The one thing the US Army taught me in my 34 years of service was to be situationally aware at all times and be prepared to take necessary measures to defend myself and my wife in the event crazies approach us.
Just discovered your channel recently. First off, you two are just the bees knees and cute as a button ! We are fellow Ontarians. My husband will retire in 2024 and I have been off work for a few years now due to chronic pain. We are now in the throws of starting to look at what life will look like once he is no longer working. Appreciate all the topics you cover. As content suggestions, what are your thoughts about moving to be closer to grown children? Maybe a video tackling how you find the best flight and accommodation deals. Forgive me if you’ve covered these topics in previous vids and I’ve missed them.
Welcome to our channel when we retired early 7 years ago we did move 6 hours to be with one of our adult children and grandchildren, we had been living near our other adult child for a long time , it was also a cheaper area so our money went further in renting the apartment we live in . We wish you well with your retirement we have many videos that cover lots of topics of coming up to retirement and once retired. Have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺🍺
Hello Tina and Norm. When the screen requests the ATM/Credit number, you can often bypass the request by pressing the enter/green key cap a few times. It is when you request cash back that you need to input the number. And as Tina suggested it is a good idea to cover the screen when inputting the number. I enjoyed the topic of discussion and thank you so much for sharing. 👍👍
Hey Tina & Norm! ✌️😊 Thank you for all your insights that you have shared on a variety of topics! Wishing you the best of life in 2023! May your lives be filled both with serenity and new exciting adventures!
Happy New Year! Really enjoy your videos and your sweet personalities. Introduced my sister and her husband to your channel and they often refer to "Norm and Tina" You are making a difference , keep it up!
Hi Tina and Norm! I am currently in São Sebastião, São Paulo visiting family. Their house is about 1/4 mile from the beach. The food here, in my opinion, is better than Portugal. The prices for us is very good but not to the locals. I bought about 12 lbs of the best meat and sausage for about 34 dols. We are going to cook them on the grill tonight. Great information... I have learned few things today. Have a great New Year. All the best in 2023. God Bless you.🎉🥳🎈🥳
Happy new year Norm and Tina! A very happy healthy 2023! Your scarf is beautiful Tina. Another great video with lots of wise travelling advice. VPN(virtual private network) are not recommended by many tech experts or myself. You can be blocked by service providers because they know that you are using a VPN in a foreign location. It may sometimes violate the sites terms of service even if not illegal. VPN’s can cause your computer to crash which happened to us. They can conflict with the security of a computers operating system or anti virus software. We uninstalled are VPN and if we wish to use it we simply reinstall the program. I don’t think VPN’s provide any additional security if other protocols are in place. They may work best for mobile applications. We also photo-copy our essential travel documents. Another tip is to take photos of all documents. We also e-mail copies/photos of all relevant documents(insurance, travel documents, passports) Multiple copies in several places for easy access if something goes wrong and you forget, lose or have something stolen. Enjoy your New Years Eve! Cheers. Paul and Helen
All the best to you for the coming year! CHEERS from HERE! P.S. I was in Northern France last week thanks to a Y.T. video by Old Classic Car poster .He went from England to France (Normandy Beach) and took us Y.T. followers along
The Drury Inn gives you breakfast and dinner along with 3 drink coupons 7 days a week but not that many locations. The dinners used to be hotdogs and such but now are very good. You don't go away hungry. Happy New Year.
Tina and Norm, I love your videos and all the topics you shared with us. It's so refreshing to have these topics for us older folks, great job, keep up the great work.
If you're looking for an exotic travel spot, I recommend Malaysia. My favorite city is Penang (Georgetown) for food, street art, shopping, nature reserves and warm island life, but other places are hidden gems too...Langkawi, Cameron Highlands, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Terengganu. Friendly people, very affordable, safe and English-speaking!
