As a retired Avionics engineer, I really appreciate your precise explanation about B2 license and the content of the B2 course. I also agree with you Dinuwan why most the students are afraid of following B2. As a result there's a scarcity of avionics engineers and instructors in SriLanka for the time being. When I was following the Aircraft Electrical & Instrument course in 1973, I also felt it's bit boring and difficult to understand because of the huge content of the subject. Later on I picked up everything due to my perseverance. Later on I could obtain my AML for Elect/Inst/Radio(Avionics) from CAASL. As an Avionics engineer I certified four aircraft types (B737-200, L-1011 TriStar, A340-300 and A330-200) at Srilankan Airlines until I retired from the service.

EASA regulations syllabi stipulates what modules to take and at what level, and those modules gives the required knowledge in electrical, electronics and digital electronics. (Which are clearly discussed in this video on what modules are required. If you meant you need a degree level education to become a B2 maintenance staff (which this video is about), I’m sorry to say you are bit mistaken. Because students only require the necessary B2 modules (12 modules to be exact) to become a licensed aircraft engineer. If you are talking about defence or at avionics system design roles, this might be correct. But this video is about civil aviation (EASA) aircraft maintenance engineering basic course. If you are talking about the civil world, EASA (Europe) and FAA (USA) are two different bodies who follow two different way of certifying maintenance staff. I’m not familiar with FAA but don’t think you need a degree qualification to become an aircraft mechanic. Please correct if I’m wrong (www.faa.gov/mechanics/become).

Yes, you can have both B1.1 and B2 on your license but you will be only allowed one primary category at any given flight. (Eg: you are the engineer of a B737 (who is type rated for both b1.1 and b2) assigned on fuel system and on this flight you are only able to carry out mechanical tasks, in other words,you can only carryout B1.1 and very minor B2 tasks and vice versa) there is an unofficial term for these licenses “Super License”
