We did most of our travelling while my husband and I were still working. We had ten years of travelling to many place in North America and Europe. Now that we are retired and there are health issues we look back over all the places we have visited and how lucky we were to visit them. We don't miss travel, we live through all of our friends that continue to travel. Don't leave travelling until retirement because you never know about health issues and economic issues.
I agree. We travelled to a lot of our bucket list places while we were still working. Drove to all the Canadian provinces and territories except Nunavet, did African safari, Europe, a number of cruises. Unfortunately my husband is in a nursing home now at 61, I still work but plan to retire in the next 2 to 3 years. I am glad we travelled while we had our health otherwise my husband would have missed out had we waited for retirement
My wife had a heart attack which required two stents a year ago. She is taking daily medicine and her recovery has been fine. We are going to take our grandson to Disneyland, as a person with a pre existing condition do you recommend increased travel insurance. My credit card will cover my wife if she has had no ongoing or recurring conditions within 90 days of travel. We will also ask for our Dr. to document that her health status is ok for travel. Thanks for all the info your channel provides.
Hi Norm and Tina, love the idea of travel! Can’t wait to get started. Love that you enjoy Puerto Rico, my home land. Can’t wait to see videos of Portugal this winter! Stay well and Happy Holidays 😊
Hey 👋 Norm & Tina! You’re looking good in navy & yellow, and the lighting below is akin to having a fireside chat- very nice! I found something in retirement I thought I had put in my bucket for good- plein air, alla prima painting! I’m doing 2 per week. I have 11 now. I seem to have a special talent and ability. So after about 3 years in retirement, I’m an artist!! A real life go-outside-experiencing-the-fresh-air-and-colors-in-oil paint-on-canvas artist. After 45 years as a commercial artist, I was done. Now, I can’t believe my new life. I can paint like it’s 1977. All it took was my wife dragging me, kicking and screaming, to a group painting session at our local Senior Center, and getting my feet wet again. Then folks told me I should teach the class! Crazy. I look back on my paintings and I’m amazed. “Look”, I say to my wife, “I did that.” And beyond this, we paid for a cruise today to Nova Scotia, Canada- for Sept on Norwegian. Life is great!, and getting better.
Ah, Europe! We're heading there tomorrow for almost 6 months. We'll be visiting England, Wales, Scotland, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Sweden, and Italy. Our retirement goal is to hike long-distance trails all over the world, interact with the locals, eat their food, and see the sights. Your recent train trip was partly what inspired me to book the Arctic Circle sleeper train to travel from Stockholm to Abisko, rather than fly.
@@HonorNRespectYrWifeIjitEish In 2014 we did a 3-week bicycle tour in counties Kerry and Mayo. That was a bit sketchy at times so I don't think we'd try that again. I was fortunate to spot piano wire stretched across a country lane before we ran into it. That was evil. Then there's the rain, tour buses and twisty windy lanes with high hedgerows to contend with. I became an Irish citizen during the pandemic but our upcoming 5 1/2 month trip is already fully accounted for.
@South Efrikan The time we spent in County Mayo and the Aran Islands was the best, but we also enjoyed good weather in those places. I wouldn't ever try cycling in Kerry again.
Have you thought about hiking the Route de St Jacques de Compostelle starting from Le Puy? Incredible scenery with guaranteed accomodation and meeting different people every night.
@@glennet9613 In 2017 we hiked the length of the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean by the Haute Route Pyrenees, crossing the path of the French Camino de Santiago. I believe this route is incomparably more spectacular, and more diverse, than the Camino. This summer we plan to hike the Cammino di San Francesco from Florence to Vatican City. In 2019 we did the northern half, from Florence to Assisi but we ran out of time and we were already going 50% faster than recommended. We need to take more time to smell the roses.
I am disheartened to learn the passing of a Canadian treasure, Gordon Lightfoot, on May 1, 2023 in Toronto. Our shared American and Canadian treasure will be gravely missed, and will never be forgotten in our hearts. I am glad he blessed our countries and added to our cultures. Every time I hear a song of his, it's like I wish it would last forever. Now for a spin of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I am in tears. 😥😥 Our common histories and love of freedom and liberty will always be held dearly in my heart. May we both know and treasure our eternal friendship, ensemble toujours!
