    Just got one. I am seriously STOKED. This could be the best sounding sampler I've ever used (and I've used a lot of samplers since getting my first Emax back in the early nineties). Even with the analog filter bypassed, it sounds brilliant. Hi fi but in a musical, pleasant way. Great machine.

    Stu G! my man! That is the best short demo ever or either this is an incredibly easy machine to pick up and I’ve watched every TH-cam clip on all the sampler/grooves boxes/sequencers. I think u should demo every machine out. Straight to the point

    it's amazing how many people don't differentiate this from the new generation MPCs that are just controllers and therefore naturally far less expensive. this replaces the computer people. it goes back to classic MPC standalone, which is what people are asking for, and vastly improves upon it, in terms of features, ease-of-use, and memory. that's the whole point of it. Akai should already have this standalone market cornered with a current machine but somebody up there holds the view that all products need to be computer-based now, when obviously there's plenty of demand for both ways of working, and Akai could have made this exact machine easily just basing it on their legacy standalone MPC technology updated with modern processing power. the only thing a bit weird about this is the DSI filter and the DJ-oriented marketing and features (I can understand why some people are asking why it's not also a mixer, while we're at it), but it apparently did emerge from Pioneer's DJ tools so why not for people who are both DJs and composers or DJs that use sampling and effects extensively. also this is a major candidate for vast software updates, the basic controls on the box with a touch screen obviously justify the price. The only thing that's not clear to me is ease of use as a sampler compared to MPCs of any generation

    • @TROGULAR10000
      @TROGULAR10000 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +krenzilla Yes, I've even used it. But I'm not comparing to the new MPCs. Comparing to the old standalone ones. This Pioneer machine here is standalone but apparently has some limitations with MIDI and layering that wouldn't work for me.

    • @ClayMcClain
      @ClayMcClain 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't forget to mention that maximum sample playback per track is only 32 seconds! Anyone looking to use this for live performance backing tracks will have look elsewhere.

    • @TROGULAR10000
      @TROGULAR10000 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok, so that's the bit I don't understand: could you have a standard multi-track tune with looping samples as long as no sample in it is longer than 32s? It's definitely a limitation anyway, but just wondering.

      mpc x is a controller? No man... The toraiz is a super sample player (like elektribe sampler) not a REAL sampler, not a workstation like the mpc.

    My breakdown thus far: definitely see the potential and convenience if you play live electronic music; even though the color gives it a fruity vibe (dope if you can customize the pad lights). In the studio the connectivity would be very useful. As a producer of sample based music, for me it would come down to how well the converter and internal dsp effects sound. The fixed master out analog filter I could do without, and that probably adds like $500 to the price.

  • @indiefilmcomposer
    @indiefilmcomposer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing no one has noticed much outside of the filters is the sound, this engine sounds very very clean powerful, good ! Have you tried this since the introduction of per step parameter locks?

  • @mainline1081
    @mainline1081 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have a few gizmos in my studio (Maschine, Push, MPC Live) and they're all cool in specific ways. This thing looks really limited for the price, but the more I play with my MPC Live the more curious I get about this box. The workflow, structure, layers of everything on the MPC Live makes it less FUN to play on stage LIVE... This box actually looks more like the Maschine workflow, albeit in a very stripped-down method. Still, perhaps it's a great tool! Can you play channels (pads) from one group (Scene) while also playing sounds (channels or pads, if you will) from another group (Scene) simultaneously? I mean, can you use the 16 groups of pads together in a larger, more complex production way?

    What people ask is a stand alone ableton live. And something affordable... It´s hard, but it is what the masses are asking for. There´s a gap for it. The MPC 5000 has an interesting VA poly synth and effects, a good sampler and midi sequencer and 4 midi outs... but is 16 bits (PRRRR, sounds good... but PRRR) and the firmware really needs update for HD recording and the way it handles sequences and live audio. Akai forgot its loyal customers. Maybe Pioneer handles it differently and fine tune Toraiz on further updates and fills the gap.

    not sure if im getting this correctly, it only has one group?? like, when the 16 pads have samples loaded in them, thats it?!
    and also.... how can you demo a sampler, without showing how to chop samples on it?

    • @aikighost
      @aikighost 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One group per pattern, any of which can be a chopped or musical loop. So if your track has classic song structure of intro, verse, chorus, middle 8, verse, chorus, outro you could use 5 patterns each using 16 different samples.

    I am one of those who refuses to navigate to a computer and have been using my ASR-10 since 1993 (and I still do) but I have been looking into alternatives and have found no new hardware that can duplicate what it can do; especially nothing with a keyboard. I really wish someone would put out a keyboard hardware sampler/workstation comparable to the ASR-10 but everything is MIDI Controller/DAW based and understandably so. As I realize I am probably dreaming to see a stand alone Keyboard based sampler (no - the Korg Electribe Sampler does not count) I am still looking into alternatives. This one looks promising. Any ASR-10 owners out there who have migrated to something newer and comparable or anyone have any suggestions?

