Very good tutorial on animating a basic head turn. I love the original model sheet for Drake that Toby Shelton did. (and the head turn notes; although I think those head turn notes might have been by Tad Stones ?). For anyone looking , the model sheet can be found on Toby's blog 'The Animation Woodpile storyboards and sketches by Toby Shelton'.
Thank you kindly for sharing the name of Toby Shelton! Yes indeed he was a major player in 90s Disney TV the model sheets were top dollar and so well drawn they had so much potential it’s such a shame none of them were adapted for featurettes and we got unnecessary sequels to one off fairytales.
Hii I have this question can you reply? when showing the character in a scene waving the body and in another only the mouth and let the body remain motionless how does it do this?
2 months late and I'm not the channel owner but basically you can animate certain parts on different layers so for example the body would be on one layer and the mouth on a separate layer. You can animate the mouth and then you just leave the body unchanged for that amount of frames until the movement picks back up again. Hope that helps!