What a lovely comment Kevin he was one of our favourites too Canada is lucky that we have had both Gordon Lightfoot and Leonard Cohen as such poets and song writers 🌺
A friend and I were just talking about next homes for retirement. She said she couldn’t get excited about anything. I said I may not be overly excited about the house or condo, but I am excited about what I want to do when I downsize so I’m not sitting at home or cutting the lawn. Twenty minutes later, I get home and watch your bucket list ideas. Great! Thank you. I’m taking this as a sign to make that list from learning pickle ball to swimming in the Arctic Ocean.
We are travelling a good 5 weeks a year right now prior to retirement while we have a healthy budget to work with and great health. This summer a british isles cruise. We aren’t waiting for retirement for travel. Enjoy crossing off your bucket list 😊
Wow, different lighting, different sound, looking good both of you! What fun even experimenting with the chat, and those are good ideas too! For people who don't have much money, I have found so many things close to my home that aren't very expensive, beaches, waterfalls, festivals, different foods, music is often free in a lot of cities in the summer, and sometimes just driving the backroads to see where they go is so relaxing and fun. Love to you both!
Travel was the main reason my wife and I retired. We had 6 weeks vacation annually but it never seemed enough. So some of our out of country trips include Scotland, Norway (Lofoten Islands), Iceland, Georgia and Azerbaijan, Montenegro and many others. Our list includes 29 countries and 20 major cities. Within Canada, we just bought a new travel trailer replacing one we used for 18 years. Trips will be the local parks, but next year off to Grasslands NP and Riding Mountain. Other locations include Newfoundland (have been there for our honeymoon in 1991 and 2 visits since, Vancouver Island (Pac Rim NP) Whitehorse and Dawson in the Yukon. A final plan is to take tge trailer all tge way to the Baja and Mexico. So we figure our current list keeps us busy till we are 70 then we can do up another one!!! We both love your channel and appreciate the great advice for newbie retirees 😂.
I went to South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe in 2022 for safaris. Stopped at Vic Falls as well. It was an amazing bucket list vacation. I highly recommend it. Tina, You look great in yellow.
Thank you! My dream trip was to visit Egypt and I actually got to live there for a few years on and off. I visited the UK London, a few countries in Europe the Caribbean, and Mexico as well. I have relatives in Canada and have been there a few times to various provinces. I feel very fortunate to have been able to see these places, more to come in the future I hope. Thank you so much! Great Ideas!
Have already done lots that are on your list, so fun! Pushkar camel fair in India, a culinary tour of south India with cooking classes, Victoria falls and Zimbabwe Safari, Amsterdam, Vietnam with a food tour, Nepal with a short trek, cross Canada on train, toured the maritimes, Taj Mahal, many trips to Mexico, and now booked for Egypt and Jordan. A surprise cancer diagnosis has put us into overdrive! Never wait….
I used to travel to Puerto Rico for business regularly and for me, when in San Juan, it is mandatory to go to Old San Juan and eat at the restaurant Marmalade. The White Bean soup there is fabulous. I took my wife to San Juan for a holiday and insisted she have the White Bean soup, she didn't really want soup that night but I insisted. After her first spoonful she looked up and said: "This is the best thing I've ever tasted". It's not cheap to eat at Marmalade but well worth it.
The food in Thailand was the best we have ever had. Both in Yelp suggested small restaurants and on a cooking tour. Surprised that Yelp was even on a small island we visited!
You came close to this, but my trips are often inspired by reading about Unesco World Heritage Sites - tho there has to be other things that appeal, or that I tack on to a trip. I've seen about 30 now.
Would love a video on what you eat/cook in a day. What your fitness/walking/workouts look like. A wander around your city, into some old churches or museums.
Hi Tina & Norm! Enjoyed listening to your ideas. The main takeaway seems to be always have something to look forward to - it can be large or small. It doesn't even have to be a trip! Looking forward to retirement here...
Do resistance training to stay fit. We just got back from London and it required real stamina. Awesome trip and we realized how grateful we are for our health and strength.