    I have some doubts regarding Pioneer Toraiz SP16. I have been using Akai MPCs for a long time. Currently using Mpc 2500/1000/ Renaissance.
    My concerns
    1) How many samples can I use at a time within a single pattern? ( In MPC, for a pattern we can use 16 x 4=64 samples in A,B,C and D banks normally)
    2) How many samples can I layer in a single pad ( In MPC I can stack 4 samples with separate Volume, Pitch and Velocity levels)

    @dextergrad2076 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It would be great if they made one for people who are RIGHT HANDED T_T
    Even left handed percussionists tend to play right handed....
    No idea whose bright idea it was to make everyone cross their arms in order to finger drum and adjust parameters at the same time. It's absolutely charming that Akai caught on to left-handed samplers as well.

    • @Claidheambmor
      @Claidheambmor 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know you could use it with the pads in front of you and the screen to your right side. Y'know, like you're obviously supposed to. The touch screen is on your right because most people are right handed.

    • @SupaSandeep
      @SupaSandeep 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      it has external MIDI sequencing

    • @dzod
      @dzod 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 notes step isn't proper sequencing. Pretty poor for a device at this price.

    • @SupaSandeep
      @SupaSandeep 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's not meant to be a "proper" sequencer, it's supposed to be simpler for DJ's/producers doing live remix type stuff, for in dept under the hood stuff the new MPX live is a lot better... I played with this at NAMM yesterday & for what it is it's pretty good. Fits in well with the rest of the Pioneer DJ line

    • @dzod
      @dzod 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sandeep Kumar well I'm a producer and I want complex, not simple. I agree that the new mpc is a better product and I'm so glad it has come at a cheaper price point. I'm getting one.

    • @SupaSandeep
      @SupaSandeep 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      fair enuff, mind you this is aimed at DJ's who spending $2,200 on ONE CD Player, even for them this is a stretch... I got to play with it with a DJ setup & it's pretty simple & fun for that

  • @aikighost

      yeah - and does it sample at all? or is a sample playback unit, like tempest, rytm, volca sample

    • @aikighost

      Yes it definitely samples via the main inputs that has been said since the first intro videos came out. If it can sample and loop in tempo immediately then it suddenly becomes a very cool live tool.

      "Has anyone checked how the sound actually is when playing in a club? Can this machine soundwise compensate my MPC 4000 ?"
      I wouldn't put much faith in judging it that way. There's just to many outside variables that would make it extremely difficult to isolate any 1 component. It could sound like crap on one system, and great on another.

  • @agauerm
    @agauerm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very cool, but I am saving for a Jomox Alpha Base.

    • @dasoffendor
      @dasoffendor 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ive got an alpha base and im actually looking at one of these to compliment it. the AB is amazing, but sample management is a pain, and really isnt meant to be more than individual samples. there's no time stretching or beat matching, so unless you do it before you dump it into the AB what you have is what you get. the only way you can identify samples in internal memory is numerically, 1-300. Im not knocking the AB in any way, just saying its not the same kind of "sampling" drum machine/sequencer. If you work with loops at all the AB is not the most ideally suited.

    Good idea. Bad execution, looks sub-par considered what else is out there for that same price these days (standalone hardware included)

    Looks too complicated. I'll stick with my Maschine Studio. Man...these DJ companies really need a different approach. Maybe a Hololens application?

      useless? this does everything an MPC does, completely replaces a DAW, MIDI module and controller, and provides a TR808 type sequencer. it's also the only machine on the market that combines these features. not sure about useless.

      Sadly, not comparable to an MPC - only allows for a maximum 32 second sample playback per track. Can not layer samples per track. Only 16 note polyphony. Midi is ridiculously limited. Unfortunately, this is not an MPC replacement. It's something else.

      Mmm I stand corrected. That's very interesting to me because I've never used an old MPC... only DAWS with control surfaces, standalone portastudio type multitrackers, and multitrack loopers and drum machines. I need to get my head around the concepts. I know the old standalone MPCs combine all of these functions but can't imagine enjoying that interface apart from the basic sample and loop based approach. 32 secs seems like a long enough max sampling time for looping purposes. It also means you couldn't sample your own audio performance for more than 32 seconds, right? That might be ok for me as long as you can line up different samples on the same track. I think you're just saying that they can't sound simultaneously on the same track, but can they be lined up on the same track? So for me brings up the need to know what the maximum track length is, I just assumed the answer would be "plenty" for all the aforementioned. With respect to MIDI polyphony, this means you would have 16 notes in total for all 16 tracks? That does seem pretty useless. (now that you know who you're dealing with, if you have time to answer, please speak to me as if I were a dog trying to understand this).

      Wow, only 32 seconds?? Are you sure? (didn't stumble upon that info myself) :(
