Proper t'ing. Wild, how much it's changed, and yet when you know exactly where some of these pics were taken it's crazy how little it's changed. And I'm some sure some of these buildings are still standing today b'y. ❤

We lived on the base from December 1960 to June 1963. We three kids attended St. Stephen's Catholic School in town for the three school years that we lived there. Our home was on Georgia Drive and our dad worked at the port where he would go out and catch huge cod fish in the surf. I love the snow and thought we were living in a wonderland

Thank you! I lived off base until housing was available and attended St Stephens school! Always wanted to find my best friend Mary Fleming, 1st & 2nd grade. Mary! If your out there leave a remark! I loved that life , about 1955 - 1959.

Sonny I was visiting my cousin Wayne Russell last time I was back visiting the Rock. I didn't know it but it was his birthday and so we sat and had a drink and chatted about the old days. Your name came up as Wayne shared a few stories, so when I saw this video I was interested to see what you had posted. Great old photos! Some bring back memories, others are before my time but give a sense of what life was like for older siblings and parents of that time.
By the photos, The base was really big when in full operation. I'm ex military, and it really puts it into perspective the amount of money that must have been invested to operate such a facility ( not to mention the other facilities like Gander, Goose Bay, Argentina...)
    Thanks for the post!

Wow, what a blast from the past. Thank you so much for sharing. We were stationed at Harmon AFB for over three years, moved there from Barksdale AFB in Bossier City LA, when I was around eight years old, so maybe 1959 or 1960. My stepfather was a navigator on a KC-135, and my mother worked for a time at the VOQ (Visiting Officers Quarters). I remember how excited she was when Bob Hope came through on one of his tours, and she was working and met him. He gave her a bracelet that had a profile of his head on it - wish I had THAT lol!!! We lived off base in a very small four room house that had an oil burning stove in the kitchen. It was on the edge of a forest, and my older sister and I played there with neighbor children often. We were there during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and I recall going on base to stay during the threat. These photos bring back a lot of memories.

I lived on Ernest Harmon AFB, Stephenville, from 1948 to 1952 while my father was Fire Chief of the AFB. Would love to learn of what happened to old playmate there named Bish Keogh/Keough. Also remember radio announcer named Pierre O'Brien at radio station in the Hotel DeQuink (not sure of correct spelling). I started grade school at the school on that AFB! I have fond memories of my time there!