We have a Panama Canal cruise booked. We also are planning on going on a east coast fall cruise through the Maritimes. Seeing beautiful fall leaves! Haven’t booked it but we are looking at our options.
Another great video Tina & Norm. I have been blessed with travel through out my life, including a Safari in South Africa, a trip of a lifetime. Still enjoying travel, going on a cruise in a couple of weeks. Europe is still on my bucket list. Thanks for what you do.
We also enjoy longer cruises. We just completed an Atlantic crossing from Europe to the United States for 19 days with a number of stops. Excellent. We have also just booked Cape Town, South Africa to Barcelona 21 days, early next year. This is not a dress rehearsal, it is our main event!
Several years ago, some friends took the family to many of the water-falls in Michigan. In 2 weeks, they couldn't get to them all. I'm sure Ontario also has plenty !
We recently each took part time jobs. He does around 20 hrs per week and I do marketing around 24 hours per month. This is strictly for extra travel money and it also gives us a reason to get up and get dressed, which has been a little problematic for me. Flying out to Arizona in May for a Globus Grand Canyon tour. We will end up in Las Vegas for a show and then home.
I would love to go to Newfoundland. I am told by former residents that it is best to fly to St.John's and then rent a car but that rentals can be hard to get unless you plan far in advance.
Hey Susan, come to Newfoundland, no need to rent a car. I have two cars, pick one and travel around Newfoundland no charge. I also have another house which is vacant, you can stay there for free. Welcome to Newfoundland and Labrador.
May I suggest checking out Lakeside Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie? In the summer, it's like being on a cruise ship that doesn't move! Lots of activities for all ages.
Hi Tina and Norm. I’ve been following you for a long time. I’m retiring later this year and planning long trips in the US and Canada. Can you do a video on how/where to search and get the best deals on places to stay. I’ve got plans already for the Rio Grande next February. I remember how much you 2 loved the gulf in Alabama and I’m hoping to go there too. Any tips for those of us who are not used to searching for the best deals. Thanks so much. Enjoy you so much.
Like you we are retired and like travel .Last January we took cruise from Chile to Buenos Aires ,cruising around Cape Horn wonderful experience. August we are going for cruise from Southampton to Island and Norway .After Christmas we are going to Albufeira Portugal for 3 month, are you going to Portugal for next winter ?
I'm on a cruise now. I'm the "expert" lecturing on the history of the places we're visiting. Meeting a lot of interesting people, many of whom seem to be retired.
It’s funny how you guys say about 6 hours of driving per day on a road trip is enough. We are the same! We’re headed to Grand Teton National Park in Sept. One of the most beautiful places in the US in our opinion. Having seen much of the US, Canada and Mexico in my lifetime, I would like to do a river cruise in Europe. Also have never been to Hawaii. Those are bucket list places for me. We also enjoy shorter trips around our state as we have a lot of mountains. Have a great weekend!😊
Another interesting vacation.. sort of is a mission trip. a trip with a purpose. I was blessed years ago to do a mission trip to Zambia. helped build a resedence for nurses at a hospital and a house for a local pastor. we brought medical supplies for the hospital and jars of peanut butter for helping us feed children in the local schools. It was an amazing time. then for the final 3 days we stayed near Victoria falls in an amazing resort with roll up tarps for the west facing wall which overlooked a nature reserve in the valley below. it was absolutely amazing. God bless you both and thank you for doing your channel.
You would love a safari!! I’m your age and have travelled a lot and it is at the top of the list of the best trips I’ve ever done. Kenya - three reserves.
There is also another way to travel. I bought a camping car 4 years ago. It's fantastic for my way of life. I am solo and was tired of waiting for somebody to travel with. I have food restrictions and sleep issues. The camping car solves that because I'm self-sufficient in those areas. I don't travel far from my home but it's enough for a change of scenery. I finally found my way of travelling.