I have usually book a hotel which includes breakfast and have done so for many yrs. I also bring a food container & put the fruit which is included at breakfast and take it for lunch as a fruit salad to eat at mid day, instead a full lunch, and just pay for dinner, that also reduces the cost, as well. This is especially helpful if you are out and about touring around and don't necessarily want to stop. I usually just find a quiet place, sit and have my fruit. Ms. B. Churchill
Hi Tina & Norm, I have to say, you always give great tips and advice! I have learned so much from all your videos and hope to learn more in 2023. Wishing you both a wonderful 2023 New Year, all the best and take care, Cheers!👍👍
There are a lot of TH-cam channels of expats living in Thailand that show you can rent 1 or 2 bedroom condos on monthly basis for around $1,500 to $1,750 US with all the fancy amenities, pool, spa, gym. Its on my list of places to explore. Have a Nice New Year.
Great useful tips as usual Tina and Norm. As an FYI, I use Norton anti-virus on my PC that includes VPN for free. Always buy when it's on sale typically around boxing day which makes it very cost effective. Just bought Norton 360 Deluxe for $24.95 which is for one year and covers 10 devices. Have a great New Year!
Happy new year to you both. I'm optimistic about 2023 as hoping to take early retirement in the summer at the grand of age of 57. Your videos are very inspirational. Thank you for sharing.
Happy New Year Tina and Norm. My brother spends a lot of time in Thailand and says it is very very safe and clean. People are super friendly and the food is great and inexpensive.
You have the most interesting and informative videos. I am in my late 50s and can see my retirement years rapidly approaching. Your videos make me excited about the future.
Excellent video. I always wondered about a VPN, but I also wonder if I can use my cell phone as a hot spot instead. Happy, happy new year. I hope it is filled with joy, good health and many travels. Thank you for all you do!
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Safety tip - Never pick the phone from a number you don’t recognize. Always let it go to voicemail. If it’s legitimate they’ll leave a message. Also Google the phone number as many folks leave reviews on the number. Most unknown callers are scammers.
Would love a follow up video to hear if you found which was more economical. Self catering or hotel with breakfast. Love your videos❤. Here’s to wonderful adventures in 2023!
Good tips as per usual. Being aware of the dangers of the modern world is as vital as being aware of life's dangers eg road safety, personal safety etc. So yes Tina quite right, cover the keypad when adding one's pin code. Securing home safety for your internet usage is also vital. Receive an email you are unsure of- DON"T open it. If it is genuine the sender will get in touch. Receive an email telling you have won something, there is a parcel on the way or you have an outstanding account, remove without opening. Turn wifi and bluetooth off while wandering around town. This limits the possibility of being 'followed. Most of all, don't become paranoid but stay alert. Act like one would when crossing the road- Look both ways. Anyway, Tina and Norm another great year ahead. Looking forward to what you have on offer in 2023. 🎉✴ 🍾 🥂 🇳🇿 🙋♀ 🇳🇱
Glad you enjoyed the video Anita , great tip turning off wifi and Bluetooth while walking around , we appreciate your support in watching our channel and wish you and your Hubby a healthy and wonderful New Year Cheers 🇳🇱🥂🎆🥳🇨🇦☕️
Hello Tina and Norm! Another video packed with great information. My husband and I mostly do road trips in the western US. We love staying at nice hotels with great breakfast buffets. Then just an early dinner later on. It sure is convenient and saves so much time spent shopping and cooking. However, sometimes it is nice to have more room and more of a homelike feel of a condo like the one you had in Alabama. Both accommodations have their advantages. Looking forward to following your travels in 2023. I loved your video of your road trip across Canada. Ever consider a road trip to some of our national parks in the western US? Take care in the new year!
Hi Cherry we loved doing the RV road trip across Canada 🇨🇦, would like to do an Amtrak train 🚂 trip or one across Eastern Canada so looking forward to travelling more Happy New Year Cheers 🥳🥂🌺
Nice to see you, Norm & Tina! Ooh, south of France! My parents & I went to Brittany & Normandy in 2019, and my favourite spot was Vannes, France. But mind you, I love old castles & it was amazing with ramparts still in tact. In the 80’s, I went to Nice, Monte Carlo, in the south of France, it was delightful! Wishing you both a Happy New Year🎉💕🇨🇦. Gilly
Appreciate the pros and cons of VPN usage in your vid and the comments below. I thought youtubers would want google to track one's favorite subjects so that the google-algorithms can provide similar links? But i am not savvy thereto.
