Awesome sir. Great flight. Got my 6A end of May after a 1200NM flight from Madrid to Copenhagen. Now I am waiting for Danish inspection, registration and permit to fly. Super cool you can go IFR on Experimental. Hope EASA will join great rule too very soon.
Thanks for the kind words Per. Glad you got your RV home, that's a looong flight! Send some pictures of her and I'll post them on TheHDPilot Facebook page.
will do... in the makings of a nice movie. 9 hours flight time - 3 countries - All VFR :) and the RV-grin is difficult to remove. Cruise GS around the 150's and max around 175 knots :) Slightly smaller than the '7' but absolutely fantastic aircraft !
9 hours... my rear end hurts just thinking of it! ;-) That's cool too that you flew through 3 countries. Is that difficult to get permission to cross borders? Yes, the 6A is virtually the same as my 7A, just that they put a bigger rudder on the 7 so that it was able to recover from spins more confidently. "The Grin"... after 6 years it's still there :-D
A flight plan is required to do the FIR/Border crossing. For France (since they do not acknowledge Spanish experimental aircraft (for god knows what reason)) I needed a special permit to fly which I got for 2 days. it was never seen by anyone so practically a waste of money - so the trip was relatively easy - actually more easy than anticipated as we got allowance to cross multiple Class B,C and D airspaces instead of going around them. We did 2 fuel (and dehydration) stops on the way - all in all it shows that small SEP's (even in the Experimental category) easily can do really long flights with relatively little effort. Also with a partly inop autopilot we got some seriously hand flying accomplished. It could only do wing-leveler although it was coupled to a Garmin GPS and even NAV frq's.
Nice flight - lots of learning opportunities and a local destination I had not heard of. I liked how the gator crept across the dash and changed orientations :) I passed my instrument checkride at TKI on Memorial Day and haven't yet flown in the system "for real". I was very surprised that TKI was able to keep your flight plan open for you after the abort (It didn't appear that you re-filed but perhaps you did). Can you clarify? Looks like a trip to Mt Pleasant is on order!
The Gator kept moving because Phil couldn't stop playing with it (moving it in front of the camera while humming 'Jaws' theme music :) Glad you enjoyed the flight Talan!
Very nice video. My wife and I flew to TKI in our RV8 from Tulsa this summer. Have to plan a trip to Mt Pleasant to see the museum. I'm hoping to start aerobatics training soon. How's your progressing?
Thanks Stuart! I've been back to KOSA a couple more times, taking others to experience it. They all *Loved* the fact they could climb into the aircraft! As for acro, i just can't get myself to try a loop without one of my mentors on board. I don't know why, i've never had any issue doing one (except for one of my first attempts where I felt like i was falling inverted at the top and yelled "Fix it Rich, Fix it! : ) Like I said in one of my videos, if I were to have started this at the "I'm Bullet Proof" age of 25 I wouldn't even give it a second thought ;-) Do you do acro in your 8?