If you like beaches, Wasaga Beach is the longest freshwater beach in the world. On the way there, Creemore has a couple of nice spots for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. In Tobermory you can find some very fresh pickerel and chip lunches. For more rustic trips the Stewart-Cassier highway, and Dempster highways are great drives, but you have to carry your own gas. Tina can get some action packed videos of Norm wrestling grizzly bears. You'll want to have a back-up driver. Fishing is great and Arctic Grayling can be caught with almost every cast. On the Queen Charlotte Islands you can buy T-shirts that read "Queen Charlotte residents don't tan, they rust"
Travel is an educational experience. Filled with sites, sounds, tastes and history. Save the books and memorees for the old folks. Get off the couch ,get out of your comfort zone and do something...maybe a little wild. My bucket is filled with adventures. Scuba the blue hole, ice wine in the ice hotel, climbing to macho picho, zip line in Costa Rica. Rock out at glastonbury . October fest in Germany. Stomping grapes in ...thanks Tina you look marvelous. Norm I missed your classic rock tee-shirt. Bill
My brother in law is African American. He's not black, hes white but was born in Africa. We are doing a Safari later this year with him and his wife. A related tour guide who speaks Swahili. We fish a lot and travel the US to enjoy the different types of sport fishing available. We go to Montana every year and visit the national parks. An Alaskan cruise is on slate for next year. Travel is the best resson to be retired. 😊
Tina and Norm, have you travelled to Madeira or the Azores as yet? I've seen impressive videos on TH-cam and will be planning future trips to these enchanting islands. I would suggest you also explore these options for your travels.
Actually Mike we have visited both of them really nice places hope to return one day , had a great week in Terceira in December we have videos up of there you might enjoy Cheers 🍷🇵🇹🍺🙂
I was lucky enough to have been traveling since a young age. Rome, Paris, England, Scotland, Wales. Then as a Flight Attendant, I saw Greece, Brussels, Egypt & Pyramids (which was awesome), Sorrento, Italy, Rome (Vatican) & Saudi Arabia. Beach vacations to Florida, and Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum & the Dominican Republic! My niece & nephew have been far more places than I, including Thailand, Vietnam, Peru, Iceland, but I’m happy that I’ve experienced many places in the World. Still great living in Canada, travelled to St. John’s, Halifax, Vancouver, Victoria. Maybe one day I’ll make it to Banff? You guys are great to watch! Have an awesome day!
Hi Tina and Norm, thank you so much for all of your videos! I don't believe I've missed one. Love your style. 😊 I've been thinking of advice you gave a while back regarding getting annual travel insurance before 60. Are you able to give the name of the company you deal with? I've never heard of this option before and I'm not quite sure how to start. X A
We try to do one Europe trip and one domestic trip in the US (well we did a Mexico cruise) and will try to do longer ones once we retire! Also my better half loves Trains and we try to go on different ones every trip.
We have a bucket list too, fortunately or unfortunately there are over 40 countries on the list😀 If we are not careful, AI could replace a lot of jobs in the future. Hope we use technology to our advantage not the other way around. Rainy weekend, yikes😢
What a great list of options. Indeed 'waiting' for later one might miss out of realizing many a dream. If possible, start early, small steps is better than no steps at all later. ~While working we were restricted in when our holidays took place. Now we love mid week excluding general holiday time get aways in our own country. Exploring all the provinces and small towns. Prior to major summer holidays we have a 4-5 week holiday plan and one after the major holidays. Not only are the hot spots less busy but the prices lower. I don't have a bucket list - we just do what pops up in our minds regarding places of interest at the time of planning. Great ideas like I said. You've listed lots of options. Have a great week and I'm sure you are looking forward to the trailer trips. Have a great Sunday. 🌷🇳🇱 🙋♀ 🇳🇿 🌺
We just got back from Japan and will be visiting Holland, Amsterdam, Belgium, France and finally to London in September! We just got approved for “Global Entry” with the US Department of Homeland Security (US Customs and Border Protection).
A lot of my ancestors came over to Canada and then to the United States. Some still live there. Living near the U.S. Canadian border we learned a lot about Canada.
Love your background setting. I have so many favorite spots in Canada but I especially loved the Yukon. I think if I could talk myself into flying to Europe again, I would enjoy a river cruise. I am not a cruiser, but somehow these boats seem smaller and more appealing. I've been to a number of places in Europe France, England, Wales, Ireland, and Rome in Italy, but cruising down the river and stopping daily just seems appealing. PS downloading songs to a flashdrive for my car and the last CD I was just downloading was by Canadian Gordon Lightfoot, love his music.
