      You would think that her sons would be able to support themselves and their children, as they would be young and presumably fit and able. Or their wives - don't they work? They're young and don't have the stigma of being widows so it should bw far easier for them to find some kind of work. It's just not sustainable for Datri's adult children to be reliant upon financial help from their mother. She's in her 60s and has worked in dangerous conditions for many years, so her physical condition is probably a lot worse than other 60ish women. That's not true, there is no wide superstition in Indonesia about widows being bad luck, the reasons why widows in Indonesia find it difficult to find jobs especially those coming from low income families are the lack of skills. It's common for lower income families to ignore education especially those of the older generation. It's common for women to have a mindset that they don't need higher education because they can rely on their husbands, but this is slowly changing. Jakarta itself has massive problems in every aspect. The government should provide training, make business loans on a small scale easier and accessible and regulate immigration in Jakarta.
    Edit: about the widows being bad luck in Indonesia, there are stigmas about widows and divorcees that are ridiculous. But widows not being accepted in terms of productivity is not one of them, I've been living in many areas in major islands and some smaller islands in Indonesia, really truly living not just visiting and never once have I seen one. In many places widows are being prioritized and empowered. To have that in Jakarta is difficult due to extreme competitions, uncontrolled suburb or rural development, unmanaged migration, like I said Jakarta has massive problems in every aspect, this is just one of them, the superstition that widows are bad luck might exist, but that is not the problem, especially in Jakarta.

Sure we are working office jobs from 9-5 but somebody is making the same amount as we are off of our labour! You feed a selfish boss, greedy owners, and a never ending money pit of a country's public sector. And for most states it will only get worse... Though I do think capitalism brought us most of our wealth/better working conditions, I do think it needs heavy regulation in order for it to work. And lets be honest, public sector employees should loose their right to vote if we want to prosper again (either work for the state and loose the right to vote of work in the private sector and keep your voting right - so nothing is forced here and you can always get your voting licence back).

    I've been there. That feeling that you want to do other things to change your life for the BETTER but you cant because you are too powerless to do it and dont know where to start NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. HARD WORK and all that you will still be nothing at the END OF THE DAY.
    I can just say. I'm just WAY TOO LUCKY that time gave me an OPPORTUNITY and that bridge so that I can do something to change my life. That now, I can provide myself basic needs in life and some scratch in my pocket. 200 kilograms per day? That will make us rich in India.
    A kg of scrap iron fetch us 20 rupees.
    So 200 kilograms will fetch us 4000 rupees (around 500 US dollars) in a day. That's more than an officer's salary in a month for a scrap metal collector 😢

    • @censormedaddy
      @censormedaddy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your math is off. There is no way they are paying that much for scrap iron in India or anywhere else. In the US, if you take clean scrap iron to the scrap yard you get somewhere around $0.10 per pound. So for 200 kg you would get $44. Nowhere close to $500.
      I went ahead and checked your math. According to google, 4000 rupees is $48.00. So you are paid slightly more per kg than I would at my local scrap yard. But still nowhere close to $500 for 200 kg.

Iron toxicity can occur from consuming excessive amounts of iron, but I doubt she is eating said rust. Trace amounts on hands wouldn’t cause problems.