We use a vpn when away from home using public wifi or using someone else’s internet such as hotel, Airbnb rentals. At home using our own network we don’t use the vpn.
More excellent advice. I'll seriously consider subscribing to a VPN in 2023. Trust you'll enjoy traveling to either Portugal or the south of France in the New Year! Best wishes for the New Year!
Norm and Tin, in the US, Hampton Inn, Residence Inn( it has in unit kitchenette ),Comfort Inn as well. Hampton has no in unit kitchenette you can find these hotels along the highway before getting into a bigger town.
Happy New Year Tina & Norm. Hope you had a great 2022 and looking forward to better 2023. I used windows several years ago for personal computing and had issues even with antivirus installed. I switched to Mac OS for over 8 years and have no issues since. I am not using any antivirus on my Mac as it wasn’t recommended by Apple. I am not sure if it’s just luck or apple devices are better protected. As for credit cards, yes we have had money stolen in Thailand and NYC while we are in Canada. Luckily the bank reimbursed the amount and we asked cash advance to be lowered or blocked all together since we never use cash advance due to high interest they charge. Some other tips you have shared are great, especially keeping copy of our passports. Anyhow, enjoy 2023, happy traveling and stay safe.
Thanks so much and Happy New Year, good to know your bank covered your losses. We too switched to Macs in 2013 and no antivirus software. Our MacBook is still running great, way better than the multiple windows machines we had every three or four years.
Love this video guys. Your videos are full of information and you put things across in a pleasant and easy-to-understand manner. Thank you! Happy New Year, Tina and Norm. 🎉✨🙏
Another timely video from N&T. We're leaving for New Zealand tomorrow for a 5 week tour of the south Island. I just ran out to make photocopies of our passports! and I wrote out our destination and return paperwork for the luggage, great suggestions. You two are THE BOMB!. BTW, we bought the Cosori air fryer you suggested for our Christmas gift to each other. Another "shoot's he scores"! I'm starting to realize just how much you two are internet influencers, wow. Keep up the good work, love your channel. Happy New Year.😊
That’s so wonderful Steve thanks for sharing we hope you have a wonderful trip in New Zealand 🇳🇿 sounds great , glad you enjoy our channel and videos Happy New Year Cheers 🥳🥂🌺
Great info! Thanks for all the great info you have provided us in 2022! Looking forward to what you bring to our attention in 2023! Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year, Tina and Norm!
Another idea to easily deal with a lost passport is to bring passport pictures with your photocopies. One less item to take care of during a stressful time. You previously mentioned your research for lightweight carry on luggage you purchased. I have not seen the specific brand for that luggage. Thank you for you efforts on YT.
Desejo boas viagens a correr o mundo! 😊 Acredito, profundamente que viajar é uma forma de manter saúde mental e física saudável! Para mim, vós sois embaixadores exemplares como se pode viver a poupar e a gozar a vida e ser alegre. 😊 🌟Sam
Thank you Sam for your lovely comment, yes we agree that travel can definitely ignite excitement and keep the mind healthy. We are glad you enjoy our videos and we appreciate your support in watching them , it’s a lot of fun when we know that our stories are helping others with their retirement. Wishing you both a Healthy and Happy New Year Cheers 🥂🥳🌺🤗
Hi Tina & Norm: Love your video. I actually like to go to ATMs which are inside the branch. The door is locked and you need your ATM Card to enter. We were recently talking about traveling to Thailand and included it in our Bucket list- We love Algarve and visiting it next month again.