HI, I missed which site you said you used to book your small tour. Also, which cruise did you have the great trip of Rome? We've been to Rome but not a cruise. We just came back from a off the beaten path stay in San Pancho, Mexico, we booked a little AirBnB out of the town. Excellent choice to stay away from the heavy tourist areas. Our next trip is Portugal for the second time. After that, I think a cruise for our first time. We are definitely foodies and have a food tour booked for Lisbon. Had an amazing cooking class in Greece and sampled a lot of street food on our trip around Thailand. Yummm food, we love our food experiences
My teacher friend wanted a full pension and just passed away at 63. She didn't get to retire and travel. She always wanted to visit Egypt 🇪🇬. I have. 😮😮😮😮😮 You 2 look great. 😊
Great suggestions - thank you! We definitely want to visit all 50 states. We did a Carribean cruise in March. We had a good time (not great). It was definitely geared toward families with young kids. Not that many activities for retirees. Do you have a cruise line preference?
We've done about a dozen cruises, Alaska and Panama Canal being the favourites. I would recommend Princess or Celebrity for retirees. I particularly enjoyed their educational lectures and small musical groups. NCL was okay but RC felt like we were living in an amusement park.
@@NorthernLibrarian - thank you so much! Our Caribbean cruise was on RC. It did feel like an amusement park. We did enjoy Princess when we went to Alaska. We have not tried Celebrity - thanks!
Looking to travel, but not wanting to fly (makes traveling stressful -feeling like being in a pressure cooker rather than a journey for me). Have you ever traveled by only ship and train? If so how did you book? How did it go? Living vicariously through you both till October!!
If you are thinking trains in Europe - they are wonderful. You can take a Cunard cruise from (I think) New York to Southampton, Great Britain and take trains all over Europe. There is a couple who does TH-cam videos (Grounded Life Travels) about US train travel, which could give you lots of information.
We are wondering about an Alaskan cruise. Can you recommend a cruise line? Is there a best time of year to go? Is it worth the extra cost of an exterior room with a balcony?
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Could you do a program on cruising? How does one wade through the choices? There is one price for the room but so many additional costs. There is premium service, excursions, tipping, etc. It would be helpful to know how to plan a budget for a cruise.
Just asking, if single would each of you still be doing the same items on Your Bucket list ? Or would you each be curtailing them? Being single, just curious. 🤔
Great video. Would love to see one sometime where you tell your favourite travel websites. There are so many that pop up and it’s hard to decide which are the most reliable.

Thank you for everything you do. Timely information. We all have our own bucket list
Did you film this at night? Your lighting has an up-light spookiness. lol (Congrats on reaching 60,000 subscribers!)
May I suggest checking out Lakeside Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie? In the summer, it's like being on a cruise ship that doesn't move! Lots of activities for all ages.
Some great ideas here, thanks.
Tina, that colour is stunning on you.
Spring 2023 | Escarpment Magazine here is a travel option
another great topic! will go to Kenya safari this summer, cannot wait 🙂
I retired about a year and a half ago. I moved from BC to Newfoundland. Let the adventure begin. I saw my first iceberg last month.
Oh wow, great minds think alike. Next year my wife and I are planning road trips from Houston to La, then later New Orleans to Miami (via Key West).
@@HonorNRespectYrWifeIjitEish Excellent, thank you.
Several of those places are on our bucket list. We always enjoy your talks! Have a great weekend guys! 🤗
One event on my bucket list is to take a tour of an abandoned town or a ghost town.
China or Japan for that.
You guys should take a trip to the Azores, Tour of the nine islands I think you would love.
I've been thinking of advice you gave a while back regarding getting annual travel insurance before 60. Are you able to give the name of the company you deal with? I've never heard of this option before and I'm not quite sure how to start. X A
Love how you play with light. Something you both picked up in photography. Some of us notice these things.
Love the warm lighting guys. Looks great. Also, the sound is amazing too. Great quality.
We try to do one Europe trip and one domestic trip in the US (well we did a Mexico cruise) and will try to do longer ones once we retire! Also my better half loves Trains and we try to go on different ones every trip.
We'd love to visit the awesome Iguazu Falls in Brazil.
