LOVE you for posting this. Brilliant !
I watched them in the 60s and 70s. Check out Supercar, Fireball XL5 , Space Patrol, Stingray all great Anderson creations.
@@RobertGraziose Stingray i have watched before and really enjoyed it
Still to this day, a television CLASSIC. Children's TV with an edge.
Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons was Gerry Anderson's best work. Century 21 at the top of it's game
We were spoilt rotten when you think about all the wonderful tv shows ❤
It’s all crap now
These Puppets Are Better Actors Than Most Of The People Working In Hollywood Today.
Its a shame they cannot get nominated for Oscars! Captain Scarlet and Captain Black would win every time!

After all these years I never knew that Capt Scarlet was Cary Grant, it certainly sounds like him.
It was based on Roger Moore
The voice actor was Francis Mathews
Spent hours watching this on black & white tv 📺.. blast 💥 from the past 😎
I loved Captain Scarlet as a kid, I have a boxed set of Captain Scarlet DVDs. The Mysterons, Captain Black, awesome adventure. Dark and silly. Puppets. Crude yet sophisticated. More nuanced than Thunderbirds which I also loved. Supermarionation. Team America. Lol.
I did buy the DVDs also. I'll be 57 in a few days !
3:02 The moment when we find out why the Mysterians hate the humans guts.
"sir, should the mars expedition be crewed by paranoids, and heavily armed? "sure, what could happen?"
They just sent the Americans. It's in their nature.
Last time they went there, they ended up getting shot at by rock snakes.
Ed Bishop voice is just perfect
Captain scarlet started the war with the mysterons... they were only defending themselves
It was Captain Black. And defending themselves from what? A wholly ineffectual attack from a single Earth vehicle that did no permanent damage?
And for a supposedly peaceful race, they certainly dialed it up to 11 awfully quick.

#satire lol
Captain Black did it. Scarlet was killed by them on Earth and given indestructability
Commander striker from UFO in the jet pack
My late comment is this: from Four Feather Falls up to UFO those series evolved, in detail, in sophistication and in plotlines. Cptn.Scarlet was a big step up.And we happy kids BOUGHT INTO it, we grew up with those series. UFO was the final step towards adulthood, with real men and women, mixed races and young and old. In respect,
Anderson was an Education, now we are his School!

Captain Black is such a tragic villain, and now we know why Captain Scarlet became "indestructible."
Though it was never fully explained properly
i was such a big fan.. a lot darker than the thunderbirds. a lot more fun
Here from Tom Scott.
Almost reminds me of secret invasion, cool dope storyline with puppets
This is the voice of the mysterons, we know that you can hear us, earthman… We all tried to imitate that voice as kids in the early 70s.
Fun fact for you, the voice actor for the Mysterons was the same person who voiced Colonel White.
ジェリーアンダーソンのSF作品は非常に凄い!サンダーバートとキャプテンスカーレット ジョー90 スペース1999 UFOは特に好きだった!ウォルトディズニーとは対立する程でした!!
Always loved the opening credits
Captain Black was brilliant - but I hope he wasn't paid by results ! 🤣
just arrive here after looking for 4 Feathers falls ....but i am very happy to discover these collection of series..that never had seen before....A PUPPETS THAT SMOKE...THAT IS AWESOME-...!!!!! IT IS CLEARLY TO ME ...NOWADAY SOCIETY HAS INVOLUTIONED..!!!!
One of the best marionette series ever made ... Captain Scarlet is the greatest ...
Stingray
Absolutely Amazing ! Gerry was before his time.
Supermarionation must have came out between Supermarioland and Supermarioworld.
Much better than I thought it was and I loved the show back in the day. Wonderful stuff.
Nice to see captain black reinvent himself as manager of arsenal
I'd love to see that go viral! :D
I haven't watched since this I was ten years old. i'm amazed at how well it holds up. But damn, this is way darker than I remember