Thanks for watching Suleman , yes Thailand is on our list but Canada and lots of other countries are now requiring a Neg Covid test if you come back via China or Honk Kong which could be a big problem for this trip at the moment . We are hoping also to get back to the Algarve soon for those lovely blue skies and gorgeous beaches Happy New Year Cheers 🥳🥂🌺
@@ThisIsOurRetirement US has the same requirements for people returning from China/Hong Kong. When we traveled to Europe last year, we had to show our vaccination cards at German Immigration. Since we stayed over a week in German, we had to do COVID-19 test in Germany for Portugal and then again in Portugal when we returned to the US- getting more painful to travel😧
Delighted to hear you are thinking of Thailand. Our winter is their dry & sunny season so a good time to go. Chiang Mai is a fascinating old city in the North and really cheap to fly to from Bangkok. It is a walled city with a moat and surrounded by mountains. The original capital of Siam. Loads of 4 star Hotels for less than US$49 p/n. Happy New Year to both of you.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement No easy answer to distance from Canada. If you did find your way to Thailand it is a wonderland. Thailand & Portugal are my two favourites.
Great advice Tina and Norm. Someone stole my passport when I was in India attending a wedding. I like the info left in your luggage too. Happy New Year! Travel insurance is a great idea. That is for health issues I presume? Certain countries might be cheaper to eat lunch and supper out depending on available markets with cheap food prices.
Important to be practical about Safety... However I really love Helen Keller's statement on Safety: " Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing." Helen Keller-
Happy New Year! I have recently found your channel and I am really enjoying your content. I love the way you explain cybersecurity concepts in easy to understand terms. Looking forward to more great videos in 2023.
Happy travelling in the new year. Suggestions: Vietnam and Laos. China and Nepal. Tibet. All great experiences. Even for a solo traveller women in her 70’s. (Like me!). Happy new year
I've been using ExpressVPN service for years and I'll never be without it again. However, there is a downside, which is that many websites block access from known VPN servers. They want to be able to track you, so they don't like visitors using VPNs and this is why they block them. I feel very strongly about my right to protect my privacy online, so I have stopped frequenting sites that block VPN users. There is always an alternative place to get the info I am seeking.
Staying safe…possibly off topic, but prepping for foreseeable emergencies might make a good discussion. I’m thinking disruptions to electric, heating, water, access to food supply, meds, etc. The recent major winter storm that swept across the continent was an opportunity for all of us to do an audit of our household’s resilience. .
Yes Mark, we do think some planning for extended hydro outages and having canned goods is a good precaution, in Canadian winters, also having flashlights and candles. Thanks for watching.
There are risks with VPN as well. You reroute your info/traffic to a third partys exit nodes, these can be compromised regardless what vpn sales ppl tells you. Just be aware of it but dont worry to much.
Happy New New Year's Tina and Norm. Loved hearing about your travel plans. We are looking at a cross country European trip but prob not till 2024. I have a need for road trips right now so hopeful for many in 2023. We have always tried to pick overnight stays that offer free breakfast then we only need to look at dinner. Love the colour of your new top Tina. Now are you staying up to see 2023 come in 🤗

We use a vpn when away from home using public wifi or using someone else’s internet such as hotel, Airbnb rentals. At home using our own network we don’t use the vpn.
You do put out great content. It help I’m nearing retirement. Thank you.
Great to hear! Happy New Year Cheers 🥂🥳🌺
You both are looking great! Happy new year! 🎉

Sounds great! have a wonderful time 🇵🇹 Kris Happy New Year! 🥂🥳
We miss cruising as well! Hopefully in the next year or so we can get back to it.
Yes we miss cruising 🚢too , still a bit risky for us Happy New Year!! to you both Cheers 🥳🥂
Happy New Year! Here is to staying safe, healthy and wise. Retirement in 364 days, but who’s counting 😳
Happy New Year 🎉
Happy New Year!!🎉🎉
Happy new year!! Cheers Kathy 🥂🥳🌺

♡ Happy New Year! ♡
Happy New Year!! 🥂🥳
Thanks Debbie glad you enjoy our videos wishing you a very Happy New Year! Cheers 🥂🥳🌺
Another idea to easily deal with a lost passport is to bring passport pictures with your photocopies. One less item to take care of during a stressful time. You previously mentioned your research for lightweight carry on luggage you purchased. I have not seen the specific brand for that luggage. Thank you for you efforts on YT.