Great video! I have learned few things...
We have a bucket list too, fortunately or unfortunately there are over 40 countries on the list😀
If we are not careful, AI could replace a lot of jobs in the future.
We rented a sailboat for the BVI in December. You should really look into it. One of the most beautiful places on earth.
What? You found a lot of tours on trip something. I played it over and over and I could not discern what you said Norm. Thanks.
We just got back from Japan and will be visiting Holland, Amsterdam, Belgium, France and finally to London in September! We just got approved for “Global Entry” with the US Department of Homeland Security (US Customs and Border Protection).
Wonderful video!
There’s 50 States. Just the same you guys are great.
😂 I wondered how long it would take for someone to point that out. In Norm’s defense, I doubt many Americans know how many provinces there are.
Yes, but throw in Puerto Rico and DC. There's 52 for you. BTW: Puerto Rico was lovely when I was there several years ago. I recommend it.
@@toddmccaw There are 10 Provinces, The Yukon, Northwest Territory and Nuvallit.
That's Nunavut the newest territory carved our of the Northwest Territory.
Don't feel bad, Normie. Many Americans believe that Canada and England are our 51st and 52nd states.😅
well done and thumbs up 👍🔥💯
The was a 'ROAD FILM" that featured the largest ball of twine in the US. Rather static quest!
Where’s the mic? The audio sounds great.
I like this vid.Good insight.
52 states? I can see that by including D.C. and Puerto Rico. Very cool way of thinking about the U.S. in practicality.
Great job. We missed the place you said where you found the culinary tour in Puerto Rico. Would you help us out?
Enjoyed this video!
Great suggestions...budget ideas . Work away..volunteer trips......study another language. .😊
.. and new lighting ..
Nice lighting
Hi Tina and Norm...hope you have a great wknd.❤
Those are all great ideas for trips! ❤
Are we including the States of Confusion and Forgetfulness, Norm, or are you just being a bit naughty?
My teacher friend wanted a full pension and just passed away at 63. She didn't get to retire and travel. She always wanted to visit Egypt 🇪🇬. I have. 😮😮😮😮😮 You 2 look great. 😊
Sorry about your friend's passing. None of us know what the future will bring for us. We all should make the most of everyday.
😢🌺
@@caroleanne8529 Thank you for the tip! I will definitely check it out!
We are wondering about an Alaskan cruise. Can you recommend a cruise line? Is there a best time of year to go? Is it worth the extra cost of an exterior room with a balcony?
Holland America Line and Princess, shoulder seasons May and September.
Interesting question.
Thanks for the input!☺
I'm curious to know too, about a 'bucket list' if single. Hope Norm&Tina answer
I guess us single people will have to figure out our own list! 🙁
Last I checked the US has 50 states not 52!
Norm & Tina **** ROCK ***** !!
Are you both traveling back to London, England to see the Coronation of King Charles lll?
New lighting?
It was hard to hear what site you used to book your culinary excursion and it is not in the transcript. Can you let us know please.

What do you think of a cross country train trip across Canada? Have you done this?
They did VIA from Toronto to Vancouver a couple of months ago.
It is impossible to do a cross country train trip across Canada as Newfoundland doesn't have trains.
Then you get a Karen on the plane. Watching now
Off topic, but do you guys know a better data roaming plan for USA than Telus Easyroam? They charge $14/day for both my wife and I.
There are only 50 states in the US. (51 with the District of Columbia, but not 52 that I'm aware of.) How many provinces are in Canada?
There are 10 provinces and 3 territories. I caught the "52" states mistake, too. So many people think America has 52 states.
Add that the DC isn't actually a state, and no wonder there is confusion! 😄
People these days include Washington and Porto Rico even though the rest of you don’t want to recognize them
Thank you Julie, I was starting to question myself on that. Lol
Great video. Would love to see one sometime where you tell your favourite travel websites. There are so many that pop up and it’s hard to decide which are the most reliable.
Did you say you used Trip Advisor?
You should ask ChatGPT: how many US States are there? 😂. Just kidding!! No offense... Nice video
What was the name of the travel company you used? TripIt, TripUp?
Trip advisor
What was the website name you mention for tours.
