In the ministry I have been told that I was not as good as so and so. It hurts. But it also makes me work harder to be better. It also makes me rely on God who knows my heart. I remember one lady who kept telling me how great Dr. D. James Kennedy was as a preacher. She thought I preached too loud. My temptation was to tell her, "So, when you go into the hospital do you think Dr. Kennedy will come and see you and pray with you? He won't but I will. What I did do was to turn the mic volume down a bit so I could preach the same volume but it didn't come through as loud.