It’s a brand called IT luggage and they have several lightweight choices. Thanks for sharing your ideas about the photos.
Excellent tips about maintaining privacy while travelling. Happy New Year to you both. ;D
Our pleasure! Happy New Year!! Cheers 🥂🥳🌺
Desejo boas viagens a correr o mundo! 😊
Acredito, profundamente que viajar é uma forma de manter saúde mental e física saudável!
Para mim, vós sois embaixadores exemplares como se pode viver a poupar e a gozar a vida e ser alegre. 😊

@@ThisIsOurRetirement
@@ThisIsOurRetirement US has the same requirements for people returning from China/Hong Kong. When we traveled to Europe last year, we had to show our vaccination cards at German Immigration. Since we stayed over a week in German, we had to do COVID-19 test in Germany for Portugal and then again in Portugal when we returned to the US- getting more painful to travel😧
Happy New Year to both of you.
Thanks so much Happy New Year!!Vivian Cheers 🥂🥳🌺
Happy New Year Tina and Norm. I enjoy your videos!
Thanks so much Happy New Year Bertilla 🥂🥳🌺
Thanks!
Thanks so much Pat it’s very kind of you we really appreciate it have a wonderful New Year Cheers 🇺🇸🥂🥳🇨🇦
We would love to visit little wary of the long flight ✈️ but it’s on our list Happy New Year Cheers 🥳🥂🌺
Happy New Year Don!
Happy New Year! my friends
Happy New Year! Cheers 🥳🥂
Tina and Norm. Taking retirement by Storm. Rock on in coming year. 🤘
Thanks Steve!
Important to be practical about Safety... However I really love Helen Keller's statement on Safety: " Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing." Helen Keller-
Thanks for sharing Happy New Year 🥳🥂
Happy New Year! I have recently found your channel and I am really enjoying your content. I love the way you explain cybersecurity concepts in easy to understand terms. Looking forward to more great videos in 2023.
Awesome! Thank you! welcome to our channel Paula we wish you a Happy New Year Cheers 🥳🥂🌺
Happy travelling in the new year. Suggestions: Vietnam and Laos. China and Nepal. Tibet. All great experiences. Even for a solo traveller women in her 70’s. (Like me!). Happy new year
Thanks for the tips! Happy New Year!! Cheers JP 🥂🥳🌺
Happy New Year
Happy New Year Pat Cheers 🥳🥂🌺
I enjoy all your videos here on west coast Canada.
Thanks for sharing Happy New Year Cheers 🥳🥂
" And we wish you a happy New Year."
Happy New Year! Cheers Peter 🥳🥂
Great info...one thing I do is keep my last expired passport as a backup as well as colour copies of my current one. .
That's a great idea! Happy New Year!! Cheers 🥂🥳
I'd also like to visit Thailand but the 15hr flight ✈️ would be rough
Staying safe…possibly off topic, but prepping for foreseeable emergencies might make a good discussion. I’m thinking disruptions to electric, heating, water, access to food supply, meds, etc. The recent major winter storm that swept across the continent was an opportunity for all of us to do an audit of our household’s resilience.
.
Yes Mark, we do think some planning for extended hydro outages and having canned goods is a good precaution, in Canadian winters, also having flashlights and candles. Thanks for watching.
Happy new year 😊🇺🇸
Happy new year! hope it’s a good one Cinde Cheers 🇺🇸🥂🥳🇨🇦
@@ThisIsOurRetirement thank you !
There are risks with VPN as well. You reroute your info/traffic to a third partys exit nodes, these can be compromised regardless what vpn sales ppl tells you. Just be aware of it but dont worry to much.
Guess nothing is 100% LOL 😂 Happy New Year Fis Cheers 🥳🥂
Happy New Year🎉
Happy New Year Debbie!
